Part of Goff’s issues is not having a consistent running game due to the fact that our best 2 RBs can’t stay healthy. Then when we put Brown in the game he’s only good for blocking or minimal gains. I still think Goff should be taking some deep shots because with this dink and dunk offense he needs to literally be perfect on every pass on every drive. Couple that with that type of offense you are talking about 10-12 play drives where it’s basically unsustainable to do that the whole game without dealing with penalties or turnovers. It’s too much pressure on the offense-especially the QB.

Hopefully our RBs can stay healthy next year because they are very effective when they are actually on the field. I’ve been critical of Goff’s recent play but in all honesty the comments regarding his toughness crack me up. Here’s a guy who has pretty much played every game since he’s been in the league-and he’s taken a lot of tough shots. If anyone wants to question anyone’s toughness look no further than our RBs-to me those are the guys who have relegated us to this dink and dink offense because they can’t stay on the damn field! Watch the games where they’ve actually stayed on the field and performed and you see a different Goff.

two things i noticed watching those high lights. 1 is wolford has a quick release 2nd is he dose not have to drop the ball down low to start his throw
I maintain that Goff's mechanics have slowed from where he was 2 years ago. Anyway, i agree with your point. Wolf's mechanics including his feet are fairly quick. Let's hope his mental processing is as well.

Albeit very impressive, what I would like to see is Goff to commit to more weight training in the offseason. IMO, again, JMHO, some of his apprehension to take off and run is due to the fact, he doesn't feel good about his size and is somewhat concerned taking big hit. Get him working on his legs and have his father (former professional baseball player) work with him on his sliding. Overall, he might improve his overall speed and feel more confident to take what the defense is giving him.

He needs a running coach, imo. His body mechanics look awkward when he's running.

His release isn't quite as quick because he's holding the ball a little lower. I think he's doing that because of the fumbling issues he's had in the past.

I’ve whole heartedly convinced myself John Wolford is going to take the NFL by storm and turn Jared Goff into Drew Bledsoe/Trent Green.

Because....why the fuck not. These things happen unexpectedly in the NFL why not here and now.
We have already been on the receiving end of the greatest QB miracle in league history. So unlikely that happens again.

But...

I expect Wolford to play very well vs Arizona because our line should show well and because this team knows they are out of excuses.

I'd say the guy who popped his dislocated, broken thumb back into place so that he could finish the game is putting the team first. The slide was stupid, but Goff more than proved his toughness. And don't start with the "Goof" bullshit. I come to this forum so I don't have to see crap like that. We're Rams fans.
LOL....a bit preachy, no?

Id say the guy that popped his thumb into place HAD to do that out of basic instinct. He had to do that, it was his only choice. Nothin any kid wouldnt do on the playground.

However, given a different choice to be tough or puss out, his CHOICE was to puss out and give up the line to gain. Give up the teams chances to win.

The inclination to protect your QB is admirable. But to use your time to defend the goofiness of his play is a disservice to the truth. You all did that to no end defending other players until the obviousness clanked you upside the head. Tell me how Tavon is doing these days? I give you till midway next year and if he doesnt find a way to reverse the recent trend, you’ll be tearing down the moat of protection you’re building today.

Anyway....its all about Wolford now. The starting QB does not matter this week.

Personally, I'd give Perkins the shot, but I'm not against playing Wolford.

Wolford, but on a short leash! I put Bortles in there IF Wolford really struggles if for no other reason but to give Bortles some playing time with the Rams Offense to help prepare him for next weekend ( YES, I DO think the Rams will be playing again next weekend!)! Hopefully, Wolford plays great! The Rams Win! And, EVERYTHING IS GOOD!!!

They chose to keep Wolford and make him the backup, so I'd give him the nod with a short leash.

Yep. You got it.
It's our wittle feewings and you hwurt them soooo bad
.
It's not that the guy we watch tough it out behind collapsing pockets and never missed a snap until now is nothing like a pussy or a baby or whatever.
I'm sure it has nothing to do with your comments being way off the mark of reality. I mean, who doesn't enjoy talking shit about an injured player on your favorite team?! It must be our sensitive wittle feewings.

If I wanted to read YouTube or facebook quality comments, I would.
I come to ROD to talk Rams football for a reason.

What's funny is Goff is actually quite athletic. His 40 time was better than Wolford's if memory serves. He's just a gawky fuck that's not gonna change. Moves like a baby reindeer or something lol.

He's a pure passer though so it's all good. They just gotta get him what he needs this offseason and try to upgrade the backup unless Wolford really shows us something here.

No it wasn't.

But, the real key is the difference in quickness with these guys. Night and day.

Nah. Wolford just edged him out. Goff ran a 4.82 40. Wolford ran a 4.77 40. Goff's issue is that he doesn't accelerate well lol. Wolford accelerates well and is quick, but he's not that fast at his top-end speed. Goff is probably faster in full stride, but he accelerates like a Ford Pinto. But he did use that nice spin move to pick up 3 yards this week.

If he takes the open guy all day and hands off near the goal line, then "he just dinks and dunks and doesn't score TDs so he sucks" but if he tries to make the harder throw and it gets deflected or picked then he sucks for not taking what was there.
This is the reason behind the phrase "armchair Quarterback". Its the easiest position to pick a part and second guess decisions that were made in split seconds while 300lb rhinos are trying to kill them.

Its the hardest job imaginable and its why I refuse to listen to people dragging his name through the mud and attempt character assassination.

I've been really upset by his decision making, the ugly picks that were totally avoidable. I've gotten angry and cursed his name during games this season like most have. But once the disappointment or anger subsides, he is just a guy who is trying to win tough games for us. And I don't care what any player is paid. Its not my problem and it's not their fault. All that matters is their performance.

It's awesome that you don't care what he's paid, but I do. What every player is paid has consequences down the line.

As a fan, which is short for fanatic, I have the right to care what each player is paid because its often the reason why were not able to keep other players, like Rodger Saffold.

I also consider myself to be a fairly knowledgeable and unbiased fan - I try not to get too attached and I try not to bash a player when they don't deserve it, even though that's objective.

At any rate, for me it's impossible to get past Goff's turnovers. We've heard numerous times that the main thing McVay is asking him to do is do a better job of protecting the ball. To continue to see so many awful decisions is unspeakably unacceptable. It's literally the main thing he needs to be more successful at, yet he continues to be the worst in the NFL at it. There are QBs with worse - everything, in terms of supporting cast - and less turnovers.

Yes he's made good plays too - but the turnovers are just beyond unacceptable and IMO it leaves him open to every single reaction that Rams fans have, including the fans wanting him replaced.

I agree that it's the hardest job in sports, but the problem is that he's currently the worst in the NFL at turning the ball over and there's no excuse for that. And to be fair, most fans aren't making excuses for that.

Its made worse by the fact that our defense is so good - McVay preaches complementary football - so from this perspective Goff's turnovers are just disgusting. Probably a bad example but it's gotten to the point for me where it's like a significant other cheating on you - yes they did some great things and had great times, but it's to the deal breaker point for me. He already turned the ball over a lot last year and now this year it's continued - for me, deal breaker. The base expectation for a QB is to limit turnovers - even ignoring the pay aspect, I'd want to bring a QB in here to challenge him next year.
