I think his strength is his leadership, which is more important in that HC role. He'll probably be a better HC his second time around than he ever has been as a DC. Also he's coached on the offensive side of the ball, which most of these hot coordinators cannot say.

For myself if he doesn't get a gig this year I'm gonna be irritated. Because as iffy as our defense is we're in the playoffs because he has gotten the job done in ten of our games.
Wow you beat me too it by minutes. Your post almost exactly like mine (just before me though).

But marginally the defense is worse this year. More big plays. worse on 3rd and 10 and more ... but I said yo and a lot of others approve of the 2023 iteration of Morris.
Which makes all this hate Morris gets all the funnier. He's hated because of soft coverage and gives up too many 3rd and longs but he's better this year. Except at the things they hate about him :D It's been comical for a few years now but it's even more entertaining now.

the issue is when you say "iffy" defense.

We all know the truth of this roster and the magic job Raheem has done making it competent.

But to the outside organizations trying to make that splash hire or trying to energize the fan base.

Ist tough to make people see the light.
Yeah one way to get the HC gig is to put up a statistically dominating or top defense. You're not wrong but all it takes is one owner to give him that shot. Raheem talks a great game so I'd imagine he interviews extremely well. If his projected staff is up to snuff I'd say he has a good chance this year.

You guys both make some good points, but I think it is time to give it a rest. We will see tonight who wins this debate.
Sam Bradford Marc Bulger and many others laugh at thinking this will ever go away.

Most of the posters who fit what you're talking about tend to appear only in GDTs. Outside of that I don't think there's all that much irrational hate of Morris. There's a few certainly. But I think the other boards are far worse in that regard.

Even people who just "dislike" him. There's so many with just an irrational vitriol towards him (hate is just the trendy word) and they keep coming up with new reasons or excuses for it, moving goal posts if you will, and ignoring stats. Unless of course those stats somehow in their view support them not liking Morris. It's simply comical though and you know very well its' true what I said above. They don't like him because of the soft coverages and giving up 3rd and longs, something every DC will have happen, but this year he's been good. And yet this year he's worse at what they dislike. There's no rational thought about it, they think they know better than him, McVay, Fangio Wade Phillips etc etc etc

You say you don't like the depth of the CBs. But it is required in the Fangio scheme for good or for bad. The depth can vary and Rams did play deeper than most but it's not like it was a huge difference.
I have never seen Fangio's scheme give up only 2.3 seconds on a release. I believe that was an all time fastest ever.

As I said it was .5 seconds faster than the next fastest last year (at least for the first 7 or so games where that number was posted).

So Morris must have been using a version of the Fangio scheme where the QB is able to release the ball within 2.3 seconds.

I didn't like that version in 2022.

This year's version is much better with more inexperienced players no less. I don't know what the average time per throw is this year but I believe it is closer to the league average of 2.8 to 3.0 seconds.

You can say all you want that this year's defense is marginally worst than last years but I believe we allowed teams to consistently move down the field on more long time consuming drives last year as compared to this year.

I will have to take the average number of plays and time per drive in the first 3 quarters compared to the first 3 quarters this year to verify if that was the case. Last year, a lot of games were over by the 4th quarter and would mess up the results if I included last year's 4th quarters.

Oh I want to reiterate that I never wanted Morris fired in 2021. We won a damn superbowl for gawd sake. I will admit I did overreact in 2022 because the Tampa Arizona and New Orleans games really ticked me off.

We had no business losing to a 2 win Arizona team and New Orleans wasn't much better offensively. And Tampa - we allowed them back in the game in the 4th quarter after dominating on defense the first 3 quarters. That team with experienced players should not have allowed that to happen.

I will say after having seen it happen 3 times this year, I have just gotten used to the fact that Morris defense this year is going to let some teams back in the game after having a big lead. Not sure why it happened so much this year but I am going to put it down to inexperience on the defensive side. Although it still makes my heart race during those games (I exaggerated the heart attacks - sue me).

Happens every Sunday with all teams and all schemes, Fangio included. It has happened in the Cowboys-Packers game right in front of me.

But no, not going to get distracted, no more avoiding the facts I gave you. How about a response about your 3 and outs ... and then the facts showing it was wrong?

To communicate you must not just talk. You must respond. I have taken every challenge, every caveat, every condition you have wanted.

It's time to put up ... why are most of the things so said so off base? 3rd down (2 or three versions), Buffalo D, the scheme, this, 3 and outs being the same, not better this year?

You can respond to what my responses are if you want to. Now, you're trying to make another charge without settling the previous accusations.

Come on. It's time to consider, at least CONSIDER, that you have been wrong all along.

I do not have time to go into 3 and outs at this time or Buffalo's 3rd and 10 results.

And no the 2.3 seconds release is the fastest ever over a period of 7 to 9 games. I have never seen that done before or since.

Maybe 1 game but never over a period of 7/9 games.

And I was just responding to why I didn't like Morris scheme last year.

