I don't expect Goff to have a 5000 yard season because Gurley will break ED's 2105 yard record.
I think the offence will shift a little away from complete reliance on Gurley to win games. Which will probably give us a couple of 1000 yard receivers.

Hoping McVay's offense revolves around exploiting mismatches. His gameplan in some games were suspect, particularly the Seahawks at home, at Minnesota, and Philly near the end of the 4th quarter: He'll get pass happy at times and I hope the weapons we have at WR and possibly TE don't cloud his judgment in getting trigger-happy with relying on them. Will say that Cooks definitely helps us in the deep ball category now that he has an offseason to work with Goff and puts more effort in his routes compared to Watkins.

Found these comments from a yahoo article on Cook's signing today:

JJ Jingleheimerschmidt

"Seems like a reach. He was good on the Patriots but not that good.

Izzie
"Okay, so if he's extending on a Rams contract one question. Why does the picture with this article show him in a Patriots uniform?"

Matt
Rams didn't learn from the Tavon Austin contract obviously lol

Yahoo comment section. See: Dumpster fire.

All he needs to do is average a little over 312 yards a game. A couple of 400 yard games, and a 500 yard game just to be safe, and he'll easily get 5000 yards this coming season. No problemo man.

Why the blue?

The ONLY reason he doesn't get that many yards is because the D shuts down other offenses and unless he's getting most of that in the first half, he won't get them.

That's why Goff didn't have better numbers last year. Too many games where the Rams weren't in shootouts. (that's a good thing)

Honestly, if a QB is getting 5k yards, it means the D isn't doing their job or that they have no running game. When Brady got over 5k, he had no running game and the D would disappear for long stretches. Same in NO with Brees.

I really don't care about the yardage. If we devastate teams and because of our amazing special teams, we are constantly playing on short fields and winning every game 40-10 and Goff has 3200 yards, it's all good in the hood.

Ah, you say that now, but Watkins led the team in TD receptions and we were 11-4 and clinched the division before tanking the last game and not everybody on this board was too thrilled with him.

I think his #s are gonna dip below his average because of all the weapons we now have. I'm ok with it too if we keep winning, but not to consider salaries when there is a cap is foolhardy.

Not to split hairs (I agree Watkins was completely ineffective in the playoff loss) but I think the key reason we lost offensively was that our kid QB's inexperience showed in a huge home game. They took away Gurley and it was over for the offense.

Jared's growth with another camp under McVay plus Cooks' addition plus hopefully an improvement at TE should result in a much stronger passing game and one that might better handle Gurley being taken away in a playoff environment.

If we didn't have Gurley then I would give 5000 as reachable. You add the balance that McVay wants, in order to keep defenses off balance, it just isn't likely. Goff doesn't have to be Marino, he just needs to be Montana. Now if Gurley gets injured, may Goff rain down fire down from the sky on the weak pathetic defenses come game time as their ashes will be left to lay piled on the field. Then 5000 won't even be a challenge, for the football gods will use Goff to bring vengeance upon all those who oppose their will..

Cooks has great numbers, looks great on paper. I watched most of his games last year and I didn’t see a player who was a difference maker outside of about 3 games.

I like the player, not crazy about the deal. Should he be paid like a top 5 Wr?

Haven’t we been wrong once lol! Makes more sense now on the Pats.

As for Cooks I like the player. I’m not crazy about making him the the highest or close to highest paid receiver though. I know we have money but I want to sign the right players and sustain a nice run of playoff appearances and Super Bowls. I hope this was not an overpay to save face on giving up prime draft picks and losing Watkins. Hope that makes sense lol.

I guess I am having trouble getting my head around Cooks being the 3rd or 4th highest paid receiver lol. I have been critical for Demoff but I do like the way this contract was structured. Cap wise it works.

Always value your opinion Boston. The money is what I expected. It's also future money as he gets 8.459 Mil this year. Others have stated this will look better in 2-3 years. Keep in mind the Rams got a steal in signing Woods to a 6.8 Mil average and Kupp is on his rookie deal. Once the Rams made the trade they had no other choice by to give him this type of deal. Woods has a higher cap hit this year at 9 Mil while the next two years are at 5 Mil; and 6 Mil. Overall great value for the money.

I didn't watch the Patsie play so I'll take your word that he was a difference maker in three games you watched and give him another for the ones you missed. That's still 25% of the games. When the trade was made my opinion was Cooks was not your traditional go to #1 wide receiver. His value is taking the top off the defense while commanding extra coverage over the top. He is going to take Tavon's spot on the jet sweeps. Look for McVay to create smoke screens, short and intermediate routes for Cooks. He will open things up for Gurley, Woods, Kupp and the TEs. Gurley and Cooks give the Rams two explosive playmakers. He looks like the perfect complement to the Rams offense.

I just found this article and read that Cooks 16.6 YPC average was Brady's highest every from one of his WRs from another article. This has some nice GIFs of Cooks' routes and how he commands double teams. Won't copy...

My bad. Ugh, what a crappy trade tho. I mean, we had soooo many 4ths already.
Yeah I was disappointed that Les gave up his plan to have all the 6th round picks. Really ruined the draft for me.

If those TEs can finally go the F off this season that will be an extremely impressive list.

Didn't realize Kupp was already 25. Seems old for a 2nd year player, doesn't it? Cooks is in his 5th year and he's only 24. Just found this a bit weird.

This is going to be a bargain in a few years

I honestly see it as a bargain NOW.

I think it’s HUGE that the Rams didn’t rip up the last year of Cooks’ rookie contract. I think the more accurate way to look at Cooks’ contract is that we have him for the next 6 years for 88M.

Sammy: 3 years at 48M, or 16 M per year. Cooks: 6 years at 88 M, or 14.6 M per year.

When Sammy signs again in 3 years, he will probably get another huge overpaid contract. In all likelihood, sammy will get paid significantly more than Cooks over the next six years.

I believe that Cooks is significantly better than Watkins AND we signed him long term for significantly less.

Our FO is just killin’ it.

Yeah quirks like that pop up every once in a while.

Gurley has played 3 seasons and is only 23 (granted, turns 24 next month).

Goff is only 23 (24 in October) where Wentz is already 25 (26 in December).

Glad were able to lock someone up long term. Goff now has Cooks, Woods, Kupp, Cooper, Reynolds and Everett together for at least 3 years now.
Well since he's a trailer, it's good to have it loaded with talent!

Add in Hemingway - 24.

I think that Hemingway shows this year why McVay was so high on him.

Great stuff! Thanks. I am coming around lol. Just when I think about #1 receivers I think Brown, Hopkins, Julio, etc. That was my first reaction to the signing.

I guess if he can put up another 1000 yard season it’s money well spent!

if he uses all 19 games only needs 264 YPG (y)
