Did we just find OUR Kirk Cousins?? I'm all for Goff being the guy, but you gotta have a competent back up just because of injuries. This guy is a smooth athlete with an underrated arm like @DR RAM was saying. This guy has a whip on him. Olsen likes him and convinced Lafleur and McVay he was worth a shot. Very intrigued by this pick up. I'm one of the few who isn't down on Mannion, but I applaud the FO for being aggressive trying to improve depth.

Can never have too many developmental QBs flowing through the building. How many draft picks has Andy Reid gotten for marginal back ups he's coached up over the years? Plus, your season isn't automatically in the tank if your top QB goes down.

Wish he was bigger than 6-1.... I think he is Colt McCoy or Case Keenum... could be a solid back up. Hopefully Mannion can be dealt for a mid round conditional pick to a team like the Jets or a good team that loses a starter.

Yup Mannion is part of the QB depth. They've moved on from one of the two that were depth at the time of the comment. Not sure they move on from the second or not but his initial statement still applies to Mannion.

He was a guy that some of our coaches are familiar with. (Quarterbacks) Coach (Greg) Olson being in Jacksonville and then you really look at (general manager) Les (Snead) and his staff evaluated Brandon and he's a guy that's put some good stuff on tape. I think when you're able to add to that room, a third player that can kind of be in the situation where, we've got two guys we have a great deal of confidence in, in Jared (Goff) and Sean (Mannion). Adding Brandon, we'll be able to develop him and see how he does. But, I don't know Brandon at all, just seen some of the stuff he's put on tape, but he's a guy that his tape has merited the claim and I think we feel good about that."

Seems to me McVay likes his 1 and 2 this move is about the future not about this season. I think they always planned on having 3 QBs but if they didn't see anything they liked they probably would have gone in with just 2. What Allbright said was that they was looking to upgrade the number 2 spot that's why he mentioned Mannion you don't bring in a Allen if you want to upgrade your number 2 qb spot when that guy is 1 play away from coming in a game

This is the question to ask if Goff goes down which of these QBs would McVay rather have step in

The Rams could have brought in QB Brandon Allen simple because they wanted a third QB and he was the best/cheapest one they could find with a endorsement from a coach. The move only cost the Rams a roster spot. This move could give the Rams options in the future. I don't see it effecting Mannion this year but, could put him in competition next year for the backup role. Allen' mobility and willingness to run adds a different dimension to the QB position. Considering Mannion will be a free agent after next year in 2019 this could be a way to save money down the road and or improving the backup QB position. Allen also gives the Rams a mobile QB to practice against.

That's true but mobility has nothing to do with scheme because Mannion ran that same scheme in college for 4 yrs. Mannion might not be mobile enough but I don't see anything from Albert to show that he's ready to remove Mannion as the number 2. Mannion has looked much better than him next year might be a completely different story though

Those are unmeasurables, but Allen can sling it. His accuracy, not as good as Goff, but improved every year, and pocket awareness, he tucks and goes baby!

Goff has a way higher ceiling, is more accurate, currently, and has a better arm, but I really like Allen as a third guy.

I'm not saying, bench Goff.

He is a willing runner.

I think his mobility is being overestimated.
