The way Goff just ran on the field I have to think he's starting.

no you are being emotional. His thumb isnt 100% so its a big gamble to play him, unless they have no choice.

plus they wanted seattle to prepare for both regardless.
Lol ok I stopped reading at emotional. Enjoy the game.

like when you posted goff won't be here next year if wolford has a good game lol?

go take some shots.
Lol I'm just being realistic. If mcvay started wolford with goff being healthy enough to activate that tells me he doesn't trust him this game or the others either. No emotion needed for that conclusion.

I mean the writings on the wall when you read that McVay really opened up the playbook with Wolford in.

My point is... for those who keep repeating “only 9 points”, I think it’s fair to say the Rams O easily could have scored 2 or 3 touchdowns in that game. Some people say “9 points” as if it’s proof that Wolford is incapable of putting up more scores.

Rams absolutely dominated time of possession, 38 mins to 22. And Wolford was first QB in NFL history to pass for over 200 and rush for over 50 in his first start.

Look, it’s only one game. How good can Wolford be? Who knows, it’s too early to tell. But I think it’s premature to say what Wolford’s ceiling is.

Goff’s ceiling is terrific. And Goff’s floor is pretty bad.

As for Wolford, I think it’s way too early to label him as having an “obviously limited” ceiling.

I don't think it's fair to say what Wolford's ceiling is but I think it's fair to say, it may not be as high as Goff's. Equally, it's not fair to say how low Wolford's floor is either. He played 15 plays vs Seattle and then was unavailable for the remainder of the game. We've seen Goff get clocked by huge men and get up and continue. Wolford's style rather than his talent may dictate his floor. He put us in a precarious position yesterday, having to rely on our QB, 12 days out of surgery. Thankfully, he came through for us.

I predicted Goff would finish the Game and lead the Rams to victory, thereby salvaging his confidence. I just didnt think it would happen this way. Didnt like seeing one of our guys get hurt like that, and noticed McVay chastised himself for that play call. Thats also the 2nd time in two weeks that Wolford changed direction and got blasted heading downhill when he probably would have done as good or better by staying the direction he was going.

One could almost say that it comes down to McVay choosing the ‘least worst’ option.

I leaned slightly toward Wolford last week against the Cards but I now lean slightly toward Goff against the Packers.

Here’s my reasoning...

Goff’s had another week to heal.
Goff has the higher ceiling in case a special type throw becomes necessary.
Packers are a far superior team to Cards and even current Seahawks and I don’t think Wolford is quite ready for a shootout with the Packers whereas Goff just might be.
Goff is better at taking snaps under C which makes it easier to enhance Akers’ running game. Wolford was a 90% shotgun QB vs Cards. This is a huge factor in my thinking.

Look, McVay and the Rams are between a rock and a very hard place here no matter what choice they make.

Playing the #1 seed away and in frigid temps with either a QB with a recently fractured thumb on his throwing hand and possibly experiencing some lack of confidence OR the inexperienced Wolford that seems to need too much shotgun to be effective. Goodness.

But, it’s the playoffs and all teams must play the hand that they’re dealt.

Here is the only scenario that I see where Rams win this game and it’s quite a parlay.

Start Goff.
Establish run game somehow, some way. Won’t be easy because Packers will be selling out to stop the run.
If McVay is saving trick plays then now is the time to use them. Akers on RPO, for example.
Rams D has to play out of their mind again.
Rams need to be +1 on turnovers, maybe +2.
Rams D must make Rodgers VERY uncomfortable for 60 minutes.
ST units must shine. Hekker, Gay, coverage, and return units all must be superb. One error here could be disastrous.
McVay must come up with a ‘genius type’ game plan. Ho hum just won’t do.
Staley must also come up with schemes to frustrate a terrific Packer O. This is the key to the entire game, IMO.
AD must play and play well. This is huge.
One or more Ram players must make ‘hero’ plays in this game. Could be on O, on D, or on ST. Lots of candidates for the Rams, but there better be a few that just do it.

Lots of stuff listed there above, the question is how many can the Rams bring to bear? If Rams accomplish enough of the above then they win. But if the Rams do not or cannot then the Packers win and move on.

If ever there was a game where the Ram teammates need to rally around an injured QB, this is it. I am hopeful that these underdog Rams will rise up and leave it all on the field. Nothing less will do. There are many reasons why the Packers are 7 point favorites. Heck, I’m surprised that it’s not more.

Posted this elsewhere, but I'll put it here, just adding to the discussion
I have 2 thoughts on Wolford,
1) He got injured on a designed QB run. Will he be gun shy when he plays again? Will they limit the designed runs?
2) Seattle had tape to review, and is prepared for a running QB thanks to RW. With Green Bay being a more traditional offense, wont they be less prepared to face a QB who can take off and run?

As for Goff, I dont know how he doesnt start unless thumb is worse than last week, but whatever McVay decides, I'll be behind

Yep...not an easy decision at all, and so many variables at play.

If Goff enters this GB game with his thumb limiting him as much as it did in the Seattle game, I'm pretty sure that version of Goff is not enough to win the game, barring ~4 turnovers by our D and Cam running for 125+. I'm not saying Wolford would be the better choice, because that is a shit load to ask of a VERY inexperienced QB vs the #1 seed in Lambeau...but the Goff that played Seattle will need a lot of help against GB in order to punch our ticket to the NFC Championship game.

We have no idea how much Sundays workload inhibited the progression of Goffs thumb, but I hope he is resting in a Hyperbaric oxygen chamber as we speak, after receiving some form of super-innovative stem cell/fibroblast growth factor based topical balm

Tough decision for McVay. Heal up Jared:hope:

Yeah, the offense will probably need some help in this one. What if we had an ACTUAL special teams score??? Wouldn't that be something? So far our special teams have looked a lot like the special Olympics. I hope they pull their weight on Saturday. Field position will be a big factor. Need all 3 phases to be on point....but I think the Rams can win this. The. Packers have not seen a defense like this since..... SF last year. We all know how that turned out...

Whoever starts will have my full support that’s for sure ... but if goff at 80% is still a better QB than wolford at 100% and let’s be honest we don’t know that he is either

I’m not confident in this one at all mostly because they have Rodgers ... but with our D we can beat anyone

Go with Goff, no doubt, not only does he want it but he's had another week to heal, he's far more experienced and even not being at his best last week he got us 2 touchdowns and Wolf didn't even us one in the Cards game. If McVay doesn't go with Goff I will be quite upset

It depends on Goff's thumb. If he's still struggling to grip the ball, start Wolford (if he's healthy). If Goff is his old self or close, start Goff.
