Greg Gabriel on Bears/Giants and Rams Sunday

On the score this morning they had Craig Gabriel on and he was much more grumpy about the team than usual as it pertains to the Giants loss.

On to the Rams - It's now a MUST WIN game in Gabriel's eyes. Momentum is on the line. Winning culture is on the line.

Gabriel says victory against LA comes down to TWO THINGS:

1. Turnover battle. Rams don't turn over the ball a lot but they don't force a lot despite having Aaron Donald. Bears DO get turnovers and takeaways, but will Mitchell (who should be a lock to play)turn the ball over himself with the rust he now has?

2. BEAR WEATHER - Said the Rams had to come to Detroit and although it's a dome team, the trip to the chilly midwest made the Rams look less than what they look like on paper. Now the Bears put them at a considerable disadvantage because not only will it be COLD and the LA team isn't used to that, it will be COLD and AT NIGHT and probably WINDY which gives them significant challenge as far as adjustments of their style of play. Bears need to leverage the weather as much as possible, but can Nagy take advantage? This will be the test.
------------
Rams 4th in the NFL with 22 forced turnovers.
------------
Gabriel is an idiot, no doubt about it. An angry one at that...
-----------
Playing late is not a disadvantage for a team that normally plays it's home games a couple hours after we do.
----------
people predicting he will play Sunday has worked out SO WELL the last 2 weeks.
----------
I've yet to see how bad weather is any advantage to the Bears; our kicker misses kicks in windy weather and it was cold/rainy in Metlife Stadium last week and the result was 5 fumbles and two turnovers by Daniel. So once again this myth of "Bear weather" being an advantage for us has yet to materialize
------------
http://www.chicitysports.com/forum/showthread.php/100378-Bears-vs-Rams-What-s-your-greatest-concern

Bears vs Rams. What's your greatest concern?

Witzmann vs Donald! Their D line is strongest where we aint. There won't be much pocket this week. Imagine Daniel having to start again.
------------
Greatest concern would be injury. But that wouldnt have anything to do with the Rams.

Donald will likely cause an oft lack of center pocket for whoever QBs. And their passrush in general is good.

Daniel isn't as flatfooted as people make him out to be, he just doesn't compare to Trub, and few do. Maybe Daniel would benefit a bit from rollouts too?
-----------
Anyone from the Bears against anyone from the Rams. If last Sunday taught us anything, it's that the Rams are great, and the Bears are just merely skating along.

This year, the Bears are overachieving. They have surpassed all expectations, and are setting up for a magical year 2 of the Nagy era.

They just aren't there yet to compete at such a high level. It will be brutal, and there will be much wailing and gnashing of teeth on this board, and across all social media after Sunday night.
-----------
My biggest concern?

Losing then logging into here
---------
Naggy thinking trubisky is still too exhausted to play

Fangio forgetting to coach in the 4 th quarter
-----------
Being 8-5 and having to worry about beating SF and GB
----------
Injuries
---------
My greatest concern is the Bears offense starting out slow and in a hole down 14-0 or 21-0 because the Rams offense is so dynamic and they have some really good playmakers on defense as well.

We think of this Bears offense as being great, but it’s not—It’s much-improved, but they have a long way to go and are 20th in offensive yards.

I’m not worried about the D because I think we know what they are, but we also know they give up big chunk plays and also regularly vacate the middle of the field. That won’t fly against the Rams. They’re damn good.

Because of those main issues, I think it’s very unlikely the Bears win this game. They’re just not there yet.
----------
Rams have made most look inferior, so I am not worried that the Bears will be any different.
---------
The Rams exposing our defense in a way that shows schematic deficiencies in our defense and not just a talent discrepancy that's used by future opponents to beat us.
--------
I will avoid this place for a while if they lose, although I'm #calling a win
--------
Gurley and not getting pressure on Goff. Bears need to have their best tackling game and stop Gurley upon first contact and make sure to get pressure on Goff. Can’t allow big plays and absolutely cannot have any blown coverages.

Offensively, obviously need to contain Donald and Mitch can’t leave any plays on the field. If guys are open and streak free, it’s a must that he hits them. This is really the only game I care about this season.

I’ve loved watching this team play this year and am enthused, but this is the only legit team on the schedule. Should we buy into the bears? This game will answer that. I don’t care about the record. If the bears are on the path we hope them to be, they find a way to win at home.
----------
Blocking Donald. Witzman might actually die.
----------
Fangio getting owned on national TV. Nagy getting too conservative.
---------
8Cklsk.gif

---------
Yeah, I don't like our offensive line against Donald in any way shape or form. If Nagy and Trubisky don't make a point of getting the ball out quick in the majority of the game plan then I don't know how well the offense will manage to keep pace.
----------
Biggest concern is getting blown out, just keep it close boys. And our O-line, both pass protection and run blocking worry me.
-----------
They're 5th in scoring however. Both the yards and scoring are due to the Defensive turnovers (and scoring to I believe). Adjust that out and O is still doing well enough to win and be in every game.

