Looks like McVay couldn't coach up Mannion...just saying.

I believe we only carried two, Goff and Manion.

Basically, he was on the active roster for 2 or 3 weeks into the regular season and spent the remainder on the practice squad, but he began the 2018 season with the 52 others on the active roster up until Jamon Brown returned from suspension.

From Wiki :
On September 18, 2018, QB Brandon Allen was waived by the Rams and was re-signed to the practice squad the next day. He signed a reserve/future contract with the Rams on February 7, 2019.

Lol, nobody “shines” in preseason and backup duty!
Mannion surely didn't. He'd just hand it off and when he did throw it was in slow motion and usually off target. He had opportunities to flash in preseason but he didn't.

Great news, Mannion was appalling to watch.
Mannion’s body language was terrible. He’d get that look on his face like, “the center just farted on my hands again...NOT funny.”

On the surface it deal makes sense for Rams. They need a backup and don't have much money. But how does this work for Bortles. Especially when its reported he had two other teams somewhat interested. A one year deal with seemingly no playing time wont advance his career. Perhaps, McVay is going to install some wildcat packages. If nothing else Bortles can run.

Right! I wasn't thinking of the practice squad.

It’s an upgrade. Win Win. Sure we are getting him cheap for the one season.

I wouldn’t see a point to it.
And therein lies the problem and I'm glad we have McVay and Snead running things. We signed a backup QB to a 1 year deal. They aren't just planning for this year but for the future. Our 2, hell our top 5, draft picks weren't needed to and didn't start last year. But they all may start this year. 2019 draft and free agency isn't just about the 2019 season.

Bortles is a better QB than Mannion, a big, big upgrade. Frankly, hopes Bortles does not see the field except in blowout situations in 2019. Goff is clearly the starter.

We'll see what happens. Goff is the starter, but I could see McVay installing some plays just for BB, and then using them in certain situations. I think the OL will be OK, but in games where Goff is having to escape the pocket, getting hit or sacked, etc., maybe BB takes some snaps. Or maybe not. Who knows. Would BB sign here just cause he likes McVay, or did McVay promise he would get some meaningful snaps in regular season games?

This is how rumors get started...

I’d say anything is possible. I feel confident McVay is fully capable of being non-conventional so it wouldn’t surprise me to see two QB sets and special plays dialed up for BB.
