Staley I am sure owns this loss and he should. I doubt that is in question even among the staff. He got his ass kicked and everyone knows it.

what's strange is the rams got into a hole because they brought no pressure to allen. then they got back into the game and took the lead because they brang the pressure at allen and flustered him.

so at 3rd and 22 he goes back to the passive d and lets allen get the completion. what didn't he learn from the first 59 minutes of the game?

.

Mannnnnn...what a game! So close to being a euphoric comeback for the ages. However, it was not to be.

This defense needs another pass rusher to emerge, and to improve against the run. If not we have all the hallmarks of an 8-8 football team.

Still....what a game, and what a great feeling to watch us comeback, and get SOOOO close to closing it out.

Unfortunately the answer to that is no.

Well I have now rewatched the game and will post more details later, but one thing that probably goes unmentioned is that Ramsey slipped or lost his footing on the Diggs TD and Burgess lost his footing on the late game 3rd and 22 conversion to Beasley.

It seems like once Fuller went down guys were filling roles and may not have fully known what the hell they were doing. JJ was terrible in his zone, Rapp was bad, Hill was toasted all game in run and pass, and Ebukam had an atrocious game in run and pass.

One other thing that stands out in replay, Jefferson needs to man the hell up. He is not aggressive at all. His blocking showed lack of effort and he needs to fight for the ball in the air. He's a liability right now and I like the kid, but he needs a mean streak and to get dirty out there. Also, Henderson is having trouble getting to his spot on the screens, not sure if he is taking the wrong path to the spot or just getting stuck in traffic. It needs to be worked out.

The 4th and 9 call was an unfortunate call. Williams engages him before 5 yards legally and then the WR aggressively hand battles him, Williams is matching the counter engagement, refs almost never call that penalty. I really do think the ref reacted to Williams hands up. Its unfortunate, but oh well.

Looked the same to me after watching the game late. The execution in the secondary was not up to the task on key plays. There seemed to be a lot of misplays, including by Ramsay, and it certainly looked like confusion or miscommunication about who should be where. The absence of Fuller didn't help, but whether it caused further problems is hard to tell. Also hard (at least for me) to tell whether the zone coverage was at fault or the players just didn't cover their assignments.

On the whole it seemed the secondary wasn't playing as an integrated unit. If so, this can be improved. Have to stop and remind ourselves that the secondary has a lot of new pieces playing under a new DC and new scheme. They need more cohesion.

The lack of edge contain on the left side of the O just looked like bad play. I think we will see Terrell Lewis back on the roster and getting snaps in the very near future.

The offense on the other hand had some miscues but certainly played well enough to win. The physicality from the oline and the blocking for the running game were outstanding. So were Henderson, Goff, Kupp and Woods. The determination to come back was great to see.

The loss on a debatable call is disappointing, but I'm encouraged by the offense and still very hopeful about the D. This is a very strong team that can and will get better. They now have the opportunity to do so against a couple of much weaker teams.

Like others, I thought before the season that 2-1 in this opening stretch would be a good outcome. It's too bad Seattle pulled out another win. But the Rams are still well positioned to have a great season.

I actually think that’s a really interesting take and a good point. Almost like he convinced the ref by pleading his innocence too much. It was bollocks regardless though. Oh well use it as an incentive to smash the Giants next week, they need to be bang up for it to show people what we are made of.

Predictions:

1. Ebukam lost his job today. If Staley doesn't do that teams are going to eat him up until the change is made IMO.

2. Hill showed his ass and Staley should be looking at Long this week and considering whether he can remove that inconsistency with a roster move. Hill's strong game 2 in the slot just got undone by today's game and other teams are going to attack him.

3. McVay will realize he can switch up the playcalling priority wrt some of the fancy play calls. Especially in the redzone. In the redzone dial up more power runs IMO and things will look a lot more automatic in finishing drives. Seriously man this OL was incredible in the run game today and that's a huge story here.
Agree fully on your #1. Let us hope that our Rookie OLB/ER Lewis can get healthy & put Samson Ebukam on the bench. 3rd yr OLB'er Og Okoronkwo has also been MIA! At this point in time, it appears to me that Og was just a lot of Hype.

