N.Wright brings up a good point towards the end about [paraphrasing] "....the Rams need to be a little unpredictable on defense and throw Brees some coverage wrinkles, to at least make him think occasionally."

Pretty good segment. They are two closely matched teams, of course it could go either way and get out of control too. Also good note by Mangini on Peters needing to take coaching, because as I've been saying he clearly doesn't and IMO that is his biggest problem.

And to your point on throwing coverage wrinkles at Brees... Sure. But pressure is going to determine whether he slices up our defense I think. Hits and sacks not so much with Drew, but making sure he's feeling the rush as the only way that dude makes mistakes is when he hurries.

My 2 cents as an arm chair QB. Brees had a ridiculous 75% completion rate or something. That means a lot of passes are short, or slants or to the running backs.

We need to play up on the receivers. Once in a while, drop a D lineman into the short passing lane to clog up the throwing lanes. (maybe on 3rd and 5 or less)

We need to collapse their pocket a bit. If we show a 5 man front, the Saints cannot possibly double team AD on every play because someone will be running free at Brees. I noticed we had an extra man in the box against Dallas and it made a difference in stopping the run. In the past I believe Jeff Fisher was successful against New Orleans because the Rams D-line destroyed the protection. Hopefully holding gets called in this game as the Saints were just blatantly grabbing AD because there were no calls being made.

Force a turnover or two on defense and take care of the ball ourselves and we can win this thing.

I would stick to our zone coverage but have it as a ten man zone. The 11th player? Talib, wherever Thomas may go. The deep safety should always have eyes on where Thomas is for support as well.

Outside of that match up and the TE's (which we also seem to struggle with) we should be good. I'd like to see Barron blitz right behind Donald a few times as pressure is key.

Gotta just go with the same O as last week. Run it til they stop it.

We will score 30 plus. Can we hold Bress to less?
We have to jam the receivers at the line. disrupt their routes so Breez has to hold the ball longer. Only way we will beat them. We have to get breez off his spot. If we do what we did with dallas, playing off 10 yards or more, we loose.

I'm stressing gap integrity rushing up field against Brees so he can't slide and step up in the pocket consistently. I want a lot of speed to power rushes that close the pocket in around and in front of Brees. I'd play Franklin Myers opposite of Fowler at OLB on early downs and rotate Ebukam behind that for 3rd downs and obvious passing downs. Brockers needs to have a big game clogging up running lanes and getting pressure when he's singled up. I'd double Thomas and spy Kamara when he's in the game.

There will be no holding calls. Just like the last game we played in NO. Same Ref, you know, they guy who calls holding. It will be even worse this time. The mantra let them play.

It all goes together. Make Brees hold the ball by making him think and give the pressure time to get there.

There is a player on this team that embodies everything we are trying to accomplish.

He's an absolute leader.

Consummate professional.

Leader of not only teammates but of fellow men.

Mcvay will be better for having coached this man.

Goff will be better having played with this man.

Gurley, Saffold, Donald, Brockers, etc. etc. etc.

Andrew Whitworth deserves every bit of this and if we understand that riding him is the way!

This team will win!

Don't get swallowed up in anything else in this game. Ride the coattails, maturity, professionalism, desire, etc. of Andrew Whitworth.

Last week was his first ever playoff win!

This video has a good Marcus Peters discussion. Chris Carter says Asshole Face will be going after Marcus Peters on Sunday and I believe him. They also talk about Suh.

I would really love for Peters to respond in a big way. Maybe like a pick six with some solid coverage. Unfortunately, I just don’t see it happening.

What's in my mind is this:

Is Goff up to the challenge??? I think so but I'm not sure.

*He has to be cool and calm...at the top of his game throwing sharp passes

*He has to be willing to use his mobility in this game. That includes being prepared to run when the opportunity presents itself because there's no doubt in my mind there will be opportunities. It will make the Saints worry about him running too.

*Take what they give...don't force it.
