Greg Gabriel on Bears/Giants and Rams Sunday
On the score this morning they had Craig Gabriel on and he was much more grumpy about the team than usual as it pertains to the Giants loss.
On to the Rams - It's now a MUST WIN game in Gabriel's eyes. Momentum is on the line. Winning culture is on the line.
Gabriel says victory against LA comes down to TWO THINGS:
1. Turnover battle. Rams don't turn over the ball a lot but they don't force a lot despite having Aaron Donald. Bears DO get turnovers and takeaways, but will Mitchell (who should be a lock to play)turn the ball over himself with the rust he now has?
2. BEAR WEATHER - Said the Rams had to come to Detroit and although it's a dome team, the trip to the chilly midwest made the Rams look less than what they look like on paper. Now the Bears put them at a considerable disadvantage because not only will it be COLD and the LA team isn't used to that, it will be COLD and AT NIGHT and probably WINDY which gives them significant challenge as far as adjustments of their style of play. Bears need to leverage the weather as much as possible, but can Nagy take advantage? This will be the test.
------------
Rams 4th in the NFL with 22 forced turnovers.
------------
Gabriel is an idiot, no doubt about it. An angry one at that...
-----------
Playing late is not a disadvantage for a team that normally plays it's home games a couple hours after we do.
----------
people predicting he will play Sunday has worked out SO WELL the last 2 weeks.
----------
I've yet to see how bad weather is any advantage to the Bears; our kicker misses kicks in windy weather and it was cold/rainy in Metlife Stadium last week and the result was 5 fumbles and two turnovers by Daniel. So once again this myth of "Bear weather" being an advantage for us has yet to materialize

Bears vs Rams. What's your greatest concern?
Witzmann vs Donald! Their D line is strongest where we aint. There won't be much pocket this week. Imagine Daniel having to start again.
------------
Greatest concern would be injury. But that wouldnt have anything to do with the Rams.
Donald will likely cause an oft lack of center pocket for whoever QBs. And their passrush in general is good.
Daniel isn't as flatfooted as people make him out to be, he just doesn't compare to Trub, and few do. Maybe Daniel would benefit a bit from rollouts too?
-----------
Anyone from the Bears against anyone from the Rams. If last Sunday taught us anything, it's that the Rams are great, and the Bears are just merely skating along.
This year, the Bears are overachieving. They have surpassed all expectations, and are setting up for a magical year 2 of the Nagy era.
They just aren't there yet to compete at such a high level. It will be brutal, and there will be much wailing and gnashing of teeth on this board, and across all social media after Sunday night.
-----------
My biggest concern?
Losing then logging into here
---------
Naggy thinking trubisky is still too exhausted to play
Fangio forgetting to coach in the 4 th quarter
-----------
Being 8-5 and having to worry about beating SF and GB
----------
Injuries
---------
My greatest concern is the Bears offense starting out slow and in a hole down 14-0 or 21-0 because the Rams offense is so dynamic and they have some really good playmakers on defense as well.
We think of this Bears offense as being great, but it’s not—It’s much-improved, but they have a long way to go and are 20th in offensive yards.
I’m not worried about the D because I think we know what they are, but we also know they give up big chunk plays and also regularly vacate the middle of the field. That won’t fly against the Rams. They’re damn good.
Because of those main issues, I think it’s very unlikely the Bears win this game. They’re just not there yet.
----------
Rams have made most look inferior, so I am not worried that the Bears will be any different.
---------
The Rams exposing our defense in a way that shows schematic deficiencies in our defense and not just a talent discrepancy that's used by future opponents to beat us.
--------
I will avoid this place for a while if they lose, although I'm #calling a win
--------
Gurley and not getting pressure on Goff. Bears need to have their best tackling game and stop Gurley upon first contact and make sure to get pressure on Goff. Can’t allow big plays and absolutely cannot have any blown coverages.
Offensively, obviously need to contain Donald and Mitch can’t leave any plays on the field. If guys are open and streak free, it’s a must that he hits them. This is really the only game I care about this season.
I’ve loved watching this team play this year and am enthused, but this is the only legit team on the schedule. Should we buy into the bears? This game will answer that. I don’t care about the record. If the bears are on the path we hope them to be, they find a way to win at home.
----------
Blocking Donald. Witzman might actually die.
----------
Fangio getting owned on national TV. Nagy getting too conservative.
---------
---------
Yeah, I don't like our offensive line against Donald in any way shape or form. If Nagy and Trubisky don't make a point of getting the ball out quick in the majority of the game plan then I don't know how well the offense will manage to keep pace.
----------
Biggest concern is getting blown out, just keep it close boys. And our O-line, both pass protection and run blocking worry me.
-----------
They're 5th in scoring however. Both the yards and scoring are due to the Defensive turnovers (and scoring to I believe). Adjust that out and O is still doing well enough to win and be in every game.
Like every team, they have their bad days, which generally require every single one of 3-10 plays to go the wrong way to = each loss.
They're not overacheiving. If anything they've yet to consistently maintain their potential. We've seen how they blow teams out when hitting on all cylinders...
for ALL FOUR QUARTERS that is.
Biggest fear = crappy prevent defense in the second half.
-----------
I expect a lot of designed rollouts this game.
---------
Last week taught me that the Rams are totally beatable. Did you watch that Rams game? That is not a SB team. Not saying we are there yet but I don't fear the Rams in the least.
---------
Other teams can't do what the Rams do. They've basically exposed every team they've faced yet those teams still win other games and don't get abused like what happened against the Rams. My original point is that our OL is already exposed and will be difficult to mask. It will be very difficult for Mitch to look great this game but he gives us hope. Hopefully Mack can level the playing field some.
----------
All the CCS posts about how the Bears suck and we should all slit our wrists because McVay is better than Nagy, Goff is better than Trubisky, and Donald is better than Mack.
---------
They just bolstered their secondary, Donald is a beast and our line in dinged up, our defense tends to crap the bed in the 2nd half and they will exploit it. If Mitch isn't firing on all cylinders (if he even plays) we will be in a hole we can't dig out of.Al
All that said, the Bears D is capable of slowing them down. The offense is capable of scoring with them.
Will come down to execution on both sides of the ball with a good game plan.
My Biggest overall concern is Todd Gurley. I think he is going to tear it open. Guy is crazy good in pass and run game.
---------
1. That we can't keep up on OFF.
2. That we can't get to Goff on DEF.
3. That the Rams DEF is too much.
So, if we can keep the score low, sack Goff, win the turnover battle (+1 or +2), and Trubisky is healthy, can play 99%, we have a chance.
-----------
This is essentially what a Bears win would have to come down to: Either (1) coming out like gangbusters and building a big lead as an anomaly and NOT taking the foot off the pedal, or (more likely)
(2) Bears scrape and claw just to keep it close, catch some breaks, get a couple of turnovers, and get ONE HUGE PLAY to change the game late (pick six, fumble return for TD, couple of missed LA field goals, maybe a red zone takeaway or two.
