On NFL network just now Micheal Silver hinted McVay and Goff are not seeing eye to eye right now. He didn’t get into specifics but after hearing this I wouldn't be surprised if Wolford starts again. Even if Goff is close to being fully healthy.

There's no way he's close to being fully healthy. He'll be less than 3 weeks removed from thumb surgery and still has 3 pins in it...going into sub-freezing temperatures now to play a game. We all saw him throw the ball vs SEA. He made a few nice throws but nowhere near the Goff we're used to.

If he was healthy this wouldn't even be a discussion. Goff wants to start and battle with the guys, he's a warrior and the starting QB. McVay thinks Wolford can throw the ball better right now. Thats all it comes down to. Goff has to be frustrated.. its understandable. But does Wolford at this particular moment give us a better chance to win? That's the question. And as a competitor, Goff wants to play.

I can't say if Wolford gives us a better chance or not. Haven't seen enough of him. Personally, I think Goff gives us a better chance. Nor can I say how Goff's thumb will be this Sunday.

As for the McVay, Wolford, Goff dynamic. I have no clue. I'm just mentioning what Silver said.

No thanks for posting that, and I'm with you I'm not sure what the right call is. I think based on what we saw with his thumb I'd lean towards Wolford in the cold weather. But Goff is the starter and has a legit gripe if HE feels he's good enough to play. McVay might not see it the same way, but it makes sense there would be a little tension there. I dont see it as a legitimate beef or anything that could seriously hurt their relationship, I think Goff is a pro and respects McVay a lot. But he's also a competitor and wants to play so he's not going to be happy about not starting. I understand both sides, just a tough situation.

Silver has no idea. He is grasping at straws like the rest of us

Silver knows Goff personally since his CAL days and is fairly close to the Rams organization. You may disagree, but he's usually not one to make baseless claims.

Yeah and it makes sense. McVay has been different in his pressers this season wrt Goff where he basically took off the training wheels with the self blame and started calling it what it was. Which was a good thing btw. McVay has ultra high standards so it follows that a down season for his offense is going to have a shit ton of pressure in that coach and QB relationship.

And Silver is not only connected but is also not a guy to make shit up. So for me when I see parallels logically and then see it's Silver saying it, yeah, there's something there.

This doesn't mean too much either, btw, as far as Goff's future in horns. McVay knows damn well that Goff needs a better line in front of him. So going forward is a whole different issue from those areas where McVay is not happy with Goff's play this season. One does not equal the other IMO.

Even though the Wolf is only 6 ft on a good day, I really like how his balls look.

Yes that was meant to be awkward.

Ruh roh.

I’m not up for the Wolford era. Anyone notice how small and thin he is? He doesnt give me confidence in his durability as a full time starter

Nah, non story. Yeah I’m absolutely sure it was extremely hard for Goff to not get the start with his Ramily in the playoffs. With that being said it was obvious to all of us, and probably to JG, that his capabilities were hindered by a thumb that would swell to like twice its normal size. Not to mention his regression lately. Sitting him in this game due to that fact was the SMART decision! It does not mean Goff isn’t still Mcvays QB! What Goff did in that game was admirable! He is a tough son of a bitch. Bet he is mentally tough enough to see the reality of the situation as well.

This is the media spinning up bullshit, nothing more

I read that Silver article and that's not the impression I came away with at all. Goff said not starting the playoff game was one of the hardest things he had to accept but he also handled it with poise and maturity.

McVay and Goff are not Pederson and Wentz.

Yeah i think mcvay has been frustrated with Goff... but honestly Silver is just magnifying things.

The more I listen to Silver the more he kind of annoys me. He name drops a lot and tries to act like he is everyone in the NFL's closest friend.

Depending upon how things go in these playoffs, I can't help but to believe that Goff will be going the way of Cooks and Gurley this offseason. That is, if they can trade him.

Offensive guru playing second fiddle to Brandon Staley's defense? I really believe that McVay wants a QB that can make plays when the play called is defensed. It would make things so much easier for him and the team and would be better for the offense. Especially in the redzone.

We've seen Goff lead a elite offense before. So in those regards when you have the 22nd ranked scoring offense. I think some of the blame goes on the head coach as well. I know our oline isn't great but they are atleast average with big Whitt.

The way I see it. If Shanahan and niners can score more PPG then the Rams with 3 QBs and hurt skill players all season. McVay should be able to generate more offense with a healthier team. Not to say we can't improve personnel. But c'mon the 22nd scoring offense for the genius? There's plenty of blame to go around in my opinion.

I expect McVay and Goff's response to go like this:

Is McVay going to invent a QB out of thin air? We have no first round pick. We have lack the money to spend big on a QB. So where are we getting our next QB?
