Interesting timing too. The same day Joyner is not getting an extension.

What is really interesting about it ? Joyner is not that valuable. He is a lot easier to replace.

The good news about the cook signing is the WR’s & TE’s playing together for a few years together.

Ah, the ending of Invasion of the Body Snatchers.

One of the scariest moments of my life.

My Dad, being a dumbass, took me to see this on Christmas Day when I had just turned eight. Could hardly sleep for a week.

Oh, and I mostly agree with Merlin

That's nothing. My Dad took me to Life of Brian when I was 11, just old enough to be like oh my god!

"Life of Brian" is an excellent film. "The Meaning of Life" was also good. For something darker that also stars some of the Monty Python cast, check out "Brazil". I believe that was largely Terry Gilliam's project.

Brandin had Drew Brees and Tom Brady throwing to him---two QBs with arms not as strong and possibly not as accurate as Jared (especially if Jared raises his downtown accuracy). Still, Brandin averaged over 1100 yards and 8 TDs over the last three years (2015--2017). The only other NFL WR with that kind of performance was Pittsburgh's Antonio Brown, who averaged over 1000 yards and 7 TDs over the least three years. The fact is Brandin could have even more yards & TDs with a stronger, accurate QB like Jared tossing him the rock. Drew and Tom are simply not strong enough to make the really deep throws that Jared can.
Well those two guys have a proven track record of throwing the ball deep so I will respectfully disagree with you on that Goff has a strong arm but his accuracy downfield has to be more consistent before I place him above proven first ballot hall of famers

Goff definitely has more arm than both Brady and Brees. He's gotta work on his accuracy a bit though, in live action at times he suffers there and his ball flutters from time to time due to bad mechanics.

But I do think that @jap makes a good point in that in this particular offense with Jared throwing the ball Cooks is going to be more of a deep threat than he's ever been, which is saying a lot. Teams are going to know that, too, so McVay will take advantage with plenty of mixing the underneath stuff too.

Cooks is just an insanely good fit with McVay. He is going to have a lot of play design built around his deep speed/threat capabilities. Late last year there was quite a bit of Kupp being doubled here and there, so while I think that will still happen in certain situations like 3rd and short/intermediate from time to time, I suspect it will be less than last year because teams knew Watkins was a decoy. Cooks is no decoy, and that's going to help Kupp & Woods feast on lesser matchups.

This is true. Slot CBs are much easier to find than outside guys who can draw top matchups. Safeties as well are easy to find outside of the truly elite types who bring range/hitting/ballhawk type abilities. Box types are easier than the deep middle types to find as well, but I think barring an elite skill set at the position many teams are electing to put their money elsewhere.

My Pops hooked up "On TV" right before Halloween then proceeded to take a trip with my Mom, giving myself and my brother a golden opportunity to watch Phantasm on Halloween night while we were alone in the house. It sounded like such a great idea at the time, I mean what could go wrong?

Hoping McVay's offense revolves around exploiting mismatches. His gameplan in some games were suspect, particularly the Seahawks at home, at Minnesota, and Philly near the end of the 4th quarter: He'll get pass happy at times and I hope the weapons we have at WR and possibly TE don't cloud his judgment in getting trigger-happy with relying on them. Will say that Cooks definitely helps us in the deep ball category now that he has an offseason to work with Goff and puts more effort in his routes compared to Watkins.
I should probably address this more to @Boston Ram but this idea that Cooks is a deep threat specialist is just wrong. The patsies picked up Cooks because of his comprehensive route tree.

Patriots receivers run a lot of these routes, and nobody was better at them in 2016 than the guy they just acquired, Brandin Cooks.

Throughout his pro and college career, Cooks repeatedly was used in underneath and sideline routes. His precise footwork gets him open on a variety of routes because defenders have to respect all possibilities. He had what?...200 yards on long passes? Does that not mean that the rest were NOT long passes?

When he was at OSU, he caught many long passes from Mannion but his bread and butter - as with most successful offenses - was in moving the chains and often turning an 8 yard pass into 30.

Watch for Cooks to actually open up the field for Kupp. I think Woods will be used much like he was last year and is also very capable of taking the top off a defense. But I think you will see Kupp breaking long a few more times as they have to account for Cooks running every route on the tree. Hopefully this will also free up our TEs on some seams and slants.

Not to split hairs (I agree Watkins was completely ineffective in the playoff loss) but I think the key reason we lost offensively was that our kid QB's inexperience showed in a huge home game. They took away Gurley and it was over for the offense.

Jared's growth with another camp under McVay plus Cooks' addition plus hopefully an improvement at TE should result in a much stronger passing game and one that might better handle Gurley being taken away in a playoff environment.
Agreed. I think he made enough plays to win that game though. I think that without our defensive let down and Brockers going out, that is a completely different game.

But yeah - Goff missed some very makeable throws from what I was seeing. And I think that has a lot to do with it being his second year in the NFL and lack of experience. Sure - a few QBs throughout history have shown up big in their first playoff action or after only a year or two in the league. But that is rare and Goff has always showed the ability to learn and improve. He'll just be better this year.
