Well I have now rewatched the game and will post more details later, but one thing that probably goes unmentioned is that Ramsey slipped or lost his footing on the Diggs TD and Burgess lost his footing on the late game 3rd and 22 conversion to Beasley.
It seems like once Fuller went down guys were filling roles and may not have fully known what the hell they were doing. JJ was terrible in his zone, Rapp was bad, Hill was toasted all game in run and pass, and Ebukam had an atrocious game in run and pass.
Looked the same to me after watching the game late. The execution in the secondary was not up to the task on key plays. There seemed to be a lot of misplays, including by Ramsay, and it certainly looked like confusion or miscommunication about who should be where. The absence of Fuller didn't help, but whether it caused further problems is hard to tell. Also hard (at least for me) to tell whether the zone coverage was at fault or the players just didn't cover their assignments.
On the whole it seemed the secondary wasn't playing as an integrated unit. If so, this can be improved. Have to stop and remind ourselves that the secondary has a lot of new pieces playing under a new DC and new scheme. They need more cohesion.
The lack of edge contain on the left side of the O just looked like bad play. I think we will see Terrell Lewis back on the roster and getting snaps in the very near future.
The offense on the other hand had some miscues but certainly played well enough to win. The physicality from the oline and the blocking for the running game were outstanding. So were Henderson, Goff, Kupp and Woods. The determination to come back was great to see.
The loss on a debatable call is disappointing, but I'm encouraged by the offense and still very hopeful about the D. This is a very strong team that can and will get better. They now have the opportunity to do so against a couple of much weaker teams.
Like others, I thought before the season that 2-1 in this opening stretch would be a good outcome. It's too bad Seattle pulled out another win. But the Rams are still well positioned to have a great season.
