The regular season just ended on Sunday but Raheem Morris is already drawing head coaching interest. According to Adam Schefter, the Washington Commodes have requested to interview Morris for their head coaching vacancy.
They fired Ron Rivera as their head coach on Monday, ending his four-year tenure in Washington.
Morris has been the Rams’ defensive coordinator for the last three years, helping lead them to a Super Bowl win following the 2021 season. He was a finalist for the Colts’ head coaching job last year and received a second interview with Indianapolis, but the Colts went with Shane Steichen instead. The Broncos also interviewed Morris a year ago before hiring Asshole Face.
Morris has head coaching experience, holding that title for three years in Tampa Bay from 2009-2011. He was also the Falcons’ interim head coach in 2020 before the Rams hired him in 2021.

Morris also spent three years in Washington as the secondary coach from 2012-2014 where he was on the same staff as Sean McVay, Mike McDaniel and Kyle Shanahan.

If he is hired, we get a 3rd round comp selection, if I’m not mistaken (this year or 2025?).

I get annoyed at his soft defenses but, Good luck Raheem, you deserve another chance at head coach!

Raheem did the unthinkable with a no name group + Aaron Donald. He gets unnecessary hate on this board but what a job he’s done. All of these rookies are coached well and it shows week in and week out.

He deserves one of the HC gigs. Does this mean the return of Brandon Staley?

Well...let's not forget teams do this to check the "interview a minority box". I hope they're really serious. Fans only concern is "CAN HE DO THE JOB!!!

The Raheem hate in past seasons is for legitimate reasons, but I will say if you know anything about football he has altered his scheme this year and it has worked a lot better.

If you haven’t realized that don’t talk about Raheem Morris’ defense.

Ditto.

I've been one of his harshest critics on this board, but not for his job this year. This defense, while it certainly has its issues still, has far outperformed anything we could have reasonably expected before the season started. With a lesser group of DBs, he's employed more press coverage than in previous season, and it has at times paid some pretty good dividends.

Credit where credit is due. This has been his best full season with the Rams, and it's been the one where he had the least to work with (although I do want to acknowledge the great effort in the 2021 postseason).

Congrats to him and deserved, but I'd rather see him in Atlanta.

Commodes finally have new ownership. Might be a great landing spot for Rah. Btw, why are Asshole Face and the Commodes the only names that get converted to a derogatory here? I can think of a few more fitting.

I will say that I did at times get annoyed with the defenses that Raheem Morris played in the past. However, the job that he's done with this defense and all of the no name players besides AD shows that he definitely earned the interviews that he will get for head coaching positions. It's a good thing for us because we'll get the draft compensation and hopefully he will be replaced with a defensive coordinator that continues to develop our young players properly.

I don't know if Morris is truly Batman... or just and awesome Robin.

People may forget.. he did not have extensive D coordinator experience.. in fact, he didn't even have one full season at the position in the NFL.. he became interim HC during that season.

He came to the Rams.. adapted to a scheme he had no background with and evolved.. having it absolutely kicking ass in the playoffs.

The job he's done this year.. I can't explain. Sorry.. but the quality of play from the secondary exceeds the individuals significantly, imo.

Add to all that.. he's widely seen as a powerful balancing force and voice for McVay. Good friends.. but one unafraid to be honest with Sean.

All that being said... does that mean he's in his best fit right now?

I don't know! But he's certainly earned another head coaching job.. and is just a classy and charismatic individual. We'll see what happens.

Well.
I mean, he IS the master of the bend but don't break defense.

He keeps us in 90% of the games and gives us a chance to win in the fourth quarter.

There's not much more that you can ask for than that. :)

Rah has such an impact on this team that the tangential affect of his possible loss will be tough to measure and maybe even tougher to overcome. He has grown as a DC before our eyes and in my opinion is a top 5 DC as it stands.

He would be missed and I can only hope he is replaced by someone capable of continuing the growth of our young D. If he does get hired I hope it is sooner rather than later so we get the next one signed and allow him to put his stamp on the draft an free agency player acquisitions.

Nope. Hate was never justified - especially the personal stuff. Rams defense was top 5 DVOA in 2021 and DVOA was in top 10 (6th, I think) until Donald got hurt and then after game 11 the defense did perform badly and ended at 18th---it's 22nd or so this year. People just hated the way it looked. It looked soft, etc.

There were reasons for the 2022 defense and it related to the offense ... Jourdan explained it but it was hard to accept by the haters.

However, the scheme was not altered from last year, it's still a very recognizable Fangio defense. But there is more Cover-1 this year,

But from PFF it was about 11-ish% in 2020 under Staley, 9-ish% in 2021, 8.1% in 2022 and 13% in 2023.

A bigger change is from Cover-3 to more Cover-4 and Cover 6/8 but that's right in line with what Fangio is doing with Miami. Almsot exactly.

The cover-1 makes us all feel better and it has its positives but for the first time in three years Rams gave up explosive plays, quick strikes. Rams were among the very best at not allowing explosive plays before, now they are not a top 2-3 team in that. I posted those numbers somewhere along the line.

The difference between 8% to 13% is not huge, though, it's not nothing either. The major "alteration" if you will is from Cov-3 to more Cov 4/6-8 which is about 35% to 36% ... and both are so-called soft zones.

I will say what I reject is the notion that 2021 was "bad Moris" and 2021 playoffs was "good Morris" and 2022 was back to "bad Morris" and 2023 is a return to "good Morris". That's an absurdity.

The extreme haters (not saying you, the cat-4 I called them) would question Morris's smarts and thought he was a coward. They called him stupid and retarded and a "fraidy cat". Some tried to get specific with their accusations.

It came down to Staley's defense was great in 2020 and it has not been as good since. That's just a fact. And people got all mad and looked for a scapegoat. No matter how much information was out there they'd just say things that they thought was happening when it wasn't.

So, the criticism of Morris's defense not being as good as Staley's one year is legit. It wasn't. But the X factor is Staley was not any guarantee he'd have been better in 2021-2023 given how his defenses performed with Chargers.

But what was totally unfair and indefensible is the personal hate for Morris and the notion that he was stupid, retarded and lacked stones couple with the ignorance of what was being done and why.

That part is shameful. the jihad against him.

And the funny thing is there are people who say he didn't deserve the hold the trophy.

My take is the defense was never so bad he deserved to be fired and the defense is not all that great this year. It's more likable because the depth of the CBs is not as deep as it was. The defense is actually the same - performance-wise. It's better than the last 5-6 weeks of 2022 but nowhere near as good as the first 11-12 weeks of 2022.

It would be nice to get a new coach before they all get snagged.
