The throw to Higbee would have been the sort of pass we've been begging Goff not to make. He has five easy yards to Reynolds. The Seattle DB is hanging underneath Higbee. Goff would have had to squeeze a ball in there while towards the DB underneath the route. That's a tough throw. If he's just a little off, it's a pick. On 3rd down, the read was right. I can't tell if Goff missed the throw or if Reynolds wasn't where he was supposed to be.

And we will have to agree to disagree on Higbee - he was open imho. Then again I like agressive passes and Goff was agressive in 2017 and 2018. Now he is just making stupid mistakes.

Rex is wrong IMO. He wasn't SOO bad. His INT was. But context matters.
It really does. Its a team game. I watched that game after I knew the outcome. Goffs interception was awful. But 1 bad INT in a game with tiny passing windows and poor pass protection is a probability. Plenty of "playoff caliber QBs" would throw a pick in those conditions. Throughout a season of those conditions, plus the urge to make something happen, I think most NFL QBs would throw a lot of interceptions on this years Rams offense.
Ryan Clark was wrong too, Goff was good in his second and third seasons and last years Goff wasn't the reason they missed the playoffs. He wasn't espescially great last year or anything, but even without a useful Gurley, Goff would have QB'd the Rams to his 3rd straight playoff appearance if our line hadn't been shitty.

This second half of this season, Goffs mistakes have been costing us games. But if they honestly believe all Rams fans don't care that we won't have him vs Arizona is just silly. Sure, the emotional or juvenile casual fans who only watch the QB and their football knowledge is informed by shitty sports shows and fantasy football - yeah, those guys don't care and many are glad he won't play.
There are plenty of others like myself who know that Goff can slice up Arizona and he gives us our best chance to beat them.

Right now we are starting to get the revisionist history of Jared Goff. Just listen to this show. They make it sound like "Goff looked ok in flashes his 3rd year". They have essentially stitched his rookie season to this one and the middle never happened.
In reality, for 3.5 of the last 4 seasons he has been a QB the Rams can and do win with.
The second half of this season is when the combination of his errors and this Offenses deficiencies reached a point where its just not working.
Personally I think the only QB talking, Dan Orlovski (sp?) is right. Goff will put in the work and fix it.

You can't say a young guy who has proven capable of doing the job with consistency (2017 - 2018) isn't able to do it again. Thats just stupid.

I guess I watch too many Buffalo games this year because I have seen Josh Allen make this throw with ease. Now Goff does not have quite the arm Josh Allen has but Goff still has a fairly strong arm. However, since it is early in the game, I will agree with you that the easy yardage to Reynolds is probably the better play.

FYI - Wife is a huge Buffalo fan and I watch with her the Buffalo games and she watches with me the Rams game.

To epitomize 2020 - when the Rams played Buffalo, our internet was out so I couldn't stream it. That just would happen for that game in 2020.

That's despite the fact that our defense was average (17th in PPG Allowed and 13th in YPG Allowed). Our offense was right around the top 10 (11th in PPG and 7th in YPG).

But how did our offense have a good year? Well, our rushing attack was 26th in YPG and 27th in YPC. But it was 4th in rushing TDs. Meanwhile, our passing attack was 4th in passing yardage and 19th in passing TDs. Basically, McVay's preference towards running the ball close to the end zone dramatically deflated Goff's numbers. Despite the shaky OL and the craptastic running game, our passing game and middle of the pack defense kept us alive last year.

Yes, Goff turned it over too often last year, but he was also forced into being the offensive hero. IMO, the big problem this year is that he hasn't let go of the hero ball and is still playing reckless.

ANd in the last 5 games of the year (except Dallas when they went against the 12 formation that was working so well in the previous two games), Goff was excellent. We should have definitely won the SF game. Goff brought us back to be able to win that game if the defense holds on one of the two 3rd and 16 plays.

If Reynolds had just bumped 50 a little, Goff would have had extra time to go to Woods or Kupp who were wide open down the right side of the field.

Instead Reynolds didn't even try to block 50 and was coming in strong on Goff. Goff tried to throw it over 50 to Reynolds who was open for a short gainer, but 50 blocked the pass.

That is not on Goff. That one was on Reynolds.

So for the first 3 passes

1) Decent play to Reynolds
2) Horrible play call imho
3) Bad play by Reynolds putting Goff into a tight spot

I really should look at all the passes before posting though.

IMO, the McVay offense has become more predictable. The hay day of the offense was when we had a solid downhill running game to setup chunk plays off of play action. Those days are gone.

We are now running what reminds me of a Schottenheimer/Shurmer style offense. Lots of dink and dunk plays, plenty of yardage.... Not so many points. This would actually be good enough with this defense.... Except for the turnovers. Goff is a turnover waiting to happen. It's not really debatable. He has been doing it most of his career and at an alarming rate the past 2 years.

IMO, this team would contest for a Superbowl with a game manager. The defense is that good. Unfortunately, the offense and Goff have been about as bad as the defense is good. You hate to see it.

Wait until you get to the passing play where Poona Ford hits Goff. Blythe's inability to hold up for even a split second cost us a TD. Goff was in the middle of his throwing motion to hit a wide open Robert Woods when Ford hit him from behind.

Take the easy yardage. Don't try to force a difficult throw.

If he takes the open guy all day and hands off near the goal line, then "he just dinks and dunks and doesn't score TDs so he sucks" but if he tries to make the harder throw and it gets deflected or picked then he sucks for not taking what was there.
This is the reason behind the phrase "armchair Quarterback". Its the easiest position to pick a part and second guess decisions that were made in split seconds while 300lb rhinos are trying to kill them.

Its the hardest job imaginable and its why I refuse to listen to people dragging his name through the mud and attempt character assassination.

I've been really upset by his decision making, the ugly picks that were totally avoidable. I've gotten angry and cursed his name during games this season like most have. But once the disappointment or anger subsides, he is just a guy who is trying to win tough games for us. And I don't care what any player is paid. Its not my problem and it's not their fault. All that matters is their performance.

We want to go back to looking for a QB because we didn't follow the previous 15 years of Rams football very closely. Surely good QBs can't be that hard to find....

If i had the car keys, my gameplan would be exactly how we'd draw it up with Goff vs Arizona. Roll the Wolf out, get him moving and use his mobility/escapability when plays break down. I hope McV doesn't dumb it down because his gameplans have owned the Cardinals thus far. It would be a mistake to go too far away from from that just because Goff and other guys are OUT.
