Could do that certainly.
Id probably move on from both and try to find a late round guy to develop.
All that depends too....would Mayfield resign at all to be a backup....is that a one year deal or a three year deal?

I'd still draft a later round RB & QB (5'th or 6'th), the QB would essentially become a developmental practice squad player, and the RB would compete at RB3 as a replacement for the Malcolm Brown role.
Mike Hoecht was given an opportunity to win a job at OLB, I'd like to see Perkins given a similar opportunity at RB.
As per usual, most likely money is the biggest factor for whether Mayfield sticks with the Rams, we'll just have to see what other teams are offering, although I'm not expecting many starting QB jobs to be offered for him. jmo.

Just like I recommended last week.
( damn I hate being right )
He's young enough that he could be a reclamation project like Geno Smith or Heinecke.

We'll have a real backup quarterback though I do think Wolford and Perkins did a decent job considering the offensive line.

He's young and could eventually be a replacement for Stafford.

Not sure what the market is going to be for QB looking for a starting spot, or even a spot where he could compete for the #1 with a weak or rookie starter

Teams with definite need (IMO of course)
Colts? Do they try again with outside QB or just draft one and suck it up?
Texans? Thinking they turn the keys over to new HC/QB but need a backup
Bucs? Brady wont be back one way or another. Need 1 maybe even 2 QB
Panthers? They need a QB and wont want back some of the FA that have played there already
Saints? Dalton is Dalton, and not the answer. They got to add a QB

Teams that could go with competition for the #1 spot
Jets? Could Mike White get a legit look?
Pats? Seems like they arent sold on Jones
Raiders? Do they move on from Carr?
Giants? Thinking they stick with Jones, but could they go outside?
Wash? Heinicke has been mediocre, but def not long term solution. Maybe they like @Memento 's guy Howell?
Lions? Commit to Goff? Or draft QB and go bridge QB route?
Falcons? Is Mariota the bridge QB? Is Ridder the future?
Seattle? Can they really believe in Geno?

So maybe 5 open "spots" with a bunch of QB ready to hit the market
Brady, Mayfield, Darnold, Garoppolo, Brissett, Geno Smith, Dalton, Heinicke, Mike White, Cooper Rush, Tyler Huntley
And some QB who could hit the market after a release
Goff, Mariota, Carr, Wentz

Money is money and all but it sure seems like a good year and a good spot for Mayfield to take a low base deal to sit tight and recoup his image.

Yikes, it appears that Baker ran up in someone's girlfriend or wife in here.... Hahahaha. So much vitriol....

I still see no down side at all in this acquisition. Some people find comfort in their misery I reckon...

Couple things here:

1. Just get it out of the way the outcry for the Tartt drop and how Stafford trade would of been a bust etc. I hate these bitch whiner fans that want to forget that at that point there was what 7,8,9 minutes remaining but they in their heads want to act as that was the clincher like it would end the game. Also even with the pick the defense at that point had taken over and they weren't moving the ball on us so fuck them and their lousy bitch excuse fake memory flashback narrative they want to hang their hat on. False Narrative!!!!!

2. I understand Baker can or has rubbed people the wrong way but man people are rough on the guy. Let's hope for the best I watched a bunch of his film videos wteva yesterday the dude had hopefully has some legit skill and plays with heart. I hope he comes to life he might be douche if that's even true but he gets a raw deal man. Meanwhile we have a dude thats playing that "allegedly" views woman as nothing more than hookers that should touch him wherever he wants to be touched because he likes it but he just playing nobody cares anymore all good but Baker is a terrible person. Shame on Baker.

3. Skill wise watching his rookies year and what he did in KC in the playoffs that his defense blew not Baker was and is very impressive. Some ball placement accuracy and deep throws were amazing as well as pocket awareness he moved away amazingly subtle from pressure and focused on progressions which is my biggest concern with him right now. He so focused on making that play that I believe his pocket awareness and ability to slide where the pressure isn't is not there it's all confidence and of course shit teams culture etc. But if they can help him get that back it could be huge. Just watch tape of him from college but especially rookie year and now and it's so clear he just stands there unaware mostly.

I'm intrigued by this acquisition. If Stafford retires, and McVay turns Mayfield into a QB that takes us to the playoffs, it changes the narrative around McVay. The question remains. If Goff "didn't have it" and Stafford did, what makes us think that Baker is the guy?

He doesn't have to be 'the guy' for this move to make sense at this time. He's clearly a better QB than either Wolford or Perkins and for now that is enough.

Could he become more, sure. Doesn't mean he will.

If the worst-case is that he's Stafford's back-up next year or he walks and we get a 3rd rd comp...that is a win.

Exactly.
Looking no further than the rest of 2022 season, its an opportunity to add a QB to the room with a history of success on the NFL level, instead of dealing with a "is he hurt again?" Wolford or a "cant throw the ball more than 15 yards Perkins, its a chance for the WR/RB/TE to work with a legit NFL QB for a couple weeks

The McVay Mayfield chemistry just might be really good. I'm very interested about what they can put together.

patric makes me laugh a bit.... the rams aren't built for the future.

Yeah, I would agree that this is a pretty dumb statement by someone who really isn't much of a follower of Rams football.
We were devastated by injuries, not wholesale losses of players to free agency. The Rams will have some holes like everyone else after the 2022 season, but with likely up to 10 draft picks and free agency, we'll be in good shape to improve our team with a few key acquisitions and some solid coaching. If we're healthy next year, we'll win our division. jmo.

This is an audition for next year for both parties. If he plays well, we resign him as our backup or (hopefully not) our starter next year.
That said, I don't expect him to be amazing, but he'll make a few wow plays, especially if he gets to throw it to Tutu. This guy can really huck the ball down field.
Will actually make the rest of the season worth watching at least.

QB/Coach success is measured like stock market investments. Past results do not guarantee future success...

Let's see how this works out. I think McVay will like his attitude/demeanor, it's the one thing common in Stafford and didn't click with Goff.

Dude can throw more than 10 yards downfield and is mobile. Even if he isn’t Stafford’s heir apparent, he’s better than the Wolfman, soon to be the “Wolford of Wall St”
