Maybe he can be better than Case Keenum?

Also, if we can get into the playoffs, we might make some noise, espcially if we can get Whitworth and our RBs back. Wolford is an unknown. And in the NFL, an unknown QB is at times the most dangerous QB to have because teams have no tape on him and struggle to game plan accordingly. Tebow. Minchew. Taysom Hill in relief of Brees. Jalen Hurts. Even Austin Davis for a few games with the Rams a few years ago. None of these guys are/were great QBs, and the more they play(ed), the worse they get(got), as defenses start to figure them out. You never know when you have a Warner situation, where a guy just needs a chance. But realistically, the odds are that Wolford is a significant downgrade over Goff. Still, for a handful of games, before people have any tape on Wolford, he just might prove quite effective and the shot in the arm this offense needs. Especially as he is much more of a running threat than Goff. We could be looking at a completely new offensive game plan, which could leave opposing defenses completely off guard.

Wolford could also flop. But I am just saying, as much as I think Goff is a better solution than Wolford going forward, in the short-term, I would not be surprised to see Wolford prove more effective.

We need our RBs healthy to have any shot, regardless of who is under centre.

i am one who thought we should give wolford a series or 2 when goff was playing bad. this would have lit a fire under goffs ass but playing wolford do to injury does not light the fire as much because goff just thinks it is do to injury not performance. if wolford does play well it still should give goff incentive to work harder to improve skills and we will not need to draft a qb

I meant draft another backup QB

I really really wish we had a solid backup. I mean, Fitz, Hurts, Dalton, etc. However, I'm pretty sure Wolford can go out and do what Goffs done the past couple weeks.

Teams will likely catch up to Hurts running, but running QBs often make good backups. It can catch a team off guard.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport said Rams QB Jared Goff can delay thumb surgery until after the season.
Goff broke and dislocated the thumb on his throwing hand in Sunday's loss to the Seahawks. Even if Goff can hold off on a surgical repair of the thumb, he will be up against it to play in Week 17 against the Cardinals, and might not be ready for the team's first playoff game if they sneak into the postseason. The Rams could have to start 2018 UDFA John Wolford against Arizona. Wolford, 25, has never taken a regular season NFL snap. Playing for the Alliance American Football's Arizona Hotshots in 2019, Wolford completed 63 percent of his passes for 1,617 yards, 14 touchdowns, seven interceptions and a 95.9 quarterback rating. Godspeed to the Rams.

For the record, I take back calling you out a month ago on the state of the O Line, McVay has done a decent job masking it but there just isn’t any way to sugarcoat these guys just can’t pass protect to save their lives, reminds me when when Martz allowed the line to deteriorate, virtually all the PD’s “experts” wanted Warner’s head not seeing the bigger issues

You know what they say about History...

Wow, JG played a turd of a game again, but to keep throwing with a broken thumb is crazy. Hats off to his toughness...gotta root for TN tonight so pack has to play next week...

Screw his toughness, I'll take wins over toughness any day...

Not sure but if you are, youre not the only one. He seemed to still be able to grip the ball and throw it well after the injury, so who knows.

I suspect he'll feel it a lot more today...it's pointless to play him next Sunday. Besides, they'll probably back into the 7th seed regardless....and then what?

That’s nice of you to say. Thanks.

Don’t sweat it though. Everyone has opinions. I think for some it’s more a case of people’s brains making them see what they want versus their willingness to really be critical of the team. It’s hard to separate the two. When things are going well on the field it makes it even more difficult to be critical.

I just hope we bring in a QB that can compete with Goff.
The competition will either help him thrive, or finish him off. Either way...it is a good result for us.

Here's the good news for us, we'll know if we need to win next week to make the playoffs by the time our game starts. If Chicago loses, we don't need to win to make the playoffs. In that scenario, I could see McVay sitting Goff (if it's a 50/50 call on whether he can play).

Yup, that's what we should name them....."the back in boys."

Pitiful....

I'd like to be positive, but I saw him play in the AAF, and he wasnt very good. His college career was pretty lousy (more INT than TD each year) until his Senior year, and he's mobile compared to Goff but not earth shattering.
To me, this is a be careful of what you wish for situation.
In any event, unless he was a total tool when here, I'd be grabbing Bortles off of Denver's PS ASAP.

Considering we have Goff for at least two more years and I sure hope Goff can return to form and then improve on that...

I see no reason to rush Goff back to potentially worsen the injury such that he could miss time next season. Why? He's supposed to play playoff football with a broken thumb?

Now, don't get me wrong. If he were to start lighting it up with a broken thumb, it would harken back to the Youngblood days, but while Jared is tough, it's not his toughness that's an issue.

An injured throwing hand is nothing to take lightly. Get it healed up and ready for next season.

Oh I'm sure Goff will (return to form) alright, just like the last 4 years, well the last 2 anyway....the problem is Goff remains who he is....what you see is what you get, if that satisfies, more power to you.

I personally wanted Goff benched during the Jets game when him and a coach were on the sideline, the coach was going over something on his iPad and Goff was completely ignoring him. Goff was literally staring into nowhere day dreaming.

Dude, come on.

Pitiful is not making the playoffs. I'd rather be there and lose than not be there. Some of y'all need to remember what it was like to root for a losing team.