This year I only have the problem of consistently seeing at least a 50% conversion rate on 3rd and 10 or longer on over half the games.

And I stated I would like Morris to be less conservative on those downs - sue me.

We got off track on the other discussions. You are passive aggressive in your statements and somewhat belittling and I got annoyed and felt I needed to respond. You can say I keep moving the whatever that statement is. No - you did and I got annoyed and responded improperly. I have always had troubles expressing my thoughts properly. So you are right that I am wrong because I wasn't expressing exactly what I wanted to say.

Well now you know - my entire basis for all these conversations was the 3rd and 10 or longer before the red zone.

I am done with this conversation.

And that’s what’s known as being reactionary.

It’s the difference between Kroenke & Tepper.

Maybe you’ll figure it out.

Then maybe wait until you do the BEFORE you make the definitive statement? Only evidence you've offered for 2-3 days is how you feel -- that you think you saw this, you think you saw that, you "got pissed", your are "frustrated" and so on.

I researched for you and you're simply off base. And you are welcome to double-check the work - it is available for anyone. I posted it with the search parameters that you dictated.

I know you have your opinion. You are welcome to it. But it's just an opinion.

Your opinion is not backed by stats and when you get the data you ask for you refuse to answer it with a "well, gee, maybe I have been wrong." But what you do over and over is moving the goalposts. That is not right. You have to bring more to a conversation than "I feel they did this" and try to not take responsibility for your errant statements. It's no big deal to be wrong. it's a big deal to avoid facing it by not answering and trying to change the subject again and again?

Am I being unreasonable? Have I not complied with your every request? Have you shown me to be wrong in anything?

Be fair.

Or maybe you've been hurt by Morris so badly you will never forgive him and how he calls defenses.

I don't care about the other items.

I only care about the 2.3 seconds and the 3rd and 10 or longer.

I have served up my stats on the 3rd and 10 and that should be enough to see why I was annoyed.

As to the 2.3 seconds - that was posted by someone last year but I can't remember who.

Maybe I was wrong on the other stuff. But I don't really care because it still boils down to the 3rd and 10 or longer before the red zone that annoyed me. And I expressed the opinion that I think Morris should be more aggressive on those downs.

That's it.

You unfortunately made me go off track and that is my fault. Never again.

Then why did you want them? You said you were frustrated about all the things I presented to you.

I only care about the 2.3 seconds and the 3rd and 10 or longer.
You didn't bring that 2.3 seconds until the very last couple of posts. The 3rd and longer you were wrong, 2023 is not MUCH better than 2022. It's the same.

I have served up my stats on the 3rd and 10 and that should be enough to see why I was annoyed.
And they were only for 2023. Not 2022. They were incomplete and out of context. You contended that 2023 was "MUCH MORE" effective. When the full picture was shown you never responded directly. You changed the subject.

The fact is 3rd an 10 or longer is easily looked up.

I don't think you will ever accept the facts. I think, perhaps, you value your feelings more than the facts. You painted yourself into a corner by saying things that were not accurate and it kind of blew up in your face, didn't it?

I am sorry that happened. You are clearly more emotionally involved with this than I am. I cannot do anything more. Once the next thing is proven wrong you will add a caveat, and another limitation until you find a single answer that helps your argument.

Unless you address the things you wanted that proved you wrong in your charges, I don't think I want to prove other claims you make false.

You may want to consider, or just think about, the POSSIBILITY that you could be wrong.

Read the follow up to that. Hate is just the trendy word but your vitriol towards Morris is on display for everybody to see and has been for years. You cannot deny that or spin that any other way. As I said the best part about it is people thinking this year he's doing something different and he's not. It's the same defense and as has been pointed out to you several times by a better guy than me it's a facade. You think he's better at the thing you dislike the most and he's not. But your vitriol towards him will never let you understand that. I'm at the point I hope he's DC for life or McVay retires after we win it this year and Morris succeeds him.

You are completely ignoring my last few posts.

I do not care about the 3rd and 10 being worst or better than 2022.

I only care that it occurs more often than I like in 2023. That's it. And I have proven that statement.

I got suckered into responding to your posts and I shouldn't have.

My bad.

Stop trying to make this more than what it should be.

Really? Vitriol?

Maybe I overreacted on a couple posts but I have never said as bad about him as I have about Blythe and Reeder.

And I haven't said much bad about him this year other than I said it is better for the Rams to have 3rd and 5 or less than 3rd and 10 or longer. And that was mostly tongue in cheek other than I admit that I am annoyed that the other succeeds frequently on 3rd and 10 as shown on my post.

Edit - i think you must be mistaking me for another poster.

I only complained a little during 2021 until we got Von Miller and I complained a lot in 2022 especially about the 2.3 seconds thing until the season was basically over when we were 3 and 6

This year I haven't really complained other than the 3rd and 10 situations which I am annoyed with but don't hate because he has been doing a helluva job with very inexperienced players.
