It will not happen anytime soon but I’d love to see NFL “analysts” be accountable for their takes. And when they state their opinions or fantasies as if they are truths simply to get clicks, it should result in a tangible loss of their credibility.
It’s a wonderful thought but I fear it is fantasy.

Here’s an example.

Just read a report from Carlos Sanchez, who covers the Jaguars on FanSided. He quoted Jason McIntyre of Fox Sports who suggested the Rams could trade Aaron Donald to Jacksonville. Sanchez said such a trade was ‘not far fetched’.

I read the comments of both these NFL analysts/experts/Guys that get paid to talk NFL.

Neither thought it necessary or appropriate to even mention the salary cap implications.

If there was any professional accountability, these idiots would be called out for gross incompetence.

If there was justice, they would get called out; and then shot.

Ha... Sports JOURNALISM is going extinct very quickly. What exists in today's media for sports (and really most "news") is only what used to be labeled columns... aka an opinion given by a Sports Columnist. There used to be a known major distinction between the 2... that way you knew if what you were ingesting was triple fact checked "news" (Journalist) or someone's opinion/speculation on the "news" (Columnist). That is extremely valuable to know when you are considering what you're ingesting.

Real JOURNALISM takes real work and more time to accomplish if done correctly. Plus... it is supposed to be just the facts that are presented. Those facts are also supposed to be confirmed by at least 3 separate sources too before reporting them. That's valuable and useful... but that isn't exciting enough for today's media delivery platforms. Today it's... fuck fact checking... let's just be 1st and get clicks... who gives a fuck if any of it turns out to actually be true.

Hell... just yesterday the New York Times just canned their entire Sports reporting dept and are now just gonna outsource sports "news" for their fish wrapper. Actual sports JOURNALISM though was thrown out years ago by the vast majority of all media outlets.

This click bait clown Lombardi is just doing what is expected from his employers... get me something/anything FIRST and let us count the clicks... nobody cares if it's proven to be shit, because the next click bait was just tossed out looking for more bites.

It is a DAMN SHAME. Even more shameful really is the fact that most people don't even realize this has happened or even know that there is a difference between a Journalist and a Columnist.

when I was a kid I remember that every morning I couldn't wait to read the sports columns of Jim Murray of the Los Angeles Times, and Melvin Durslag of the defunct Herald Examiner, they were excellent sports analysts and new their stuff.
Anybody else remember back when?

The thing is, whatever the truth is around this, who cares? Even if Lombardi is dead accurate for the first time in his life, I'm sure if Snead pulled it off we'd rally around the alternative. I love Stafford, but I could argue a few reasons (even other than $$$) why moving on would have some positive impact.

Thankfully, we are giving this another go. That no-look Super Bowl pass will always be the best pass I've ever seen a QB make, given level of difficulty and what was on the line. LOMBARDI TROPHY BABY!

Mike Lombardi hasn’t ever gotten a single damn thing right about the Rams and never will.

He’s a stone liar, period.

He’s a failed GM and spouts nonsense about a bunch of teams whenever he lifts his face out of Belichick’s lap…

When I was a kid we got the Star Bulletin in Hawaii and I would always check Rams and Lakers game stats and pics. When I got into HS I found an LA Times source at Honolulu Book Store so I would catch the bus down (later drive) and grab one 2 days after the game. During my Rams interest Jim didn't always cover the Rams post game many were delegated to other writers. Bayless was actually an LA sports writer when I started liking the Rams. Can't remember names after him and before Dwyer. Jim had a very unique writing style.

I remember 2 specific Murray stories and some of the words. One was the 1976 NFC title loss. Went similar to this: "You don't fold with 4 aces. You don't bunt with the bases loaded and 2 men out. You don't step back when you get the other guy on the ropes. And you don't go for a FG from the 6 inch line to start a championship game."

