People just pushing Austin out the door before the season even play out lol..

According to Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk on NBC Sports, the Rams aren't shopping Tavon Austin.
There was speculation Austin could be dealt after the Rams acquired Sammy Watkins from Buffalo on Friday, but multiple outlets have confirmed that isn't the case. Obviously Watkins' presence will mean fewer targets for Austin, whose fantasy appeal was flimsy to begin with. A glorified gadget player (despite ludicrous comparisons to DeSean Jackson), the former eighth overall pick ranked 123rd out of 154 qualified receivers in yards per reception last season. You know, I've been pretty skeptical of Goff and really have been tempered about the possibility of his development this year but honestly, if Watkins and the oline can stay healthy I don't think a team could do any more to ensure that he has the best chance to develop into a legit NFL starter.

It only makes sense. He is at best 4th in the WR pecking order before you incorporate Higbee and Everett who will play big roles. He is not going making 10.5 million a year as the 4th or 5th option at best. The Rams gave up a 2nd round pick for Watkins so they will extend him or tag him. Tavon's bloated salary and ability to cut him with few cap ramifications at the end of the season doesn't fit into the picture. Especially when the Rams are looking to extend Donald, Watkins, Ogletree, and Joyner.

On the bright side Tavon fits perfectly into the Taylor Gabriel role I've been clamoring for all offseason. However, IMO that role will be filled by a much cheaper player in 2018.

Very funny how Rams fans, some at least, seem upset we gave up a 2nd. Bills fans are irate they only got a 2nd not a 1st.
He cost them 2 1st round picks and a 4th and 3 years later is traded for a 2nd rounder and former 6th round pick....
I know how I'd feel if I was on their side of it. He actually produced big time his 1st 2 years there

If Florio says RAMS aren't shopping Tavon..expect him to be traded in 24 hrs or less

We currently have about $38 million next year. Donald will probably take about $12 million of that?

I'm not a cap expert, but with about $26 million in cap space, we would have to re-sign:

Watkins
TruJo
Joyner
Alexander
Ogletree

Joyner and Alexander could be had for about $5 or $6 million per year. We could get creative and probably re-sign Watkins and Ogletree too. TruJo has always been unlikely to re-sign anyways.

But here's the awesome thing: with Watkins, this team might have all the pieces. Obviously some still need to develop, but this team might finally have it together. And next year we'll just need to restock at CB.

uuuuuuugh, second round pick..... not sure how I feel about that... but if it keeps Goff more upright and accelerates his development than so be it.

If it ends up being more like a 3rd rounder, we'll be fucking thrilled! If it ends up being more like a 1st rounder, UGH.

Yes, but Sammy's injury history deflated his marketability in NFL terms. He has to prove he can stay healthy now to earn the megabucks.

We know Tavon isn't a typical WR.

That said, I'm withholding judgment until I see how McVay plans to use Tavon.

I mean, I can see scenarios where Kupp steps up and Tavon isn't really thriving and they deal him next year (or even earlier in the year to a team that has massive WR injuries, kinda like Bradford to Minny)

I can also see scenarios where McVay uses him as a "weapon" and the defense just never knows where he's coming from.

We've seen that if Tavon can get the ball in space, he's as dangerous as anybody. That 300+ total yard day he had really highlighted what was possible.

In order to be behind Tavon, one has to have faith in how McVay is going to use him. Plus, it's hard to give any of the players a hard time (Gurley's very much in the same boat on this) because the Rams offense last year was historically bad.

If McVay has a solid plan for Tavon, then he'll probably stay. If McVay is gonna try and use him like a traditional WR (I can't see that, but it's possible), then he'll probably fall on the depth chart and go.

Aaron Donald's contract will be similar to JJ Watt's or Von Miller's which puts him closer to $20M per.

It's the contract that puts the most pressure on Tavon, not scheme.

Which is the exact opposite of what Jeff Fisher did.

The only part of the trade I hate is the 2nd rounder. If Watkins stays healthy and has a "good" year, he will get paid next year. He is young and has enormous talent. Someone will take a shot with him and pay him. There will be no "team friendly" deal.

The Rams already have the 3rd highest cap allocation to WR in the NFL.......are you really going to resign Watkins?

Watkins is either a rental, which makes no sense for a team rebuilding or someone has to go

I need time to process this.
Initial thoughts are...
-Watkins is hurt too much and seemingly dinged up constantly, same as EJ Gaines.
-A healthy Watkins is far more valuable to us than a healthy Gaines.
-We swapped a 2nd for a 6th.
