Well ... there’s also a Booty thread.*sigh, I already have boobs, this doesn't help
Well ... there’s also a Booty thread.
Nothing is automatic with this kicker jmho.We got this.
Just need more positivity in the second half and we will easily roll through the playoffs with this level of play. We won’t need to think about field goals. They will be automatic and definitely not cost us a divisional game.
With kickers their college success doesn't translate to the NFL. Why in the world do you keep a project rookie when you had viable vets who out kicked him in TC?
Beasly got open like all the oppositing WR get open in Staley's idiotic prevent style zone. Then you got Hill missing tackle after tackle when on top of his not being able to cover. He gave up a huge pass along the side line and was totally dusted by the WR. He's mister automatic catch when the QBs see him.
I'm with you on Staley's defense being idiotic. He's a nice guy and I hate to say it but the scheme is wretched. The sad thing is he had so many opportunities to end the game today by drawing up a blitz or just changing up what the secondary was doing. Allen doesn't have the accuracy or poise to handle a blitz on 3rd and a mile. I honestly can forgive this if it gets fixed but if I start seeing this weekly I'm gonna lose my damn mind.
One thing about defense is you have to get pressure and not allow the QB to get comfortable and set his feet. Even the worst QB could succeed against a soft zone 3-4 man rush every down.
Troy Hill is being pushed into a difficult role in the slot. We have to protect the DB's with some blitzes.
We need to sign a pash rusher as well before our division games heat up in the 2nd half of the season.
Schemes take time to master. We're three games into this scheme with no preseason. Let's be patient. I remember fans of teams that had Fangio as DC telling me that it takes about half a season for the defense to get the scheme down.

This can't be understated! Get rid of the gradient crap!

I haven't read through the whole thread yet as this is only on page 3, so I apologize if someone else has mentioned this. That being said, we have a member who refs for high school who said that was his operating procedure for games. If a team has committed two guys to block one, they can hold or whatever else they want to because the team has chosen to over commit to stopping that one person. Apparently, the refs aren't in place to enforce the rules.Apparently it's not holding when you're double/triple teaming someone because, in theory, they should be held in check with that many bodies to guard them. That's really the only way I can try to explain to myself why teams get away with holding Donald so much.
Yes, we are three games into the season and the scheme is being played exactly the same. It's as childish as Kromer's complete reliance on the outside zone with horizontal concept. This year the blocking scheme was changed by O'Connell and look at the results in the run game with the exact same players.
Staley's scheme is being played like he demands it be played, like a prevent all game long. Look at the difference in the pass rush in the 4th quarter and the other 3 quarters. They weren't rushing the passer as much as trying to contain him. So the Buffs went up and down the field at will. Only when he finally released his pass rush in the 4th quarter did they finally get pressure on Allen. But he kept the same old prevent style of soft zone behind it so it was meaningless. Sorry but Staley isn't ready to be a DC. He can't adjust and his scheme is disjointed using players not to their strengths but their weaknesses. McVay needs to stop the bleeding and get a real DC in NOW before the season is lost.