On Hill Once or IF Darious Williams can get healthy Hills poor play this early season should place him behind rookie Burgess & Long.

If Williams was healthy we would might have seen less of Troy Hill but Williams is hurting & his play is suffering also. If Williams does get healthy I would make every attempt to bench Hill period time to get those other two corner 3rd round draft selections involved.

Got to give the guys credit for showing some fight and taking the lead. But we should never have been in that position to begin with.
Defense has been getting blasted for the 3rd and forevers and the WIDE OPEN catches... so I'll gripe about JG and his tendency to have balls batted down and for forcing passes just because the play design calls for it. Didn't even look at Woods on one screen and just threw it... smh. READ the defense and adjust.

We went across country for a 10 am game against a playoff team with a good young qb, a good run game and OLine with a great WR.

We had more rushing yards
more passing yards
more yards per play
more plays
more time of possession
converted more third downs
fewer penalties
more sacks
same amount of turnovers

All that against a great defensive mind in his house.

Staley and unit will continue to grow and evolve and players will get better in the s heme. Some people might get benched. Staley could have been bette, same with McVay. But aside from the loss neither of these coaches have anything to be ashamed of or answer to anything. Neither of them will be happy with the loss but I persinally think they both did better than their opposition.

Im all in with this coaching staff.

Maybe this is better suited to the ant vent thread.

Your take jives with my gameday memory, but of course I am going to wait for the 22 before I look at this shit. I don't like to guess where guys are in the secondary it sucks.

Re: the PI... Agree as well and you know the reason they don't call that is because historically they know teams can fish for PI by running the wideout into the DB. IMO that is exactly what the Bills did and it worked.

Re: Jefferson... On the INT I don't know that he even saw it. Maybe he figured the throw wouldn't come due to the position of the coverage (IMO Goff should not have thrown that). But either way I think that's some rookie shit. These guys need to adjust to a hundred little things too other than speed of the game, like QBs who are all talented enough to put the ball in most spots with authority and even when a DB is on you. Will review this later this week but I am in agreement with you, I just chalk it up to rookie and all that. Jefferson is going to be a fine player for us, McVay and Yarbs will get all in his ass I am sure. Hell with Jefferson I'm sure he got an earful from his Pops post-game.

This team is not perfect but they're very close to being good enough to make a run. As this young season goes they need to tweak some shit and maybe flip a couple starter positions but good things lie ahead IMO. Had you told me we'd be this team prior to the season I would have fuckin partied hard in celebration. Quite happy with the product right now overall in spite of this shitty loss.

And with great help from defensive leader safety John Johnson who was in a position to make a play! JJ III was pathetic.

JJ made some big errors in the 4th quarter. He got caught multiple times watching the QB instead of playing his assignment. The third and 22 completion was his fault.

finally got to watch the game all the way through and my thoughts are pretty much what everyone else had already pointed out. Can't say enough about Mcvay Goff Henderson Higbee Woods AD and Kupp these guys really played their ass off. Even Reynolds and Everett looked good when they got the ball.

Havenstien struggled. Ramsey had an off/rough day. Kiser was quiet. Ebu and Hill need to be better. DL looked like it got better pressure on the QB after SJD got hurt. Staley needs to tweak some things but i do think he's a good DC and will get even better since this is only his 3rd game as DC. Secondary didn't look good the first half and the final drive and we need better pass rush. Pass rush might be our biggest need for us to really take that next step on D.

JJ interception was iffy and the PI call on Williams looked wrong to me. Kinda similar to the OT interception by JJ in the 2018 NFCCG where Micheal crybaby Thomas ran right over JJ but JJ caught the int and Thomas cried for a flag. That said Im not gonna go full victim mode like aints and their fans would.

Overall it was a good game.

Side note I think unis look good i really like them. The gradient needs to go asap though. All blues don't look bad but they're not great either. Can't wait to see blues with yellow pants and bone with yellow pants.

AD just slid to the ground on one play too. Might've been something with that field.
