They still have to sign Matthews and Gaines. So meh. They're not going anywhere this year anyways. So they better do some good with the picks.
They would have to sign the guys they traded as well. So they get good replacement players for this year to go along with draft picks to replace them after the year. To me that's a good haul for a rebuilding team. As big of a Watkins fan that I am, it wouldn't be a shock to see Matthews have a better season than Watkins.

Sorry @FRO I disagree, Gaines was injured more often then Watkins last year and Watkins is a home run threat that is only 24 and can pay high dividends. Rams came out of this real well IMHO.
Not saying the Rams lost the trade. I think they did well. The Bills were able to get two good players and two nice picks out of the trades they made.

Yes - but we would save cap $$ signing Tru long term as opposed to him playing under the tag.

If Tru wants to be paid as the top corner in the game, then let him walk and take the 3rd round pick.
The deadline has passed. I thought once the deadline has passed the tag and tag price were final.

Could be a long term gain for them. But their offense is going to take a step backwards this year.

Idk man. Watkins, Woods, Kupp, and Austin are locks unless Austin is traded or injured.

Mike Thomas, Pharoah Cooper, and Josh Reynolds are all before him on that depth chart plus Bradley Marquez has a special teams advantage.

I just don't see a spot for him. Receivers drafted in the last two drafts don't have guaranteed spots.
This is the way I see it:
Watkins, Woods, Kupp and Austin are LOCKS! ..
* Mike Thomas is suspended for the 1st 4 weeks!
* I think Cooper is average compared to everyone else!
* Josh Reynolds has an injury problem!
* Didn't we Cut Bradley Marquez!?!/ If not he won't make the Cut-Down!

I give Spruce a real shot!

These pre-seasons games are really going to mean something, especially because there will be no Roster Cut-Down until after the 4th pre-season game!

That's what I thought too.
I didnt think they could even negotiate with him now until after the season

They can do that the only people you can't negotiate a long term deal with is a franchised player that doesn't sign the tender by the deadline.

The Rams will actually save about $1M towards the 2017 cap by swapping CB EJ Gaines for WR Sammy Watkins, because Watkins was previously paid a big chunk of his 2017 salary as a training camp bonus. Watkins, paid less than $700,000 as a base salary, will be a free agent after this season because the Bills didn't pick up his fifth-year option. Rams hope to figure something out with him beyond this year.

I'm not following, the deadline to sign Tru long term was July 17th. If they can still sign him long term then what was they hype about that deadline? He signed the tender minutes after he got tagged

I don't know the rules about future contract negotiations, but I'm pretty sure that the tag price is guaranteed for this year.

Per BSPN, everyone came out of this deal a winner.....except the Rams.

Sorry that was for all franchised people not just tender signers. Sammy was never franchised and wasn't even extended the 5th year option. He can be signed long term.

As a big Austin fan even with his rather hard hands and lack of catch range, I love the guy and think he's a spark and value on many levels. That being said, sitting Kupp for Austin in the slot would kill me. I don't want to see Austin as a RB but Austin is best served as a WR/Slot, trick plays and PR. Watkins, Woods, and Kupp should start. Plenty of plays to insert Austin and blow the top off 90% of the defenses out there.
