Good on Ramsey to try and take some of the heat off Raheem's soft coverage. That's a proper teammate and leader. But what do we expect him to say? Anything negative will unravel the team for the next couple of years.

However, he does do quite a bit of pouting when there are easy completions for 3rd and 6 first down right in front of him. A lot might be inferred from that reaction that we see over and over for the past couple of years. Why even have Ramsey on the team if you're going to use him like that?

It takes a special skill to stand 5 yards behind the 1st down marker and watch the wr catch the ball and go out of bounds. That skill is worth $20m per year.

i agree brucebruce...

ramsey is covering for him, like any ram would...

problem with me is the lack of late game adjustments that might have prevented the success of the last drive...

the rams imho need to be able to switch from tight to loose coverage, and be able to disguise it...

why are we not capable of doing that?... i don't get it

go rams

They scored 56 points total in the 5 losses. 11 points a game.
But yeah, lets whine about Morris D and discredit what Jalen says.
Good grief
In 8 games they've allowed 17 or less 5 times and we're 2-3 in those.

They've allowed 12 TDs in a total of 81 possessions.

Those 12 TDs amount to 3 TDs allowed every 2 games, which would normally be enough to win quite often. Much more than 3 times in 8 tries.

But yeah, let's complain about the 'soft D' that has been extremely successful. It helps distract from an offense that has been beyond pitiful.

A sure path to a "W" is to shut out the opposing offense but the offense has allowed 3 TDs and STs 1, so even that theory is in doubt.

Raheem's defense? How about McVay's offense scoring some freaking touchdowns and prevent giving up points to opposing defenses?

A snip showing the Rams D has given up the fewest first downs in the NFL? The 11th fewest passing yards in the NFL? I thought teams passed all over us for first down after first down. Seventh fewest passing first downs in the NFL.

You guys are using one bad drive to crucify a good coach and a great player. You ignore everything else because it doesn't feed your tirade. Everybody acknowledges that last drive was bad. Made all the worse because a team with a lead had no timeouts due to the offense wasting them all yet again.

We blew one 4 minutes in to the 3rd quarter on a 1st and 10. Then they blew two on their last drive in the 4th quarter. McVay has said they were caught with the wrong personnel on the field and couldn't get out of it. Because in another way than just not being good right now at football the offense burned all the time outs. But go ahead make your blue font jokes that are terrible. We'll just go on applying Jalens terms to people without actually typing it out.

Thought: "yeah the defense is pretty good, very good at times but our offense sucks, so if the D was better in certain situations, we might have another win or two".

Complaining about the defense losing the Tampa game is 100% accurate but is it fair (or accurate) to judge their overall performance by 1 game? That would be like judging our offense by one game, say Carolina. 24 points (the 2nd time this year we scored more than 20), 22 first downs, 6 of 12 on 3rd down, 3 of 4 in the red zone. Superbowl baby!!! There is one other fact about that game: our defense allowed 3 points while our offense gave up 7, so maybe not a good example despite being the best game we played on offense all season.

The defense is #12 in points per drive allowed (1.77) while the offense is #26 in points per drive (1.54). We faced 81 drives and allowed 12 TDs. We've had 100 drives and scored 14 TD's. In truth the offense is so inept it borders on the ridiculous. So while it's true we could have won that Tampa game raising our record to 4-4, it still wouldn't change the fact our offense scored a lousy 13 points, had whopping 9 first downs and amassed a total of 206 yards on 14 drives (hint: that's 14.7 yards per drive). 9 of our 14 drives were 3 and out or worse. We had 3 drives that gained more than 7 yards and on 2 of them we had to settle for a FG. Not exactly visions of glory going forward.

Blaming the D for that loss is like an official throwing a flag on a guy for pushing a player who just kicked him in the nuts. But if distracts fans from depression by enjoying a little misplaced anger, great.

This is a truly fantastic, well thought out post.

Complaining about that last drive is totally valid, using it to make judgements about the defense is ridiculous.

That really distills the conversation down to its essence, when it comes to the Tampa game.
Great stuff.

If you look at the number of TDs per drive our totally inept offense has produced (14% which is extremely crappy) and realize our defense is making opposing offenses look almost the same (12 in 81 drives, 14.8%), you'd realize there is very to little to complain about with respect to our defense. Seems like the "make them go the long way" has worked quite well. And if the offense was better we might be leading the NFC West. Of course most of that failure on O can be attributed to OL injuries rather than scheme but that doesn't change the fact the defense has done their job, in spades. Look at what Tampa just did today. Seattle, trailing by 5 with 3 minutes remaining and all their timeouts, the Bucs actually threw a pass to get a first down instead of running it into the DL to make them burn their timeouts. What a novel idea.

the lengths people go to defend the undefendable.

nobody cares about the first 59 minutes.

they care about the last drive that lost the game. in a situation where the probability of victory was 99%.

what is it that you people don't understand?

I know - I kinda have given up with trying to get people to understand that we hated the calls on the last drive and that is why we are extremely upset with Morris. If Morris called the last series like he called the rest of the game - TB would have had to do a hail Mary

The Cards got an OL guy named Coward, maybe they should pick on him all game just to get to McCoy.