Like every team, they have their bad days, which generally require every single one of 3-10 plays to go the wrong way to = each loss.

They're not overacheiving. If anything they've yet to consistently maintain their potential. We've seen how they blow teams out when hitting on all cylinders...for ALL FOUR QUARTERS that is.

Biggest fear = shitty prevent defense in the second half.
-----------
I expect a lot of designed rollouts this game.
---------
Last week taught me that the Rams are totally beatable. Did you watch that Rams game? That is not a SB team. Not saying we are there yet but I don't fear the Rams in the least.
---------
Other teams can't do what the Rams do. They've basically exposed every team they've faced yet those teams still win other games and don't get abused like what happened against the Rams. My original point is that our OL is already exposed and will be difficult to mask. It will be very difficult for Mitch to look great this game but he gives us hope. Hopefully Mack can level the playing field some.
----------
All the CCS posts about how the Bears suck and we should all slit our wrists because McVay is better than Nagy, Goff is better than Trubisky, and Donald is better than Mack.
---------
They just bolstered their secondary, Donald is a beast and our line in dinged up, our defense tends to shit the bed in the 2nd half and they will exploit it. If Mitch isn't firing on all cylinders (if he even plays) we will be in a hole we can't dig out of.Al

All that said, the Bears D is capable of slowing them down. The offense is capable of scoring with them.

Will come down to execution on both sides of the ball with a good game plan.

My Biggest overall concern is Todd Gurley. I think he is going to tear it open. Guy is crazy good in pass and run game.
---------
1. That we can't keep up on OFF.
2. That we can't get to Goff on DEF.
3. That the Rams DEF is too much.

So, if we can keep the score low, sack Goff, win the turnover battle (+1 or +2), and Trubisky is healthy, can play 99%, we have a chance.
-----------
This is essentially what a Bears win would have to come down to: Either (1) coming out like gangbusters and building a big lead as an anomaly and NOT taking the foot off the pedal, or (more likely)

(2) Bears scrape and claw just to keep it close, catch some breaks, get a couple of turnovers, and get ONE HUGE PLAY to change the game late (pick six, fumble return for TD, couple of missed LA field goals, maybe a red zone takeaway or two.

Yep, looks like you definitely go against the grain a bit. Would you mind sharing what it is about the Seattle team that causes them to be your most hated of all Rams' rivals?

And, has it always been this way, and, who else held that spot of ultimate hate prior to the Squawks coming into the NFL and the NFC West?

~ArkyRamsFan~

Why sure. I'd be happy to expand on this.
What is it about Seattle that makes them most hated?
Their fans (which I live amongst in the state of Washington).
Their average "fan" doesn't even know about or even love football. It's just a fun night out for them.
The constant help from referees to stay in games and win games.
The cheap shots they've been taking at Rams players (helmet to helmet on defenseless player Cooks).
Pete Carrol's face.
Pete Carrol's gum.
Pete Carrol crying to the refs for even more help than usual.
Sherman's face and antics over the years.
A Seadick fan screaming at my 13 year old boy at a Rams game in Seattle. He was verbally and physically threatening a kind and mild 13 year old boy because he was wearing a Rams jersey in their stadium.

Has it always been this way?
No. It started about 6 years ago.

Who did I hate the most before the Seadicks?
49ers
Patriots

Bears are the 2017 rams..good young team..they are still a yr away from winning a SB in my opinion but will be a true SB contender next season I think..bears go 10-6 at worst this yr..
-----------
Bears have a championship level defense. Rams never did. They're better than the 2017 Rams, and they are likely better than the 2018 Rams. We will find out
----------
Defensively they’re better.
-----------
Rams are like ronda rousey they get lucky and when they lose they cry like pussys
-----------
That Bears D is nasty and talented

As a Bears Fan, I'm not so sure about them beating either of those teams. If they were up to the challenge, they'd have to turn their defense all the way up to the highest limit. Good Luck, Da Bears, this Sunday Night!

yeah mr egg in the face ditka, you ALSO said that in the case of the seahawks, defense doesnt win championships and that peyton manning and the colts would be too much for the seahawks to handle in the superbowl even though they had not played a REAL defense all year long remember that mike?:rolllaugh:

I thought their fans would be more confident. I can easily see the Bears beating us with the weather - Jared has had two bad games this year, and one of them came in similar weather on the road against a good defense. The other one came last week. This will be a tough game for the Rams.

The weather would be a disadvantage if
a) The Rams were a dome team. Nope.
b) The Rams were a one dimensional offense that relies on the passing game. Nope.

The weather thing is a non-factor and even if its uber windy it hurts the Bears more than our guys. Goff is a better passer than anything they put on the field and our kicking game is also superior.

Why does it feel like every week we are the underdog to every team we have a better record than? That confuses me. Even when we play mediocre we win. I actually don't mind it, makes our guys work harder and not just depend on a record to make them look good. Its weird though. The more people talk shit about our team, the more confident I start to feel in them. You ever notice that every year people count the Patriots out? Like consistently, Brady has like one off game and all of a sudden they aren't good enough to win anymore. Lol yet they are always in the playoffs, and constantly in contention for a lombardi trophy.

