The owners are making record profits why shouldn't the players who produce the profit get their cut, too? The only people who benefit from your idea is the owners lol.

I don't think anyone wants a plan where the money goes from an over payed player and then back to the owners. I think what most are saying is take some from the guys at the top and distribute it around to the lower guys. At least thats the way I am reading it.

I then think the luxury tax from every team should be used for 2nd+ contract vets making within 150% of the vet minimum as an end of the year bonus.

Keep in mind that there is additional pressure on Seattle. Wilson's wife Ciara has talked about how her rapidly stalling music career would be helped by being in the New York area. Seattle needs to pay Russell enough that she will stop moaning about how much she is losing by not being in a media center. Happy wife, happy life you know

Now you tell me! Signed, George Clooney.

When it comes to securing a record-breaking contract extension, Russell Wilson is hoping a deadline will spur action.

Wilson has made it clear to the Seattle Seahawks that he wants a new deal by April 15, when Seattle begins its offseason program, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported Tuesday. The Seattle Times first reported the news.

Entering the final year of a four-year extension signed in 2015, Wilson is the next franchise quarterback in line for a mega-extension and the right to be labeled the highest-paid player in NFL history.

The honor is currently held by Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who inked a four-year, $134 million extension in August 2018, at a league-best AAV of $33.5 million per year. The 30-year-old Wilson is slated to make $17 million and carry a $25.3 million cap hit in 2019.

Wilson said two weeks ago that there was "great potential" that he could become the league's top-paid QB this offseason.

Whether Seattle can get this deal done in the next two weeks remains to be seen. The Times' Bob Condotta reported that both sides have engaged in negotiations recently.

And while Wilson reportedly wants the deal done by mid-April, it's not clear what would happen if the deadline passes with no new contract. A veteran QB with a Super Bowl title to his name, Wilson doesn't need to show up to any offseason program and could withhold his services through the summer if he so chooses.

The two sides could also agree to put off a deal until during or after the 2019 season. Wilson said in January that he would play in 2019 without a new deal "if that's what I've got to do" and doesn't envision himself leaving Seattle. Another scenario sees Seattle place a near-$30 million franchise tag on the QB entering the 2020 season, after which the league's collective bargaining agreement expires.

Wilson isn't the only signal-caller due for a pay raise in the near future. Jared Goff, Carson Wentz, Dak Prescott and Patrick Mahomes are all expected to earn extensions of varying degrees over the next two seasons.

So Seattle is not only racing to meet Wilson's soft deadline. The Seahawks are also jockeying for position with other organizations negotiating their own QB extensions.

Why does everyone deserve to be the highest paid player? Why can’t he sign a 4 year $90 million deal? Is that not enough? The QB market is completely destroying the game.
I agree. And is the umpa lumpa the best QB in the league anyway? I don't think so and I would think the biggest contract should go to the best QB. I realize Wilson does some great things with his legs and arm and has shown to be more resilient than most running QBs but without that defense, I just don't see them winning the SB on the play of wussell. I think he makes it very difficult on his O-line and tries to do too much on his own.

All that said, I hope they pay him huge jack and then the new CBA gets this crap straightened out.

Rapidly stalling? More like rapidly stalled 5 years ago.

Eventually a team MUST start the trend of not letting their QB take up so damn much of their salary cap. Let's face it; QB's aren't coming out of college on the same level anymore, so why pay them like they're Rodgers, Brees, or Brady?

He deserves it.

MY point wasn't that he doesn't deserve it. I actually love the guy. Just not the team. They don't seem to build around him well, so they are "striving for average", whereas without him, they would be a 3-5 win team.

:rant:Got it Ellard, you bastid!

May be the wrong thread for this, but.I would like to see Goff take a page from Brady and take a little less than he could get, and in return the Rams use that extra $ to continue building around the current core. Just think of all the endorsement $ Goff could get by winning multiple SBs in LA.

But back to the topic at hand, RW should get every penny he can out of seattle. They have put his career in jeopardy every season since they drafted him by refusing to give him an OL. And the fact that its seattle, a division foe, just makes it that much sweeter to see them in cap hell for as long as possible.

How crazy would it be after they ditch ODB for the Giants to get Russell Wilson next off-season in a BLOCKBUSTER signing?

That would make me so happy...in part because Skip Bayless would have a meltdown and then try and sell how Dak Prescott is actually as good or better than Russell Wilson....and Shannon Sharpe would spend the next year saying nothing, but "Skip! C'mon, Skip!....SKIP! You crazy, man!" on a loop.

Not that it's much different now, but...

I'd personally love that.

As for Wilson, he's the only one keeping that team afloat. I don't know if you pay him like the best quarterback and have nothing around him or if you let him go and have to find a new quarterback.

Either way, Seattle has some thinking to do.

I don't know how you stop it without a deal between the players and the owners. If RW doesn't try to max out (or his agent try to get it for him), they are leaving money on the table. It won't take long for him to be supplanted by the next big QB's contract. I think they need to remove the QB's contract money from the figuring of the CAP, somehow.
I was thinking along similar lines. The Q spot can't take up 20-25% of the cap and the team still have enough $$$$ for the other players it would take to be a contender.
Maybe a separate cap for Q's, or maybe each team has it's own cap based on the Q's deal? In other words, each team has a "base" cap, and then there's the Q's deal which when added to the "base" cap, would create a total cap number somewhat unique to each team.
Not sure the owners would agree to an open ended cap, though.

especially small market ownership. We got Stanley Enos now instead of Georgia, so it would work out for us!

Most likely if the CBA caps the max cap hit, it would mean that QBs would all be getting every penny of their contracts guaranteed. The Redskins would be pissed.

His wife chirping in his ear about being in NY only adds to the drama
