Rams fans do realize that, right now, Goff is worse than Wilson with a (MUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCH) better supporting cast, right?

But painting some numbers in a certain light, Goff is right there with Wilson....which means whatever Seattle just paid him, we will have to pay Goff - so why are fans saying that this will cost them? Won't it cost us too?
Not sure I like the use of the word “worse” in this situation. You can just say Wilson is better.

Goff also threw for 1200 yards more and had a RB score 17 touchdowns. Oh, and Wilson had the #1 rush offense. So I’m not sure the better supporting cast thing holds weight in this situation.

Another thing, Wilson wouldn’t be a good fit in this system. He likes to do his own thing too much. But I’ll take Goff any day of the week including Sunday. He still has a potential 12 years left. Wilson might have 4.

Of course it will.
Remember this list that put Goff right there with Wilson?

https://www.profootballfocus.com/ne...ighest-graded-quarterbacks-in-the-nfl-in-2018

His agent will.

I want to laugh at Seattle for this huge mistake.....but looks like next year Goff will become the highest paid player in NFL history.
Maybe not until after the 2020 season and his fifth year option is exercised by the team, so two years from now. Starting QBs in their second contract typically take up about 15% of the team's salary cap. If the team cap keeps increasing, Goff's next contract might average slightly above $35 million per year. High salary guys on the roster now like Whit will be replaced by draft picks like Noteboom on their first contract, making cap room for Goff. It's the circle of life.

Theres going to be a point where the qb is getting too much where it starts effecting the talent around them. I really hope Goff would rather take a lesser paycheck to help the team as a whole. But we shall see.

Any good QB on his second contract will take up more cap space than a good QB on his rookie contract. With Goff still on his rookie deal, we can afford to spend on Fowler rather than counting on Fox or Obo to step up. After Goff is resigned, it becomes difficult to keep someone like Fowler.

This is bad news for the Rams. All that guy does is compete. I hate him and respect the hell out of him at the same time.

Oh, to be a top drawer @B in today’s NFL...

They definitely get paid, don’t they?

To be fair, RW is a helluva QB. I’d rather he be my QB than Aaron Rodgers, and on multiple levels, at that. Yeah, I said that. So, the Seahawks had to find the money and pay the man.

Now, about the financial impact for the Seahawks?

It’s gonna restrict their ability to sign FA’s and keep some of their own. A QB, or any player that consumes over 18% of the total cap will inevitably do that. 2nd contract, 3rd contract, what’s the difference? The result is the same with regard to their remaining personnel decisions. They will find themselves very hard pressed to retain even many of their top players henceforth. But they will have the most important piece for the next 5 years.

Rams will be in a similar situation soon, themselves. Goff is gonna get paid, too. And if his career trajectory continues to ascend as many of us expect, then he will be getting a top salary, also. Sure, the cap will continue to rise (if TV revenues do, also), but still...

The one ray of sunshine is that the Rams seem capable of the two things that will lessen the negative impact. They seem to draft well which will keep the pipeline full of less expensive players in their respective first 4 years. And the Ram coaches seem to be adept at bringing the younger players more quickly up to speed. Both Snead and McVay are worth their weight in gold to the Rams. Surely Stan Kroenke knows this and will “take care” of both of them.

One last thing. RW’s ability to scramble will likely lessen as the years and hits pile up. IOW, he might not be nearly as effective when this extension ends and he’s 35 years old. I fully expect Goff to be quite effective when he reaches 35.

Advantage Rams.

What I realize is that Goff is way better than Wilson. Wilson can barely process the game. He is a sandlot QB who's skill is to run around while things break down and maybe a WR will run his way open. Wilson can't read a defense and make throws efficiently like most QB's do. He's lucky to have a horse face coach who is willing to let him freelance all game.

Saying Goff is worse than Wilson or Wilson is better than Goff is the same to me - but I understand what you're saying. Normally I tend to be positive and as such, I should have said what you said.

I do not like Russell Wilson - I think he's fake as a person and he's almost never hurt the Rams. For as good as Seattle was and as bad as the Rams were, he still just has a .500 record against us. IMO he's not worth the money.

By the same token, I believe we win the Super Bowl last year with Wilson. Say what you want about him and our system - I trust McVay to tailor it to any QB (or player for that matter). Because of their ages most people would take Goff though, I'll give you that.

While I differ on liking RW above AR aside from age, I agree with most of what you're saying.

The NFL has to figure this out and likely it will come first in a not well thought out form like many of their rule changes and CBA modits.

Frankly, I would be good with them getting rid of the cap. Mind you... I haven't consulted Stan on this:whistle: but as a fan of the team with one of the richest owners, I'm good with buying championships. :D

Yeah, well the latter suggestion won't happen of course.

A limit on the max percentage a player can get under the cap might work. To lessen the fight, perhaps a mild increase in the cap - which the players naturally want. Since some are projecting massive increases in the amount of revenue, the owners will still make an increasingly huge amount of money, getting labor peace while getting the thin edge of the wedge in the door for limiting individual players' money strikes me as desirable for them, while the players will be very happy for the salary pool to be increased a bit more.

Highest paid qbs, right now anyway.
Russ, Rogers,Cousins, Ryan and ..... Jimmy G?
I know Viking fans are wondering if Cousins is really the guy but 9er fan has to be a little anxious too. They gave JG a bunch of money and so far they got nada to show for it.

Yeah, we don't know the exact amount per season yet, but it looks like 2020 will cost them about $18 million more than 2019, for a 31 year old QB. That's a couple good players.

And yes, I know the Rams are going to be facing something similar.