The other was when he lost an eye due to a detached retina. “I lost an old friend the other day. He was blue-eyed, impish, he cried a lot with me, laughed a lot with me, saw a great many things with me. I don’t know why he left me. . . . “

Lombardi was the GM of the Browns in 2013-14. He left their roster in such great shape that, from 2015-17, they won a total of four games.

To be fair, he was only the GM in 2013 and in 2014 they won 7 games, but he still molests collies

All you have to do is look at the contract. It makes no sense to get rid of your franchise QB and leave yourself with no QB1 and a mountain of dead cap. Even in a trade, rarely does the trading team not still incur a dead cap hit. I've said it all along, that the Rams have to carry Stafford through 2024. That is when it's structured for him to retire or the Rams to otherwise move on. It's why all this speculation over Cousins is stupid IMO. He's just a year younger than Stafford. IMO the Rams want to get out of this high contract hell and move in a more sustainable direction. If they trade for a QB it would be for someone like Herbert who is young enough to warrant the length of the contract they would need to spread the cap hit.

I think they will draft a QB in the first round giving them that 5th year option. This will allow them to redshirt the new QB for a year before starting him in 2025. That would give him 4 years minimum as the Rams starter. I'm not sold on Caleb Williams as much as most people are. Have you looked at USC's offense? It's very basic and IMO Williams is basically a one maybe two read QB. I'm not convinced he reads the entire field which is a requirement in McVay's offense.

A better fit is Michael Penix who has better length at 6'3" with an NFL caliber arm with deep pass accuracy demanded in McVay's offense. Unlike Williams, Penix plays in an offense where he makes full field reads. He's also an excellent runner who must be accounted for but he's a pass first QB not a runner. The only concern is his injury history pre 2022. Last year he played injury free, and put up outstanding numbers. If he can stay healthy for a second consecutive year and again put up similar numbers he would be the better option than Williams because he's a better fit for McVay's offense. He's a high character guy, with a very good work ethic. We also know that the Rams scout the Washington program well.

They will have the assets to move up in the first round next year as well.

There is probably an alternative universe where we traded Stafford and signed Baker for 1-2 years and draft Caleb Williams #1 overall after doing terrible again this year. We definitely are in a rebuild and that route was probably discussed.

The time to trade him and everyone else was right after the Superbowl. We could have gotten two firsts for Stafford, another two for Kupp, Three firsts for Donald, and another two for McVay. Sure we would have sucked last year, but we did anyway. Imagine having 8 or 9 first round picks to rebuild with?

“Mike Penix back to throw…”

Yeah, he should probably stick with Michael.

Prior to the 2017 Season, Mike Lombardi stated the following:
"Doug Pederson might be less qualified to coach a team than anyone I’ve ever seen in my 30-plus years in the NFL.”

Pederson's Eagles went on to win the 2017 Super Bowl.
I remember that in 17' he called the McVay hire "a joke"

The off season there is hardly anything to report so stories like these come. Same in basketball with all these possible trade ideas.

The problem I have is if this was made up he should be banned by the teams and rest of the media and called out. This is not cool. We as fans read this and it means something to us and to out right lie to us he shouldn't be a journalist anymore. Because he is a journalist we take his word as real and honest reporting.

As for the notion that the Rams would trade Stafford I highly doubt this is credible for several reasons. The blaring one taking on 59m no team wants that burden and would kill most teams plans. Secondly the Rams and the league knew Stafford was returning from surgery plus years of injuries doesn't make him a prime time candidate for a future team and without Stafford here and no back up, that is credible enough to take over it would signal one hundred percent tanking.

Lastly just think about it the Rams get rid of everyone like proposed trades I see for AD, Kupp and this with Stafford even if we got the 1st pick next year what will we have to compete with?

Teams get calls on players all the time. If they don't at least listen they aren't doing their due diligence. What if a team offered two first round picks? You think about it if this is a rebuild year. Its possible because they listened, no one offered enough and word got out there was discussion. The people ran with it saying they're shopping Stafford.
