Well these last 4 teams are very offensively driven by some high power QBs
My opinion is that the team with the defense that makes the least amount of mistakes should win.
My reason for this post is that the Rams secondary ( Marcus Peters) really concerns me with his coverage.
I have a feeling that the Saints are going to match up Thomas with him and hes going to mis read or not be in the spot he needs to be.
Brees as we all know is a top tier QB compared to Prescott.

I was Really impressed with the run game against Elliott, very, very well done, it was my biggest concern going into the Cowboys game.
If the Rams can do the same this weekend it would be great.

Won't Rams matchup Talib on Thomas? How do the Saints control the matchups? I thought defense rotates to set the matchups.

The Rams don't play man like that and it's almost certain that Payton will scheme Thomas onto Peters. The question will be what we do to counter that.

....................................My reason for this post is that the Rams secondary ( Marcus Peters) really concerns me with his coverage. I have a feeling that the Saints are going to match up Thomas with him and hes going to mis read or not be in the spot he needs to be.
First, we suffered constant major concerns throughout this season with franchised priced tagged $11.3 million High Safety Lamarcus Joyner. LJ has not impressed many this season. I have heartburn often... when watching him in coverage.

Then we finally discovered by week four :shocked:why KC jumped on the Rams offer of two draft selections (one was a 2018 2nd round pick) for the wonderful opportunity to:sadwalk: have a solid playing starting corner to play man coverage:shocking:. Talk about being ripped off:mad:. At best Snead traded for an average zone coverage starting corner who plays like a young rookie who starting his first NFL game each & every week. On top of that, he has a great passion :love:for seeing yellow laundry thrown in his direction. Peters did bring with him his mastery (y)in talking trash:blah: to anyone who will listen.

Rams even picked up Peters 5th year this upcoming season :fuelfire:to have the once again opportunity to enjoy more of the same, but this time Rams will get to pay Peters over $9 million for these services:palm:.

This Sunday, I know one thing for sure that HC Payton will purposely get his best offensive weapon (Thomas #13) lined up as much as possible on either Joyner or Peters or both:headexplosion:, most of the game:death:.

Snead has done a great job :bow:on most of his moves & decisions he's made the last few seasons, but this Peters issue needs to be addressed ASAP. This Sunday might put this in motion..... Peters needs to be held accountable.

Rankings being hurt helps alot. If our defense contains the run and doesnt let Thomas destroy us , we should be fine.

Our offense will score , their defense is overrated if u ask me

If our frontline can be in Brees face before Thomas gets passed 10 yds, Thomas will have no targets, or any other receiver for that matter... They need to capitalize on Brees shorter stature. I believe we can stuff the run, but the secondary will be tested most of all...

If we double Thomas- one man jam him at the line and one over the top.talib on the opposite side. Seems right to me

Revenge game in NFC Championship more meaningful for Brandin Cooks, Rams
By Dan Parzych
https://ramblinfan.com/2019/01/14/los-angeles-rams-sean-mcvay-building-a-dynasty/

Brandin Cooks will face his former team in the New Orleans Saints in the NFC Championship as a member of the Los Angeles Rams.
Back in the offseason, the Los Angeles Rams pulled off a surprise move by acquiring Brandin Cooks from the New England Patriots in exchange for a first-round pick.

Giving up a first rounder for a second year in a row was surprising to see for a team like the Rams, but also well worth it once again when seeing how much of a threat Cooks has proven to be over the years thanks to his blazing speed. In fact, when seeing how Los Angeles locked him up for the long run with a hefty extension before even playing a single game along with the fact that he caught 80 catches for 1,204 yards with six touchdowns (one rushing), acquiring Cooks was a great decision by the organization.

As exciting as Sunday’s NFC Championship battle with the New Orleans Saints is for Los Angeles in general, this game has a little more meaning for the speedster since this is the team Cooks spent the first three years of his career with.

At the time, Cooks seemed frustrated with his role on offense for the Saints, and while it was surprising to see the Rams were his third team in three seasons, Los Angeles is certainly happy with how this situation played out.

