Plus trading pick 29 (and three other picks) for one of the best CBs in the league. How’s that for using the draft for immediate 2026 impact! Yet media/etc seems to have forgotten that already.
And I still think we were a shutdown corner away from the Super Bowl.

Same goes for QB. Say Staff gets injured and Simpson comes in and kicks ass. He becomes a future pick and a now pick, just like anyone else we would have picked. It sucks if we would need him this year, but shit happens.
Correct, anything can happen that's for sure. That's why any move is a risk. Simpson could do that or he could totally suck or be in between. We just don't know. I'd personally err on not wanting him to come in because chances of a rookie QB balling out are always slim but not impossible.

While that's definitely true, if I can speak for the anti-Simpson pick crew I don't think they are saying we would get a better Prospect quarterback at 28 or above, I think their argument is to trade up to get our Quarterback, which I also think is extremely flawed and way too costly. And anyways I only put Arch Manning from next year's class ahead of Simpson as a prospect as of right now.
Well moving goal posts is never a good look IMO, comparing a 1 year vet to available QB's 28-32 is a viable comparison. Throwing in a whacky what it we traded up scenario is apples to oranges

I did say Simpson might be able to win a few games but that I wouldn't bet on that.

Whereas if we had a Cooper instead of Puka for 5 games, I would bet that we would still win 3 of the 5 games if I was a betting man on football.
Well, if Stafford is the quarterback, sure they'd win more games. Even if they didn't have Cooper.

I am saying that if I was a betting man that we would lose more games without Cooper than with Cooper if Puka got hurt.

Yeah, relying on a rookie to be the difference maker is not sound decision making. Rookies usually need time. No matter what the position.
Which is why the theory of relying on a Draftee to help win this year's Super Bowl is kinda flawed? I agree.

Now using a pick on Trent McDuffie??? THAT can win this year’s Super Bowl.....

If one of Adams or Puka is still healthy, a rookie WR can still certainly contribute. You wouldn't want the whole offense running through them unless that WR is a sure fired stud. Those are pretty rare but then again, Puka opened my eyes up that anyone can surprise us. I'm not saying anything about having drafted one, just saying there's no way to ever know if some unknown WR is gonna make a name for himself that no one saw coming. We got very lucky with Puka on that end. Can't imagine where'd we be at WR wise without him.

The McDuffie trade is extremely easy to understand why we did it. Our secondary needed an upgrade badly. Hope he balls out to get that Superbowl.

I just wonder how much truth there is to rumors about a future trade for a WR. Can't imagine it would be AJ Brown or Pickens - too much cap space, and Pickens would have to be extended. But personality issues aside, a tandem of Puka and Pickens in '27 along with an improved Klare and Ferguson and whoever they may acquire in the '27 draft would be formidable at worst. And Juann Jennings is still out there; he seemed to impress me every time I saw him play. I know there's not a lot of speed there but he seemed like a Ram-type of player. And he'd of been SB MVP the year they lost in OT to KC.

Three comments after reading 82 pages... the first is that I believe the Rams will sign an experienced QB to get them thru the season. Maybe Tyrod Taylor, but the team cannot count on Simpson or Bennett to carry them for a few games unless one of them balls out during preseason. Secondly... the Rams brass made a good decision drafting Simpson even if many of us wanted a playmaker on O or D. He is a smart QB, McVay approved it, they would never have a chance to draft a QB again without giving up 3 first-round picks, and he had a great season at Alabama until he got hurt. I'm sure McVay can bring out the best in him... whatever that might be. The pick was definitely worth the risk.

Lastly... I believe McVay was "subdued" in his first interview about Simpson because of the respect he has for Matt Stafford. One... it signals the end for Stafford... whether that is 1, 2 or 3 years away. It signals the end for #9 and McVay was feeling it. Or McVay was just trying to be respectful and acted overemotional. Nothing to get upset about and I'm sure Stafford was fine with the pick. You know Stafford understands the business of drafting for the future and I don't care if the Rams drafted Tom Brady..... he would sit until Stafford himself decides to retire.

All of this has probably been said already -lol... but I wanted to share my thoughts. Go Rams!

I felt the same way on this until I heard Snead's interview yesterday. He said one of the considerations that tilted them towards selecting him was, "Oh, by the way, we do need a QB2." That sounds like in their minds, he could contribute this year.

Sounds like what McVay said about Simpson and Bennett fighting it out for QB2 is the plan.

Perfect call on McVay’s feelings about Stafford, Dino.
