Well, to be honest, I haven't seen many round 2 Edge rushing prospects that are all that appealing for this next draft. Seems a thin group where we likely pick, for me at least.
I'd rather go for Chubb, but with high 2024 picks, not 2023. jmo.

The Browns got Alex Wright in round 3 from UAB in April. He’s playing very well.

Crosby was a 4th round pick I believe.

Who could we possibly trade for on a Tuesday or Wednesday, who would have an impact in the upcoming niners game? New scheme. New playbook. New surroundings. We're better off hoping Allen, Hill and VJ are full go.....and McVay has about 4 jets sweeps and 4 screen passes in the game plan.
True, some fans don't live in reality.

I'm speaking towards the more current 2023 draft class, not saying that there haven't been good Edge rushers in the 2'nd & later rounds in the past.

Running back is one of the few true plug and play positions.

How about we load up for that future HOF guard in indy? They might want to go out and draft a young gun instead of trading for these re-treads and over the hill types. They would need draft capital to move up.

Really helped...and I don't think we are getting a guy at that level.
The comments were about thinking a player could be ready by Sunday.
Zero reason an edge rusher couldn't play Sunday if picked up today or tomorrow.

Von was still coming off an injury when the Rams got him last year.

You've got to be kidding.

An edge rusher? 3rd and long? Go get the QB.

Doesn't get any simpler than that.
I know what you are saying, and I would say there is an element of that to edge rusher, but there is a lot more than just rushing the passer to the edge position itself. And that's not even including how you can affect the rest of the defense if you take the wrong route on a stunt.

With that said, I'm not going to argue it.

And there's a hell of a lot more than just line up behind the QB and take the handoff. It's impressive that CMC played even on a limited sample last week. It would be just as impressive if an EDGE is traded for today or tomorrow and plays this weekend.

Without arguing...
You're right.
I'm talking about the ability to put a pass rusher in immediately, which is the greatest need on D. Would I expect that guy to play full-time? Absolutely not.

But as a situational pass rusher? Zero issue.

Love the thought but if he became available, teams would outbid us by a mile hahahaha

I think the equivalent to what McCaffrey did would be an edge playing in more than just obvious passing situations. He lined up in several spots.

Doesn't mean a lot tbh he can line up in every spot on the field and they ran one concept/route from it for him. I'm impressed he played but they didn't ask a lot of him as should have been expected.

The Rams don't seem all in to me this year. They seem content with what they have, which is fine but they have many holes. There have been some moves they could have made that could have improved the team but they passed.
They went aggressively after Miller but were outbid by the Bills. They went aggressively after CMC but were outbid by the 69ers. They reportedly went after Brian Burns but did not have the capital to match the multiple first round picks required by Carolina. I’m positive they are not done pursuing options for Edge, RB and OBJ but they are limited by their cap and draft picks. That looks like as much or more than any other team in the NFL except maybe Buffalo. How does that translate to “not all in” this year.

Sometimes fans forget that going after someone and getting beat out is not always a bad thing. If the price gets too high, you walk away. That is just smart negotiating. If you are going to buy at any cost, that is a really bad strategy.

Twice before we have hit big windows of offensive inconsistency due to complete abandonment of the run game. Both those seasons the offense was put back on track by trading for a RB who can carry the load.

I think it is glaringly obvious that trading for a RB who can carry the load will help us greatly. Additionally I think that type of RB is very affordable.

Edge remains our biggest need but I don't see us winning any bidding wars for guys who will help us. So the quickest and most realistic way to make this team a lot better is trade for a RB.

And because our only RB not hitting free agency is Kyren Williams, we need at least two, ... so might I suggest D'Ernest Johnson for a 6'th, and use our 3'rd rounder to fill out the unit. :bullseye:

McVays number one goal this off-season was to fix the running game. But, the RB injuries in camp and then Oline injuries have put a halt to that plan.

I hope that means his answers are still there and health on the line and a good back or two can get it back on track.