During the first meeting in the regular season, Cooks did everything in his power to help the Rams pull off the win on the road over the Saints by hauling in eight catches for 114 yards with a touchdown, but unfortunately it wasn’t enough in the 45-35 loss.

This time around, however, the circumstances are much different since there is a trip to the Super Bowl on the line, and Los Angeles seems to be playing with a lot more confidence when seeing how they were to hand the Dallas Cowboys a 30-22 loss in the Divisional Round.

Plus, when seeing how the Philadelphia Eagles were able to limit the Saints to scoring just 20 points this past Sunday, this should make the Rams feel even more confident in their chances of pulling off the win this time around to punch their ticket to Atlanta.

Of course, if this is going to happen, Los Angeles will need every single one of their players to give 110 percent against New Orleans, including Cooks.

Hopefully, Cooks will be taking the approach of most players facing a former team by playing with a little extra motivation to help take down the Saints along with securing a trip to the Super Bowl for the Rams.Otherwise, Cooks and the rest of his Los Angeles teammates could end up spending the next few months wondering what could have been after all of that hype from the offseason if they fail to come through in New Orleans.

I would stick to our zone coverage but have it as a ten man zone. The 11th player? Talib, wherever Thomas may go. The deep safety should always have eyes on where Thomas is for support as well.

Outside of that match up and the TE's (which we also seem to struggle with) we should be good. I'd like to see Barron blitz right behind Donald a few times as pressure is key.

Gotta just go with the same O as last week. Run it til they stop it.

We will score 30 plus. Can we hold Bress to less?

This is the key for our defense. Pressure Brees or prepare yourself for a shootout. Fowler and Sampson need to bring it but unfortunately I see their tackles completely shutting them down

Rams are ‘a different team’ heading into NFC Championship Game against Saints
https://www.foxsports.com/west/stor...nship-new-orleans-saints-colin-cowherd-011419

Connor McGlynn FOX Sports West

Step aside, Hercules, there’s a new ‘boy wonder’ in town. When the Los Angeles Rams took care of business Saturday against the Dallas Cowboys, they weren’t just setting franchise history. Sure, they became the first Rams team since 2001 to go to the NFC Championship and had two players go over 100 yards rushing in a single playoff game for the first time in franchise history, but they also set a league mark, too. With the victory, 32-year-old Sean McVay became the youngest head coach in NFL history to win a playoff game and Colin Cowherd believes that was the true storyline that evolved during the trashing at the Coliseum.

“That was about Sean McVay — a kid — out-coaching Jason Garrett,” Cowherd said on The Herd Monday. “This doesn’t happen in the NFL.”

While McVay’s rapid success has taken the league by storm– with four of the eight vacant head coaching positions being filled with guys connected to the offensive guru– McVay deflects all the credit toward his players, and rightfully so.

Entering Saturday, the Cowboys had allowed just three 100-yd rushers the entire season and just four 70-yd rushers. Both Todd Gurley (115) and CJ Anderson (123) eclipsed the century mark, and hit the 70 tally in the first half alone, for the Rams. The last time the Rams had two players go over 100 yards rushing in a single game was back in November 2001, when Hall of Famer Marshall Faulk and Trung Candidate did it. It had never been done in the playoffs.

“It was old style football we haven’t seen all season,” Cris Carter said on Speak for Yourself. “It was good to see the Rams adapt that.” In combination with the potent rush attack that tallied 273 yards, Jared Goff and the pass game complimented perfectly.

Despite not throwing a touchdown and recording his fourth-lowest passer rating of the year, Goff meticulously operated across the entire field without taking unnecessary risks against a Cowboys unit that was seventh in the league in total defense throughout the regular season. He was able to do so thanks to a standout performance by his offensive line, which only allowed one QB hit and no sacks.

