Maybe they can work out something with Talib next season? A cheap much friendlier contract? I know he loves playing for Wade and he could be a good influence for Long for a year or two

Wasn't playing well. Has missed huge amounts of time. Good luck to him but the Rams won't miss him IMO.

I'm not a cap expert - but could the contract not be structured to where the real cap hits are in future seasons? Not everything contract needs to have a huge signing bonus that is immediately payable. You can guarantee the money in a lot of different ways. Heck - they could extend his current contract - right?
Yes, its called a contract extension. The Rams can sign him to a contract extension starting next year or the year after that.

I liked Talib and thought he was great for this team when healthy. It feels strange to me that are flushing players we were so hopeful for this year, last year.
Yes, I feel the same way. Like we are cutting our losses from what has turned out to be bad contracts, unfavorable signings.

They are just creating more room for next year. They can roll over unused cap space into next yrs cap.

A move like this could mean they can now afford to keep Littleton.

Its that simple.

Give them credit. By moving Peters and Talib, they created $9M in cap room for 2020. Cap space that would have been lost without these moves.

correct, but we already did that with Goff and a couple of other players. Can't do that with them all. Mostly likely we'll do that with Ramsey neeeeeeeeeext year. Whether they are free up space for next year or a player now, I assume we'll find out shortly.

I agree. I suspect it will be similar to the Goff/Gurley extensions where we let them play out their 5'th year options at the current rate and Ramsey's extension will go into effect in 2021, then he will be eligible to receive a large bonus & guarantee sometime in 2020.
I'll be surprised if Snead is done for the day. jmo.

Vinny also said they told him they're done with trades. (Told to poster on another forum who has social relationship with Vinny and has reported accurate info before).

(Though Vinny also said he's not sure he believes them).

So you've got Vinny and Lindsey saying no more moves.

Seems like Akham's Razor here: they were freeing up cap space to roll over till next year, most likely for Ramsey's contract at a later date.

Edit: One thing I don't like about Vinny's comments and reporting is he hedges his bets an AWFUL lot just like above.

Sounds like a good deal for Miami. They dont even have to play Talib if they want to continue the tank. I don't get why we think its worth giving up a 5th rounder for salary for next season though if we let Talib walk at the end of the year anyway?

I'm thinking Talib's value diminished a little with the Rams after the Peters trade. I think he played a key role in babysitting Marcus. Being injured pretty much made him highly expendable and saving $4m+ of cap just made sense no matter the strategy for the cap money. Good luck to Talib. A 7th rounder from Miami is probably the highest we could expect in return. Hey, the 1st pick in the 7th isn't too far from the 32nd in the 5th! ;)
