Was flying out this morning and with the funky weather, takeoff was heading east vs the typical west out over the Pacific. Gave me a chance to snap a couple pics. Really making progress. Hopefully all is well regarding the crane incident. The lack of news suggests things will be fine. After all, only bad news can be reported it seems some times.

Great Shots. Gives a view with a nice perspective of the whole deal!

John Kay, the dude making/posting those videos on youtube, posted on skyscrapercity.com about the accident:
Some info on the crane incident:A lot of damage to the steel beams that would have supported the precast seats. Will need to be cut out and reset. Supposed to set back that part of project a few weeks.
As they were lowering the crane for disassembly one of the cables failed. Sounds like a freak accident.

How would he know? It seems that he's in communication with workers on the project. But it's still the internet, so take it as it is. . . .

Awesome video, pretty incredible virtual tech. I'm just a hillbilly architect so I've never used anything like this before.
One nice freeze-frame:

Here's another:

Pic 1: So, the video ring doesn't block your view of the field at least, but it does block your view of the other side of the stadium. Any lower & I don't think you could see the uprights from the nosebleeds. But then again, from the nose bleeds you'll probably just be watching the video board. These seats (highest tier, each end zone) will probably have the poorest visibility, but maybe they'll be the most affordable or something. Also, the suspended bow string space frame holding up the ETFE roof might be more see-through than shown, hard to tell from the blurry video, but looks like a cloud with a big halo dropping down from it.

Pic 2:
It's obvious that the best seats will be everything between the end zones, which is a lot. This stadium has a TON of seats. That upper tier looks pretty steep.....not for the faint of heart. From this view, that video ring is outstanding! It's almost the full length of the field. The action on the field may not even compete with the action on the video board. It's kinda overwhelming. In fact that thing is so big, the field (and the whole stadium) will light up purple if they zoom in on Anthony Barr during a night game. From field level, I'm hoping it won't be a distraction to players / coaches.

The stadium views are pretty spartan, but the other renderings I've seen show the plazas, the covered area between the stadium & the theater, the tiered gardens.... this will be an amazing show-piece for LA for decades.

Sorry, one more:

The red highlight is a little distracting, but you can at least get a feel for what being under the ETFE roof will be like. The model doesn't look complete, so there's some structure missing, but I think it will still have a very light airy feel underneath it.
This pic also gives you a great sense of the scale of the place. Though modern & airy, the many enormous columns will give it a monumental, "coliseum"-like feel -- kinda like The Gladiator meets Richard Neutra.

I grew up not far from there... in Arcadia, CA.

It's weird seeing that area now.

I'm so far removed from that time in my life...
Me too. Is hardly recognize much of where we used to go when I was a kid.

I remember in the old days that the Santa Anita Mall was kind of a pit.

There was a crappy theater in there for a bit and I remember my parents letting me watch "Heavy Metal, The Movie" there "because it's just a cartoon, Dad..." hahahaha

grew up on the corner of Lincoln and Glassell in Orange....remember playing in the orange groves...I had Rams season tickets at the Big A for a couple of years then moved to Oregon...I'm looking forward to catching a game at KronkeWorld...
