It's ridiculous not to mention the up-and-down nature of the offensive line over the last few years.
It's not a coincidence that when the offensive line was really good that Goff was really good.

Not to mention the problems that Gurley was having and inconsistency in the running back room overall.

I do think Stafford is a overall upgrade and you should always upgrade when you have a chance.

Also, Goff might not ever reprieve himself because Detroit is Detroit., blaming all the problems on Goff is simplistic and lazy.

Yea click bait video with generalizations to sell a product.

The real situation has many more key details that he failed to mention.

1. Mcvay failed to address the Oline for two years.
2. Mcvay failed to evolve his offense and became too predictable.
3. Mcvay was too slow to adjust in key games such as the Miami game (his own words).
4. Goff wasn't a Mobile/experienced QB that could overcome #1-3 above.
5. Goff failed to take care of the ball under the pressure of #1-3 above.
6. Goff broke his thumb and Mcvay wanted to see if a mobile backup could overcome #1-3 above.
7. Goff felt betrayed. Argument ensued. Goff pointed Mcvay to #1-3 above (my opinion).
8. Mcvay's Ego was hurt.
9. Trade happened.
10. We will soon find out if #1-3 are still a problem and if Stafford can overcome them.

I don’t know how a cap strapped team can address the Oline. How many teams have no weaknesses? How many teams have a perfect roster. That’s the thing with the NFL. They can’t just recruit the best players. The best QBs overcome things like a poor pass blocking Center and also defenses changing their formation at the last second. This is the NCAA

I don't agree with this overall.

1. From my viewpoint, Goff has never been a top 10 QB talent in the NFL. He's a top 11 to 15. (& I'm one of his biggest fans)

2. He's shown he can be a top 10 if everything around him is working but you can say that about 75% of NFL quarterbacks.

3. Many of Goff's flaws were well hidden by McVay.

4. McVay deserves some blame but Goff was exposed by defensive coordinators in the back half of 2018.

5. Goff has had too many pars and not enough birdies in his last 40 games.

6. Goff has been a turnover machine. Goff’s 62 turnovers since 2017 (and he's added to more since this stat line was released) are the second most behind only Jameis Winston, who is no longer a starting quarterback, and is even the third quarterback choice on the Saints for those turnover reasons.

7. I wish him well in Detroit but he was never a top 10 QB as a Ram. In some years his stats may have been top 10 but that was because of McVay and the talent around him.

8. Stafford is a upgrade on paper and he gets his chance to prove why the Rams traded for him very soon.

9. Thank you McVay for trading Goff and acquiring Matthew Stafford.

2. and 3. Are due to Goff’s limitations. McVays offense couldn’t evolve with Goff. The guy in the video explained it well enough.

Good post.

Somewhere between this and "Jerad Goof blows!" must be some middle ground where I stand..

Can a person think McVay is a great coach and yet also capable of making mistakes and being a dick, like any other human? Or does the winning mean he's infallible and in a few years we'll be blaming Stafford for not being good enough to win big games?

Solid vid. Accurate in defining Jared's weaknesses, his lack of growth in his processing and reads, and how badly he was exposed vs Miami.

But I no longer give a fuck about Jared. He is Detroit's problem now.

Absolutely. Mahomes proved that last year, right? Roethlisberger, Brees, Rodgers, etc look good no matter what the condition of their OL.
time to move on, this is history

train
Absolutely. It's Stafford time. But do we have to hate Goff and his 4 years under McVay to love Stafford?
Lotsa great games over those 4 years. Lotsa exciting football. Lotsa winning football. By most accounts we should be even better going forward. Let's hope that is a reality. Can't wait to enjoy going further than we have the last 4 years.

The REAL reason we traded Jared Goff for Matthew Stafford is because our FO feels he gives us a better chance to win it all. That’s common sense and not even controversial in the slightest.

The title is clickbait because it implies that the video will reveal some secret reason.
