I'm guessing the WR class in this draft factors in (minorly) to the trade value too. Lot of teams are going to keep getting better at wideout and it's not gonna stop with seemingly every class being good.
Even with getting Woods I'd bet the Titans take one with one of their first couple picks maybe even in the 1st if a pass rusher isn't there for them.

Not just you but I'm reading this a lot. He'll be 30 in a month coming off an acl injury with a roster bonus due and a contract that escalates in a couple of years. If not for the injury and the contract we absolutely could have gotten more for Woods. But those two factors are huge and drive the compensation way down. If we traded him after paying the roster bonus we get a better pick.

Last year I and others were beat to hell for questioning McSnead, and were throughout the season, now a lot of the same people are questioning McSnead for 1 trading Woods and 2 for not getting what they feel we should have.

I love Robert Woods and will always appreciate what he did for the Rams. But this deal makes sense unfortunately.
I'll always question them but I do trust they'll do their best as usual to field the best team possible. However, trusting them definitely doesn't stop me from criticizing moves I feel could have been done better. Whata done is done so that definitely isn't changing. I'm happy Woods gave us his all and will definitely miss seeing him on our squad. I think the better move would have been to trade him next year but it's very possible we make a move where it makes this move make better sense but that's not the case as of this moment.

Shit compensation, clearly a salary dump.

You’ll be missed Robert. They better teach Skowronek how to catch the ball.

There's still the minor question of an edge rusher to replace Von. Imo Woods' money will in any event go to someone new on the defensive side.

That's the real trade here.

I'm not necessarily expecting it, but won't be surprised at all if we find out within the next day or so that Danielle Hunter is going to end up in Horns.

But that's the perfect example, right?
A'Shawn Robinson was a BEAST in the playoffs. It's been years since Brock had that kind of impact, imo.
Yeah but Woods wasn't on a decline at all, just happened to play a saturated position dollars wise. We are definitely gambling a bit by relying on the WRs we have now as one injury to that group can really impact us negatively.

I am not saying this is accurate but to try and provide some context, here are some Spotrac numbers.

Yesterday, Woods carried a 2022 cap hit of $15.7M for the Rams.

Spotrac has already taken Woods off the roster but there is $8.6M of dead-$.

The difference is $7.1M, which would be the 2022 cap savings.

$7.1M of cap-relief might not seem like much but consider that the combined 2022 cap-hits of Noteboom, Allen and Shelton is only $6.8M. The way the Rams structure big-contracts, the first-year cap-hit is usually very low. The Rams might be able to do something significant with an additional $7.1M.

Spotrac could be wrong. Just saying that the Rams did not trade Robert Woods for only a 2023 6th round pick. They traded him for a 6th round pick in 2023 AND cap relief in 2022.

Fuck…. That was my dude!

Loved the blocking, route running, and overall leadership.

I really expected a 3rd or 4th, a 6th? Holy shit…. Les and his 6’rs..

Salary dumping. I’m sure in the next 48 hrs we’ll know what’s up.

Winning championships is the Rams business now and they've been pretty good at it lately.

Sentimentality can play no part in that business plan

Thanks for the outstanding play and best of luck to Robert Woods.

I don't know if he's on the decline or not but he just suffered a torn ACL and is 30. I don't think they're gambling AT ALL with Robinson.
You don't pay a guy 15 million if you're just worried about depth. You go out and get a cheap vet late in the FA cycle... Think something like what Emmanuel Sanders got last season.

A few thoughts here:

1) Woods is just not an ideal fit for Stafford. We saw that last year and although he's a tremendous leader and great intermediate possession receiver and blocker, we just added a better overall WR in Robinson that better fits Stafford's skill set.

2) Coming off an ACL tear at 30yrs old and due $16M, it's a lot of money. This is why we didn't get great compensation for him, TEN is taking the contract obviously. Having three WRs all making $15M+ is insane.

3) We obviously want to sign OBJ and keep him around for more than just next year I'd guess. There's a good chance we end 2022 and enter 2023 with Kupp/Robinson/OBJ which would be the best trio in the NFL.

4) We invested multiple 2nd round picks in Van Jefferson and Tutu Atwell. They're both very young, we cant just give up and waste those picks by putting them at #5 and #6 on the depth chart. Now they should get some snaps and hopefully develop their games.

5) Rob has been tremendous for the Rams and I hate seeing him go but I get it. Wonderful captain, teammate, leader, SoCal kid. Wish him all the best in TEN and beyond.

Some day I really need to learn this Cap shit.

Maybe need re-enroll to the University of Youtube tonight.
It's easy

1) add up money for contracts
2) subtract said money from available cap space
3) Sit back with popcorn and watch front offices work voodoo on both those numbers
4) let them tell you at the end it makes sense and they're under the cap

After the Super Bowl the Saints were the most over the cap something like $80 million. Today? They're 10th most open cap space with almost $25 million. Sure supports my voodoo theory with it being New Orleans.

No, I'm not saying they're gambling with any player but gambling by decreasing our depth at that position. Just makes us more suspectible to a major injury at that position. It could definitely work but it's TBD like any other move.

I may be the only one here who gets lost in all this.......

How does a guy who was going to cost us 15.7 mil in cap space this year, gets traded away, and still costs us 8.6 mil in cap space.

Makes this deal feel not as good by a long shot for me.
