Losing Whitworth, Hekker and Woods in one offseason?
That's a megaton of invaluable leadership and character.

:pointup:This is probably my concern… losing Woods leadership. Von Miller was contributing here too.

Offensively speaking...any leadership lost with guys like Woods and Whit was already gained when Stafford arrived a year ago. We all saw it on display. Having leadership at QB is leadership on a whole different level then any other position. We had very little there before #9.

:pointup:But this is a good point. You almost sensed the Rams’s were not forcing Stafford up the Leadership ladder last season, i.e. new to the team.

But he’s going to move more out front in 2022.

2017 was some offseason, the whole culture changed. Like Whitworth replacing GRob, the Rams upgraded massively in their WR room bringing in Woods and Kupp and moving on from Britt and Quick. That's how losers become winners, and the lowest scoring offense in the NFL became the highest scoring in one year.

He leaves eighth and tenth on the Rams career list for catches and yards.

Hell of a football player and one of my all time favorites.

I hate this part of football. And I hate this fucking news. I'm not talking your run of the mill 'hate' here.... I'm talking 9er 'hate'.

I can handle a great player retiring.
But letting them suit up elsewhere?

What a fucking gut punch.

Fuck. Hekker and Woods both gone.

Thank you Robert Woods. Thank you for being a core part of this team's turn around in the McVay era.

You played the game the right way and put the success of the team first. You did the dirty work that helped others shine. You were a leader. May your presence and legacy stay behind in that locker room. Because if the Rams lose the identity they had with you they'll lose a lot of fucking football games.

Good luck with the Titans.

Go Rams!

I get it from a front office pov. But, fuck. This hurts. He was the one of, if not The first guy that came to a shitty team hoping this new young couch can lead them. He gave his all here. He will be missed.

That goes back to my Big 5 post back then. What Andrew Whitworth meant to The Rams.He really solidified the O’Line, but John Sullivan is such an underrated player when he was a Ram. —Yes,he was not the best, but was a blessing vs of/oc from Buffalo?
Roger Saffold was shown what leadership & winning was all about.

Tavon was still a Ram though.Mcvay tried to build some of those Jet Sweeps in the O” . It worked out well with Cooper Kupp in the SuperBowl.

Tru - getting franchised twice showed how far The Rams have made it.

I agree loved Woods and everything he did and stood for, reading I'm glad they asked Woods where he wanted to go and the Titans was on his list. However, he will be missed especially his blocking plus his ability to run the football.

The Rams have a 3rd & 4th this year or a 4th this year and a 2nd next year. T
Can you help me understand the first sentence might you go into a little detail?

Do the Rams have 3rd rd selection or not?
2022 third round pick by NFL as compensation for Lions hiring former Rams front office executive Brad Holmes as their general manager

Is the 3rd rd selection in question?

What does a "or a 4th this yr mean after you state the Rams have a 3rd & a 4th?

Thanks

These are the Rams Picks: I know you know this, but for @oldnotdead and everyone else.

Here is where Los Angeles' current allotment falls:
  • Round 3: No. 104 overall (special compensatory)
  • Round 4: No. 142 overall (compensatory)
  • Round 5: No. 175 overall
  • Round 6: No. 211 overall (compensatory)
  • Round 6: No. 212 overall (compensatory)
  • Round 6: No. 218 overall (compensatory)
  • Round 7: No. 238 overall
  • Round 7: No. 253 overall

Also this from Jourdan now I understand and echo the sentiments of @Juggs and many others, but again this makes some sense.

I think these comments from Jourdan sum it up well; and despite the emotions involved, helps to explain the thinking behind the moves.

The savings from not retaining Miller, extending Stafford and creating more cap space in 2022, and the extra savings from trading Woods will fold into more moves beyond the acquisition of Robinson.

So RockRam on another site puts this into proper perspective, even though we will all miss Robert Woods (The Bobby Trees thing now getting old).

The league evolves. You can't run the same concepts and plays year after year because Defenses figure it out (look what the Bucs did to the Chiefs last year, and what the Pats did to the Rams in the previous Super bowl).
Clearly the Rams are going to change to something else, but I'm not good enough with the X's and O's to say what the change will look like. But Robinson is a very different kind of player than Woods and certainly runs different kinds of plays and routes.

Brockers NEVER had the impact Ashawn had in playoffs.
Excellent point and many wondered why they kept Robinson over Brockers, plus remember everything Brockers said about how good the Lions were going to be. Now, that's not saying they won't be under kick'em in the knee Campbell (Yes I know he's beloved by many on this board) but Robinson made a difference and all of us were glad he was in horns.

Just to be clear, my comment was about the Saints and their cap issues. It was in response to a comment about the cap not mattering because the Saints "fixed" their cap issues.

This one hurts. Being a competitive person, it has to kill him to have won a super bowl the way he did. Would love to see him go for one more with this team.

Fuck....I hate sports.

When the media pushes agenda that supports our player or team, Thumbs up!
When the agenda opposes? He's an idiot!! How does he have a job??
Haha
Life is good as a Rams fan, even the criticism is a compliment these days

Well, Bayless is an idiot. And I have not seen many legit NFL types complain about adding Robinson.

I get the emotional investment some of us make on our football team and players but some of the reactions in this thread are a little over the top. I, myself, didn't think we'd trade Woods because of a lot of what was brought up in this thread: he's a great player, great leader, he was instrumental to Kupp's development and some might even say was the heart and soul of the WR room.

But it happened and I'll go on record saying I didn't like it after hearing what we got for him. There's always so much more that goes on behind the scenes in any business deal so I was waiting to reserve judgement. Sounds like we did right by Woods and sent him to the Titans for the 6th round pick. I'm sure the front office could have fetched more for him but you have to think that we were willing to take less to get him somewhere he WANTED to play. That's our front office doing right by a player.

Wish you the best Bobby Trees and I appreciate all you brought to the team, we sure as hell needed all of it. Class act and I would have loved for you to retire a Ram.

And.. for people wondering about the impact of losing Woods.. Brockers and Donald have a relationship much like Woods and Kupp. They are super tight.
My point is that players know it's a business. And.. if the Rams really did try to get Woods in a decent spot in the trade, that will say something to players as well.