I think its false bravado. They want to believe they are so much better than us. And all we want to do as fans is win. Week in, and week out all of this talk about luck. A million excuses for why we win, and zero excuses when we lose. I'm done with the talk, either put up or shut up. I hope McVay demolishes their defense, I hope he absolutely exposes them. This isn't a trap game, we know what's at stake. And I have a feeling we'll get it done.

Not too bad of an analysis by a Bears fan, with some exceptions.

Trubisky vs Goff Nagy vs McVay Mack vs Donald LA vs Chicago Get ready for one of the best games of the entire season.
-----------
Too me it will be eddie jackson vs mack vs donald who best defense player.
----------
We definitely can pull this off. If Trubiski plays ( and plays good) if the Defense plays CHICAGO STYLE and we give the Ball to Howard/Cohen I have the bears winning this one 27-24
-----------
Khalil mack will dominate
-----------
I think the way we win this game is using both Cohen and Howard at the same time. Keep the defense guessing who the ball is going to go to. Especially when it’s going to be cold and the Rams aren’t going to be used to that. Defense has gotta their thing as well. What do you think?
-----------
Agreed, if it’s going to be cold and windy then we especially have to get the ground game going
----------
I predict tampa bay Trubisky is going to show up and show out mark my words #BEARDOWN and I don't want the rams scoring period (touchdowns fg don't count)BEARDOWN
-----------
Im not worried about this game at all, either we win or lose..the bears will come out fighting like we,ve been doing all season long.the only thing i worry about is losing one of our best players to an injury because win or lose we,re still in the playoff picture and we need everyone healthy moving foward.go bears!!!
----------
I think we have a good chance but I think LA wins 34-21 MVP: Gurley, MVB: Cohen
-----------
I am hyped for this game. But its either gonna be a great game, or the rams are gonna blow us out. the only reason why i think the bears can win is because its at home, in december, on SNF. Its cold. Another reason is cause the lions kept up with the rams. I want the bears to win, but i dont think theyll be able to. Rams 27- bears 24. Well i hope im wrong
-----------
Cmon man. Where's your faith? Rams will not blow us out. They are gonna score points but their defense Donald aside is not stellar. This game is on Trubisky and the offense. We have to score at least 30 points. Our front 7 also has to dominate like they are capable of as well and get after Goff. There's also something called situational football. For instance, last weeks game against the Giants everyone and i do mean everyone picked the Giants.

However, we had 10 days off sort of like a bye in terms of you get out of your usual rhythm of playing games which sucks when your are winning. Do you remember what happened the last time we came off a bye? That's right. We lost a close one to the Dolphins.

Same thing happened with the Giants. We will get up for this game and show people why we are a legitimate playoff team not a Superbowl team yet but a playoff team. Also, beating the Rams doesn't mean we are better than the Rams as they have more talent than we do, its just the right situation for us coming off a poor effort.

Its the same situation the Cowboys had in beating the Saints. It doesn't mean they are better then the Saints. Any given Sunday.
------------
I honestly said the Bears would lose to the Giants but beat the Rams. Of course, I only said the Bears would lose to the Giants after hearing Mitch was out again! I am banking on him being ready to play on Sunday Night, and he will be! I think Mitch is gonna ball out and he will get us this W!!!
----------
I feel like on the goal line we need to put Akiem hicks and Kahlil mack on offense to break through and let the L.A.R. know are fridge is fu@$ing running. WITH MASS POWER AT HAND.
----------
For real, there’s nobody that can stop Akiem at the goal line
----------
Rams 31- bears 24
-----------
Honestly wouldn’t be too mad if we take a close L to the best team in the league
----------
I have to disagree here... We really need this win! Can't let the Vikings think they can catch us! I honestly believe the Bears win this one: Bears - 41 Rams - 24
----------
Bears should win. LA teams usually aren't use to cold weather like Chicago.

Nobody is “used to” cold weather. Everybody gets cold when it’s cold. Stop trying to suggest that the Bears players have an extra layer of epidermis or something.

Exactly. Now wind, rain, snow or intense heat can affect the play of a game. Plus the last time I checked they had heaters on the sidelines along with warm clothing under the uniforms and gloves for the players to wear. Bears fans are grasping for any advantage they can find but they're delusional.

Here's the forecast for Sunday in Chicago.

https://www.covers.com/Sports/NFL/Weather

Wind: 0.78 mph
Min: 27.21 °F
Max: 35.03 °F
Humidity: 67 %
P.O.P.: 3 %

Trubisky will play and lead a decent offense. They are better than the Lions offense. His injury wont affect his running ability but should affect his passing to some degree. The Bears Defense will show up ready to prove they are one of the best in the NFL. They are better than the Lions defense. So unless Goff and our LBs have a better game than the Detroit game this is one could be tough - but good teams find a way to win the tough games (as the Rams have proven all year)!
