for Donald, it changes nothing unless he holds out past that date again next season

Ahhh...because he's under contract for a 5th year already. Duh.

So if he reports on time next year, that would be his "4th" year toward FA, and thus would be able to be a FA after next year..

I was wondering this as well. If reports tomorrow and plays every game this year, he earns money from his contract. Then next year he would theoretically earn money for that 5th year option - then maybe after that he's a restricted FA?? Not sure how that works.

It's a good news/bad news situation I guess - the bad news is, if he's gone this far, he's probably all in on getting a new contract. The good news is, if he clearly wants to be a Ram since he's not worried about getting to FA..
thats because if the rams play their hand right and if they cant get a long term deal done he doesn't see FA till 2020 and he would be what 30 ? no one is giving 20mill a year to a 30 year old DT/DE

Sean McVay: "Welcome back, Mr. MoneyBags! Since you have a new record breaking deal for Dts, we insist on getting all! of our money's worth from you. Therefore, you will play DE on defense, you will be taking Jamon Brown's spot at RG on offense, and you will be blocking on special teams as well.. How do you like them apples, Mr. Future Hall of Famer!?!"

EDIT: I just want to see the whole thing resolved with Aaron "The Beast!" back wreaking havoc for the SonOfBum!

Come on, AD. Follow Bell's example.

Le’Veon Bell arrives at Steelers HQ

Le'Veon Bell is back.

After the Steelers’ franchise running back spent all offseason away from the team, Bell reported to work today. NFL Network reported that he has shown up at the team’s facility.

Reporting today was the plan all along, as Bell knew that he had to arrive before the Steelers’ 53-man roster cuts tomorrow in order to get his full $12.1 million franchise player salary.

Although Bell wanted $17 million, he’ll play this year for $12.1 million, and next year he’ll either get franchised again, which would come with a guaranteed salary of $14.5 million, or he’ll hit unrestricted free agency.

So Bell is ready to get paid, and, the Steelers hope, ready to play.

I wonder how some player cuts will change , who The Rams keep vs salary ?

Cory Harkey might get cut , because of cap for signing Aaron Donald ? Mike Purcel ?? I think he signs Saturday or Sunday ?

Yup. I get the feeling it won't end today, but hopefully good progress will be made.

Don't expect to see Donald week 1.
If I'm Donald, and I know Tolzien is my week 1 opponent, I'm BEGGING my agent to get this wrapped up.

Don't think they would fly to Atlanta if a deal wasn't close to being done.

Just hope it's not a deal that limits us in 3-4 years.

The idea is to just accept fate and move on, and the Football gods seeing that we Rams fans are comfortable will bring him back so they can crush our hopes and dreams another way.

I will do nothing of the kind, good sir. And the Football gods can go screw themselves!! That's right, I said it. YOU HEAR ME UP THERE STUPID, STUPID, FOOTBALL GODS? And I use the deity term lightly. If there really were any football gods, tom brady and belichick would be washed up cheaters doing gay beastiality porn instead of running out of fingers to put rings on.

Like you, I hope this deal doesn't limit us either. But with the way things are heading moneywise, Donald is probably going to end up being The highest paid defensive player. Unfortunately, it is that the Rams expense due to the increase of salary over the past few seasons. Keep in mind, these contracts are only going to get more expensive over time.
