Watkins is absolutely worth a 2nd rounder and getting a 6th for Gaines is a good deal as he's just as injury prone if not more than Watkins. Gaines and his lisfranc injury will always be just as much a question mark as anybody. When healthy Watkins is absolutely a #1 WR we desperately need all we've heard is criticism that our WR group wasn't good enough. Yes it's a risk to pay Watkins after this year but a 2nd round pick isn't a sure thing either. We upgraded our offense and didn't hurt our defense as Gaines was looking like the #4 or #5 CB on the depth chart. Our CB room is fine our WR had questions. Well worth the trade IMO.

Sammy is definitely worth a second, even a first, when healthy. He hasn't been healthy though so giving a second for him on a contract year is very risky. We haven't had a legit #1 in almost a decade so even though I don't like the trade I totally understand why we did it. You bet your ass I'll be rooting for Sammy to have a big year.

Well, will give them credit for making a trade at this point in the offseason... doesn't happen often. Sad to see Gaines go but one injury riddle cb for an injury riddled WR.... we need a good wr more so might as well roll the dice on that i suppose. Could be a huge get by Snead.

Sorry that was for all franchised people not just tender signers. Sammy was never franchised and wasn't even extended the 5th year option. He can be signed long term.
Wasnt talking about Sammy, Tru was the subject of the franchise talk

As a big Austin fan even with his rather hard hands and lack of catch range, I love the guy and think he's a spark and value on many levels. That being said, sitting Kupp for Austin in the slot would kill me. I don't want to see Austin as a RB but Austin is best served as a WR/Slot, trick plays and PR. Watkins, Woods, and Kupp should start. Plenty of plays to insert Austin and blow the top off 90% of the defenses out there.
Austin's best role is as a gadget player and a punt returner and we can find somebody to fill that role for a 1/10th of the price. And with Watkins here we really don't need his speed to go over the top... not that he's done much of that since he's got here anyway. There's absolutely no doubt in my mind who I want Goff throwing to on 3rd down between Kupp and Austin and that's saying something considering Kupp hasn't even played a 3rd down snap but it'd be hard to be less dependable than Austin has been in that regard.

As one of his biggest pre-draft supporters, Austin has been really unreliable and is just about done here. His extension was and still is a head-scratcher, not really sure what the thought process was there.

There are a lot of dynamic/electric playmakers on our offense now. Goff just needs to play that 'point guard' position and distribute the ball.

Looking at Watkins track record it almost seems as though he gets a bad rap for injuries. I hope that he can rebound from all of that nonsense. I hope that warm California weather will help him.

Interesting, didn't realize we were talking about Tru in the Sammy thread I apologize. We cannot sign Tru to a long term deal until the 2018 free agency period begins.

On the injury front..just about everywhere I have read today states the Bills rushed Watkins back last year before he was 100% and he aggravated the foot injury to the point he needed surgery again this spring.

Looked to me last night that he is healthy again

Did you watch him play in 2015?

Last season...EJ Gaines was bottom 10 as far as burn rates go for NFL cornerbacks, benched by Fisher for UDFA Troy Hill, and had a PFF ranking of #105 among NFL CBs...he was awful my Ram brother...

Obviously you like this dude so to each their own at this point. Im just glad that its Buffalo's job to see what they have in EJ Gaines at this point...

Is Watkins going to stay as #14? Trying to remember if that number is not taken.

Yep, this trade opened up lots of salary cap implications, which always leads to Tru. Lol
Thanks for clarifying, I didnt think he could be signed
