Stuff like this makes me really wonder if he IS making a play for New York. As in, this is part of showing he’s “trying to stay in Seattle” despite his desire otherwise.

And there you go; foil hat back in closet.

Seattle may figure that the Giants will draft a first round QB, which would put paid to Wilson's desire to play in NY. Then the negotiations would be a little more balanced. He will basically need to be insistent that he won't sign an extension - ever - to force Seattle's hand. Even then - does NY want to offer anything acceptable for him, knowing they will need to make him the highest paid QB or close to it? Will they agree to a very high first and other picks for a 30 year old entering his 3rd contract?

Let me say this about QB's. Since 2006, 154 QB's have been drafted into the NFL. You know how many of them have won a Super Bowl? 3. Russel Wilson, Nick Foles, and Joe Flacco. 3 more made it and lost. Ryan, Newton, and Goff. Not one QB drafted in the first round since 2006 has won a Super Bowl.
Funny how stats can be manipulated. 2006? How about going back 2 more years? Adds 3 more QB's to the winner ledger...
Oh and Flacco was drafted in 1st round 2008

Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz says his back injury still hasn't fully healed
Frank Schwab
Yahoo Sports

Last year, when Carson Wentz was coming back from a torn ACL, there wasn’t a lot of panic about when he might return. The Eagles had Nick Foles, the reigning Super Bowl MVP, to fill in.

Foles is with the Jacksonville Jaguars now, and Wentz’s update on his back injury is at least worth paying attention to.

Wentz, who hasn’t played since Dec. 9 due to a stress fracture in his back, said in a press conference Monday that he’s still healing. Wentz didn’t sound concerned about where he’s at in mid-April, but all eyes will be on his recovery as the Eagles offseason goes on.

Carson Wentz on back injury: ‘Still getting there’
Wentz said he still has a goal of being ready by the Eagles’ first OTA practice on May 21, but that there was “no timetable” and “no rush.”

“Feeling good,” Wentz said. “Kind of taking it week by week.”

But he’s still not full strength. He is throwing and running a bit, though he wouldn’t get into specifics of what he can and can’t do.

"It's still getting there. It's still getting there," Wentz said when asked if he was fully recovered. "Some of this stuff just takes time, but that's not really the main concern. It's just kind of how I feel. And I feel pretty good with where I'm at."

Is this something to be concerned about? Probably not. The Eagles don’t play their first game for about five months. It would be pretty shocking if Wentz’s back issue is still a topic then.

But the overall issue of his durability is becoming a concern.

Wentz’s questionable durability
Wentz has been in the NFL three years and suffered a major injury each season. He has played through pain, and that’s commendable, but he needs to stay healthy. Wentz didn’t back away Monday when he was asked about his durability.

“I mean, I get it. I get it. I’m looking forward to putting those behind me,” Wentz said. “I understand it’s part of this league, it’s a physical league, and things happen. But some of those things are out of my control and I look forward to putting that behind me.”

Wentz was also asked about a contract extension that is likely to come sooner rather than later from the Eagles, and he said it was exciting to think about a long-term future in Philadelphia.

But all the pieces need to fit together. The Eagles are going to feel better about that contract if Wentz can stay healthy. And Wentz needs to heal up from his latest injury before he can prove that.

The Patriots won their division 15 out of 17 years starting with 2001 SB

The Jets had a brief period Under Rex Ryan when they were competitive... but

Buffalo Bills 1 playoff appearance since 2000
Miami 3 playoff appearances since 2000

The NFC West for a long time in the 2000's was probably worse however...

Off the top of my head both Cam Newton and Colin Kaepernick went to the SB..........and I am not sure where to put Kurt Warner since he wasn't drafted.

Anyway your point is a good one.

Wilson's contract is up after this season. If a new contract is not agreed on, the Seahawks presumably will place their franchise tag on Wilson.

I'm just curious how many people reading this would tag him. I wouldn't, I would seek a sign and trade deal to get something for him. Why pay him gigantic money on a tag deal if you aren't going to pay it out on a contract. Did they not see what happened in Washington?

If it's true and he doesn't want to be there then arrange something to get him out that will net something in return.

I recall an article last year claiming that Wilson would like to play in New York because Sierra wants to be in New York, because it is better for her career.....whatever that is.

The new deal is for four years and $140 million, according to NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport. The deal would make Wilson the highest-paid player in the NFL.

The five-time Pro Bowler has led the Seahawksto the playoffs in six of his seven seasons in Seattle, with a Super Bowl win over the Denver Broncos in 2014.

He was getting paid $17m this year anyway. So in reality it's 5 years, $157m.

Or if you want to use his average salary from the previous contract ($22m per year), it's 5 years, $162m.

i can't see the rams extending goff until after this season. the hit won't be as bad because his 5th year option will be pretty substantial.

One man show again in Seattle. Wilson & his revolving WWC's. Seahawks might need to place the names of their players on the front of the uniform jerseys too to make it easier to learn their names from week to week.

So the Seahawks gave in and bought out his desire to move to New York. Record extension, and he'll be in his 30s. It will cost them.

It looks like their plan is just to sell tickets to the Seattle faithful until the next CBA gives them room to pay for non-QB talent.

No, but being able to count 5 or 6 wins before week 1 year after year certainly helped lead to a lot of first round byes and home field through come play off time.

Rams fans do realize that, right now, Goff is worse than Wilson with a (MUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCH) better supporting cast, right?

But painting some numbers in a certain light, Goff is right there with Wilson....which means whatever Seattle just paid him, we will have to pay Goff - so why are fans saying that this will cost them? Won't it cost us too?