Defensively, the Rams did something no other team was able to accomplish throughout the season: stop All-Pro running back Ezekiel Elliott. The NFL’s leading rusher was held to just 47 yards on 20 attempts— less than half his season average.
So now the Rams carry all the momentum on both sides of the ball into the Big Easy to take on the New Orleans Saints for a shot at their first Super Bowl appearance since 2001.Sean McVay on facing the Saints: “I think it’s going to be a great challenge,” adds that it’s going to be especially tough going into the environment of the Superdome.

It’s a showdown of the No. 2 and No. 3 scoring offenses (Rams- 32.9, Saints- 31.5), but two teams that relied on their defenses to propel them through the divisional rounds. Cumulatively, they gave up just 558 total yards of offense (279 each) over the weekend.

I’m at peace with our O vs the Saints D, tbh. I think that McVay is all over this. Really.

McVay has a devastating running attack and a loaded receiving corps with the talented Goff protected by a rejuvenated OL that also opened huge holes vs Dallas. All at his fingertips to be utilized in turn at times of his choosing. Think about that. A gifted O mind like McVay with all of those O assets right at his fingertips. The Mozart of O, as Schrager says.

Honestly, I think Asshole Face is more concerned about the Ram running attack than he ever was about our passing attack. I mean, it hasn’t been stopped since CJ came on board. In fact, it’s become more deadly.

But the Ram D? Well, I think that there’s cause for concern, frankly.

Peters and Joyner vs Brees worries me. A lot.

Can our front 7 stop the run vs the Saints after the Saints watch the Cowboy film?

Are Suh and Brockers gonna show up again? Calling them inconsistent would be kind.

Can Ebu be effective? Other than the Chiefs game, has he impressed?

All of these questions concern me. And they will continue to do so until I see what happens on the field.

So, to summarize:

I think our O and our ST have got this. If we can somehow get a 2 score lead, then the Saints are probably in trouble and will become somewhat one dimensional. A strong running game is our friend on multiple levels. I’m counting on it, tbh.

But if our O struggles? I wonder if our D can handle that Saint O for very long, much less 60 minutes.

And we are so close to a SB appearance...

You and everyone else. This game is about the Rams' defense. If they show up, we're gonna be good. If not, start the offseason and go get the pieces we need.

How can our D stop all of the quick dink and dunk passes? Brees gets the ball out so quick that pressure from the dline becomes irrelevant. This is the concern I'm focused on. My thought is Rams must win the time of possession battle, and win it big. Keep the ball away from New Orleans just as they did against Dallas.

There may have been a major mountain pass opened up in New Orleans on January 20th 2019 made especially for Suh & Donald....this new route by way of broken-limbed 6-7/315 lbs Andrus Peat for the 6 ft 280 pound Aaron Donald.

The 6-5/305 lbs Center Max Unger was overpowered completely in the first half of the Eagles gm by the 6-4/315 Fletcher Cox until he came up injured.
https://www.nj.com/eagles/2019/01/f...t-injury-heres-the-latest.html?outputType=amp
Cox did return but could not continue & was on the sideline for most of the 4th quarter. I am sure Suh is busy analyzing what Cox was doing to molest & abuse the Saints all-pro center.

Hopefully, this will help offset the open free open gateway through the air permitted by Peters & Joyner for Thomas.

The way to defend the dink & dunking is good tackling and stuffing the run. That will put Brees in third and long and let our DL go get him. If Brees stays ahead of the chains we're in for a loooong day.

Or maybe we dominate. If Brees is going to dink and dunk with three-step drops then press coverage works. And if he takes more than 3 steps AD drops him. Remember, Brees isn't good when he's forced off his spot. He isn't Russel Wilson. He's an in the pocket gunslinger. And he will throw INTs.

I have the same concerns man. Joyner is the opposite of last year and Peters has been a huge disappointment IMO.
Hope his comments about seeing them again work out in our favor this time. He needs to step up like Suh did.

That said, if we can find the way to run the ball and control the clock like we did against Dallas we have a great chance to win. Can't let them have a ton of possessions. They are just too good.
