I need to be spoon-fed an explanation as to how Mcvay and Snead thought Goff was good enough for that contract. We heard all the rumors about Goff just being an extension of Mcvay/the system etc. How were they so close to him week after week and oblivious to it?
The thought process was risky, but getting ahead of the Prescott contract was a theoretically good strategy. Only counter-argument is surrounding his play the past 7 games of 2018. When we're not getting a schematic advantage, IE when McVay isnt schemeing people wide open, Goff struggles. Most of his success the past 2 years comes from playaction, when defenses are expecting the run and get "caught off guard." But in known passing situations when they are rushing the passer and Goff has to make a quick read/decision + accurate throw hes a pedestrian level QB.
If his play got better as the year progressed last year, no one would've second guessed the contract, but it faded down the stretch and has been even worse this year. But he's played in 4 playoff games now and played good in 1, shitty in 3. Atl, Dal,NE all horrible games. He played well in the NFC championship in NO however.
We took an aggressive shot and its backfiring IMO. This dude cannot carry a team and should not be the top paid QB in the NFL. We can win with him if we surround him with better pieces. But guess what!? He had a better team last year and still choked
EDIT in the SB. Still cant get over how bad he's looked after the worst game of his life(SB). Instead of responding with a comeback year for the ages he's crumbled and faded into the abyss of indifference.
