Starting to get nervous that our players are either unwilling to restructure or that Snead is trying to cut cap in a different way. I would have thought we would have cleared cap space before free agency opens which I know we still have time but we are cutting it close.

I just read that they have saved 10 million so far by restructuring contracts.

The Rams will be at the cap limit when free agency begins at the start of the 2021 League Year because they have to be, by rule.

Now how they get there, that’s the question. Can the Rams do it solely by restructuring contracts, or will they need to release some players or do some dump-trades for cap relief?

Another question is whether the Rams create enough space to make any significant moves at the start of free agency?

Because they haven’t announced any of them yet. It’ll be all at once. Patience

They will have it done by Wednesday

Yeah this announcing everything at once crap is dumb. We are losing valuable time to do actual moves vs discussing hypothetical deals we could make with teams and/or agents. Its not going to result in an advantage vs other teams. If a team really wants a player, they'll find a back channel way to make their interest be known. Maybe I just don't get it, but dammit I want some news of stuff getting done. Too close to the deadline as the official tampering period (like it's not already happening) starts Monday and the new league year starts Wednesday (even tho done of those deals will be agreed to unofficially before).

LOL overreact much? We're not losing any time at all. Right now we have a good idea what our available cap space will be and we are already negotiating with potential FA targets, you can bet on it. Stafford's restructure is a key piece in getting a lot of cap space, and that can't even be announced until next Wednesday after the trade goes through. If we announce 4 other restructures right now and other teams see we have say... $10-15M in cap space, then they could potentially anticipate a move we're looking to make. Competitive advantage is playing a role in this. But thinking because we haven't announced our restructures yet means we haven't been talking to free agents is just silly. This shit is chess not checkers. People around here are just impatient and want Rams news.

Im sorry, I just don't buy into the competitive advantage hoopla. The amount of CAP room we have doesn't hint teams about any moves we want to make. Its honestly pointless if we announce those restructures now or later. Its more about that's just how the Rams do things in the NFL. And yes I want some damn news. It keeps driving me back to the boobs thread which is a good and bad thing dammit.

Well it does play into things. Let's say somebody inquired about obtaining Havenstein? Or Kupp? Or Henderson? With us being 30 mil over the cap, we're not likely to receive a legitimate, market offer. Or if we're shopping Woods or somebody else, same thing. So there is a competetive DISadvantage. However if the Rams know they've already restructured Kupp, or Ramsey or Donald or signed DWill other teams don't where we're stable or where we aren't. No competetive advantage for them, at least from a trade negotiation standpoint or the need to outbid us for UFA who they can negotiate with come Wednesday. Read: no disadvantage for the Rams

They have no choice but to be under the cap by the 17th. Doing it before then makes no difference and the majority of the things they'll do won't require players approval so this is much ado about nothing.

There are no advantages or disadvantages whatsoever that the Rams gain based on whether they do it earlier or not. Agents all know who's interested and do what they can to get their client the best deals possible. Besides not like we are in the best position by a long shot to make huge splashes anyways. Chances are we'll be more active after the intial phase of big signings. I get that they do it their way in announcing it all at once. Its purely preference on their part and nothing more. I guess I just prefer they give some news, shit I'll take Snead coming out and saying, we are getting close to some deals guys hahahahaha

Maybe it’s a strategy. Most teams figure the Rams won’t have the cap space to be active in free agency. So if they do get some cap space available why announce it before they have to? It would be a small edge but an edge none the Les

Rams' Updated Salary Cap After Leonard Floyd's Reported $64M Contract

Linebacker Leonard Floyd found his stride with the Los Angeles Rams in 2020, and he'll get to continue his success moving forward.

The 28-year-old agreed to terms on a four-year, $64 million deal with the team, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

The Rams entered the free agency period $26.7 million over the salary cap, according to ESPN's Field Yates. That number came before they acquired Matthew Stafford under center and brought that deficit to where it stood ahead of the Floyd deal—at more than $36 million, according to Over the Cap.

With the Floyd contract now in play, general manager Les Snead will have even more to grapple with as he attempts to restructure deals rather than cut players, a preference he said he had earlier in March.
Rams' Updated Salary Cap After Leonard Floyd's Reported $64M Contract | Bleacher Report | Latest News, Videos and Highlights

The Rams front office salary cap gurus (Tony Pastors - Kevin Demoff) have been laying low with their salary cap strategies prior to the big Leonard Floyd extension.

On the surface right now, they look to be in shambles with with their current salary cap mayhem.

Their plan will be revealed in the next day or two.

I have a feeling these salary cap mathematicians are going flip the Rams salary cap issues upside down and sign another 1 or 2 players nobody thought they would be able to afford.

As Colin Cowherd has said many times. "The Rams have a different salary cap than everyone else in the NFL."

I’m excited and curious to see where this thing goes as I’m sure many of you are to.

I truly feel we can finish on a Súper bowl roster with this FA and draft class.
