Wishful thinking on Pollard. He carried the load for them when Elliot was injured and looked very good. He also looks good relieving Elliott in rotation. Dallas would be creating a weakness if they trade Pollard.
Right?
The trade concept to me is a bit baffling. The only guys getting traded right now are either going to be cut anyway, cap savers or getting back significant value for a player who is a surplus
Pollard is surely none of those things.

I would have no problem with one of the aging vets on a one year deal that is affordable. He's not going to be a bell cow in this offense. Just a reliable number two guy who has experience in pass protection and can run the ball well enough to make play action work. Someone like Adrian Peterson still has something to offer.

Gurley isn't gonna be an explosive runner any more. But again, he has value on passing downs. Bell would too but he might be more of a problem than a solution. Duke Johnson doesn't have the pedigree of the guys I mentioned but he's been pretty good as a receiving back. And he's only 28.

Again, we don't need a guy who carries the ball 15-20 times a game. Just someone who can back up Henderson and play well in the passing game.

I’d be happy with Gore at this point. I know he can pass block and get some tough yards still. Nothing flashy, just steady.

I think that's what we need. Not necessarily a guy to head up the room but another good option to get us through with the by-committee approach. Should be cheap and then a lot less reason to worry.

I would fine with Gore too. Vet who can be an example for the young backs. Wouldn't be pricey. Not a known dickhead.

I think it's that they only have so many picks and resources in an offseason. You can't upgrade everything. Every team is weak at some positions. They had invested in round 2 a couple years in a row for the RB room. And they prioritized passing game threats with the new QB coming in.

I wanted OL but I get where they were coming from. They didn't want to be cutting what they felt were good players. I don't agree there but not gonna second guess it until I see how this line looks.

Yea I mean I'm not sure why people ever expected the Rams to invest in another RB. To my knowledge, it's just one RB in the NFL out of the 160 trying to make rosters right now that got a torn achilles. Thems the breaks sometimes.

As for OL - this board would be MELTING down right now finding out that Brian Allen would be starting over the hypothetical C we drafted in the second round. And aside from C, the other four spots are solid.

I get that to a certain extent but still. A wr (a very small one at that) over the Ol, RB, and LB position just makes me question. Especially since we just drafted one last year and already have a good wr room. Idk man the offense is unstoppable when the run game is going and the oline is top tier. WR would be at the Bottom of the list for me but that's just me. I have zero doubt we'll win a ton of games but the playoffs is what scares me.
The WR pick was about adding a vertical threat to open up the offense. That in a sense can also open the running game, keeping a Safety from cheating up into the box to stop the run.

I will do a wait and see here. I think next yr they carpet bomb the OL again, maybe even add a FA if needed, assuming they open up space and or don't re-sign Williams.

Some of you are acting like we get the pick of the litter. We don’t.

We are going to have to take a chance on a back that is either injury prone old, or has question marks.

CJ Anderson was on the trash heap when he strapped it on and showed he was still a good player for us.

If the Rams want to add a RB, they better hope Tutu takes the PR AND KR return job. Otherwise we're at 4 with with Hendo, Jones, Funk and Calais (who's our returner as it stands now).

I doubt they keep 5 and it doesn't seem likely that Jones and Funk are going anywhere to bring on another RB.

Look for the Rams to grab someone who they scouted last year or this year in college to stash on the practice squad who maybe will earn reps if things go south with these four. But that's the best you're going to get unless it's so bad they blow up the running back room 1/4 through the season.

If, and big if, they were to bring in a veteran back, I'd look for Funk to get cut and attempted to resign on the PS, they'd have to go looking for his ST production from somewhere else though.

If a quality back with a little tread left on the tires is released I would take him over Funk or Jones.

If the pick up a FA RB I think they cut Funk and pick him up for the PS. No knock on Funk but he is at least a year away from anything but ST play. And I don’t think any team would consider Funk as a RB on their initial 53 man roster.

Id say if we go get a RB, it's a lock that either Jones or Funk would be waived with an eye toward the practice squad.

If you're a team that has depth at HB and an established starter who isn't going anywhere, why wouldn't you trade your #2 HB for decent to good draft compensation? It's not like they can keep Pollard past his rookie contract with Zeke there.

What is decent to good draft compensation? I would hate to see the Rams give up anything more than a 6th round draft pick for a RB.

I'd give up a 4th or a comp 3rd for Pollard. I think he's a guy who will be a major breakout star if given a chance to lead a backfield. This is a guy who played a lot of WR in college. He's a legit weapon both as a runner and in the passing game. And he's a killer outside-zone runner.

I can get behind a fourth; we have the picks to spare, and I personally can't see Akers coming back from a potential career-ending injury. Running backs simply don't come back from Achilles tears. So we'll need someone who can lead a backfield.

Honestly I don't think they would trade him for a 3rd.

They take a 3rd now, or they keep him, use him as a #2 HB for two years, and then watch him leave in FA (with the best case scenario being a 4th round comp pick in 2023).

true but if you don't trade him you have an outstanding backup RB on a cheap rookie deal for 2 years. If You lose your Squirrel face RB , you don't miss a beat.

Sure. The question is if a third is more valuable to you than those two years.
