Sorry Les. Most of Spanos “money” is the value of his team unless something changed recently.

His slum lord daddy made most of his money off sweetheart deals from the govt. Sonny boy was trying to emulate his dad in his dealings with San Diego.

He has a net worth of about 2.5BIL, which is apart from the team. Not related.

And that has nothing to do with the deal with the NFL regarding his lease and the time to pay the relocation fee.

I'm not sure why you are not seeing that.

He pays ONE DOLLAR a year regardless of his wealth.

He has the same amount of time to pay the relocation fee as the Rams. I think that's 20 years.

This is peanuts in the big picture. So KCLARAMFAN simply doesn't know what he is talking about, there is NO big "major dough" he has to pay. It's next to nothing.

This is not a big secret. All of this was public info during the process.

Care to show that? He was worth a few mill above the team value only a couple years ago.

Sure he’s getting a sweetheart deal and his team is now valued higher but there are far more $s to the move than a relocation fee and his rent.

Fact is that he was going to be leveraged to the hilt and your buddies at Goldman Sachs we’re going to bank roll him and lil Al for the stadium in Carson. If he didn’t already own the team, he’d be in the millionaires club.

BTW - when I looked it up, an article from this year pegged Dean Spanos and wife’s net worth at $130 million. I’m assuming that is not with the value added of the team.

His father at last report was worth $2.4 billion and the team was $1.9 billion of that value. Dean himself is worth about $150 million last I saw for just him. Those numbers are according to Forbes.

The same thing will happen in LV with the Raiders.

And probably again for LA as well, look at the Rams games now, the stands are filled with opposing fans. Fans of opposing teams will pay a premium to go see their team in those two markets, especially if they live in a cold weather city.

My different opinion is simple.
You have no idea how the Raiders are going to do in Vegas. None. Zero. Zip. Nada. You are however, entitled to your opinion. As am I in disagreeing.

And the Coliseum is NOT filled with opposition fans - of course there are some, always have been - it’s LA after all.

But simply said, you’re wrong, and as usual, have nothing to back up what is basically conjecture and opinion.

But I need to explain a different opinion rating?

Pretty funny Les.

Seriously? That venue is loaded with fans from other markets. The recent Vikings game and there are others too.

Let's revisit the LV thing after a year or two and the market is swarmed with other fans.

I'm in FL. It's a somewhat similar situation.

Thx for posting that OS. The real "battle for LA" is between the Rams and Raiders and from recent TV logs, Rams are winning.

And I would never venture an opinion because other than a night in Orlando, on my way to a week in the Bahamas, I know NOTHING about Florida.
(Other than I would never, ever live there as I cannot abide humidity).

They had several really good deals, but Spanos wanted SD to hand him for way below market, waterfront property worth hundreds of millions as well as mostly pay for a multi-billion dollar stadium that he’d own.

His demands were absurd.

Now, without that former fan base, SD is homeless. They won’t win enough to win enough LA fans, the team is DEAD in the SD market (unless the team is sold to a new owner) and they have never been a national team that would draw significant fan interest from around the country.

I think it will take a year in the new building before the NFL forces a sale or move abroad.

The NFL has already had to work with broadcast partners to stop showing crowd shots unless the place is packed. This saga won’t end well in LA for the Chargers.

Actually Spanos proposed a multi billion dollar waterfront entertainment complex.

Edit: SD via a commission proposed a $1.1B downtown stadium adjacent to the waterfront. My dad lives in SD and we talked about it a lot. Also, the SD Union-Tribune has covered this extensively.

http://www.latimes.com/sports/sportsnow/la-sp-sn-san-diego-nfl-stadium-plan-20150518-story.html

What Spanos didn’t realize is that market value isn’t solely a function of real estate. The Pats and Cowboys are so valuable because they won and built national fan bases. The Rams are so valuable because they are winning and they will play in the best stadium in the NFL shortly.

With so many fans bailing on the Chargers and no stadium, I bet when it comes time to sell, they don’t get nearly what they think the Chargers are worth.

After adding the value of the Chargers he is worth $110 million, lol.

I see some claims about the Raiders fans not supporting the team if they start losing. This implies, somehow, that Rams fans will support the team if they start losing. I'm not sure that's the case.

I've got season tix. Nice ones, by that craptastic stadium's standards. I, personally, am not setting foot to a live game until Stanland is opened, so I'm just reselling the current seats. So far this year I made money on the Raiders preseason game (indicating people are willing to pay a premium to see them), I basically couldn't GIVE the Texans tickets away ($10 for 8 rows off the field, and nobody bought),Got about 40% back on the Cards game, basically broke even on the Chargers game (think after fees I finished 10% down), made a little bit on the Vikings game. The upcoming Seahawks game and the Eagles game are both pre-sold, I'll make about 120% on the Seahawks and the Eagles actually sold at 200%, the Packers I'm optimistic on but they're still sitting. I'm gonna take a bath on the Niners game I'm sure. The best team in the league, some of the best seats in the house at a low price compared to standard NFL ticket prices, and not a lot of desire for the seats. Last year for the playoffs, didn't even get face value for the seats.

I'm not sure how much of this is people who are of like mind of me in that they're unwilling to even go to that hellhole, but a part of it has to just be that fan support is always going to be a little iffy in the best of situations, let alone if the team goes back to how it was during the 10 years prior to them moving back here.

All of which is a roundabout way of saying the Chargers have absolutely no hope here, but I think it might be make-believe to think that we're going to get a large foundation of fan support, either. The only reason I went forward with the season tickets in Stanland is because I figure I'll go to at least 5 games a year, not because I actually have any faith in people even picking up the $325 or $375 a game tab for the seats (can't remember what the cost is), even though they're probably amongst the 100 best seats in the house. I anticipate it being largely a sunk cost.

couldn't give a lesser crap about attendance. LA is a transplant city, always going to have opposing fans. This will never be like Green Bay or Philly, tho who the hell moves to those cities?

Will add, the coliseum is beyond horrific. Gut a sunburn in the Arizona game, parking is a joke (a big deal in LA) and literally half the stadium was under construction.
