I've said many times Jared has a ton of warts on him this year you know you've seen me say that. But as I've also said even with his warts we don't know if Wolford's best is any better than Jared's warts.

Five weeks ago against this same defense Jared with his lows put up a 37/47 for 351 yards 1 TD and no turnovers and was sacked less than the mobile Wolford with the same oline the only difference being Kupp. You also have to give him some credit. Oh and he ran for a TD.
I always give Goff the cred he deserves. I love the kid and root hard for him. But I am a fan of the Rams and winning games first.

Last game in Seattle we lost the division. When there were receiving options open for what could have been big scores. The OL was shit too (particularly Blythe) and I have posted extensively on that. But we still need the QB to aggressively hit receivers down the field.

And btw we all know the reasons WHY Goff has been turtling, struggling or whatever you want to call it: the combo of poor protections for a pocket QB plus lack of run game or deep threats. Again though that doesn't change what we are going to need in this game to come out with that W. This is a huge game for him and I'm rooting for the guy to bring us that big victory. :beer2:

But the thing most people pushing for Wolford won't say and I'm not saying it's you doing this is would Wolford have won that game for us? Based on what I saw vs Arizona I can't even begin to think he'd have won @Seattle 2 weeks ago. That's where most of the crossfire and defending Goff is coming from, most of us just think even when he's not 100% think he's a better QB and gives us more of a chance to win.

I am just glad Whitworth will be back because if Goff does play our OL has to be strong against a fired up Seahawks DL. My only concern is if Goff is being pressured or knocked down constantly is he going to be worrying about the game at hand or protecting the thumb. Mindset is everything come gameday. I hope Goffs mindset will be on point. We lose we go home no other chances. Which is why I am nervous about tomorrow.
I think if the OL plays well Goff will play well. He should be able to shred that shit secondary this time around. So will Wolford if he gets the nod too btw so that's why I said early on in this thread I'm more concerned with the OL than anything else.

Akers benefits too btw. And if he gets rolling Seattle will have a hell of a time swallowing that shit. They consider themselves the big physical unit and all that.

I don't see a reason for any of that crossfire OS. That's what's funny here for me.

What has changed from then to now is that McVay knows he can call on Wolford. He knows Wolford can run this offense.

As to thinking Goff in any form is better than a backup... I think that's where you are wrong. And it's where we'll disagree my man. Goff is not that QB whose floor is high enough that he's always better than a backup. In fact this season has demonstrated that to be false. The Miami game was the game where he would have suffered his first benching of his career had McVay known Wolford can run the offense.

It's ok to acknowledge that Goff has come up short of expectations this season. It's not all his fault. Rams share in that. But they did what they could last offseason to reload the team after losing Gurley, Cooks, Wade, etc. I am confident they'll get to work on the OL and get him better protection so he can do his thing going forward.

Not going to quote all the responses, but I understand what everyone is saying and there's some things I also agree with. To be clear, I'm not trying to take anything away from Goff - the message I'm trying to convey is that diversity in the game plan is good. Sure, you can 'take what defenses give you', but in the playoffs, defenses are better, and what they seem to be 'giving you', may actually be an attempt to lure you into throws they want you to make.
We are so close to saying almost the same thing, only thing I'm not agreeing with is in thinking that Wolford took plays that are available for Goff, but ones he doesnt want to take. Arizona was cheating on the intermediate stuff, and Wolford (outside of that first one) stayed outside of it (mostly)/ Goff wasnt going to see the same stuff

I hope I didn't come across as favoring one QB over the other. I think what I was trying to get across, maybe not that successfully, was that perhaps McVay called a better game for Wolford. It's' week 17, the last regular season game, playoffs on the line, I think McVay called a more aggressive game plan, though I have no inside knowledge of this fact :D . I hope he continues that approach going forward in the playoffs regardless of who starts at QB.

Sorry but this is what's funny. Can he? How many points did we score? Three field goals against the Cards just a few weeks after Goff put up 31 points on offense against the same team? I don't want to talk shit about Wolford but that's exactly what I'm trying to say. Wolford scores 9 points against the Cards at home and suddenly McVay and the offense are better and able to open up more compared to what Goff did just a few weeks before on the road? The fact don't add up to your conclusion there IMO.

We went from one option at QB to two. That is a good thing in my book.

You and some others here don't believe in Wolford. I respect that. It's a fair take. But I'm a fan who trusts my eyes and I like what I saw in that game.

Can't we just agree to disagree? I mean feel free to grade this with another laugh if you wish. It's all good man I'm not some insecure dude who needs people to agree with me to validate my opinion. I'm a happy MFer right now in fact with that windfall we just gained at QB. But let's agree to disagree and hopefully Goff will play so well that we'll never settle that one. :beer2::cool:

Goff or Wolford?
FINAL ANSWER:

Both!!!
Yep. That's what i'm hoping to see tomorrow. Maybe 80% Goff 20% Wolf.

In addition to the obvious schematic benefits of going this way, there are two other reasons (well three).

1. It'd be a good idea to limit Goff's touches if possible due to the thumb. Taking hard snaps, bad weather, getting hit etc. If he takes 10-20 less snaps for example, that could go a long way to avoid aggravating what is surely a thumb that is nowhere near 100%.

2. IMO Wolford would be far more effective in spots rather than being asked to play the full game. Let's not forget this a playoff game. Whole different thing. Seattle's D will be ready.

3. Effectively squashes the QB controversy stuff...for now...and right now we're starting a playoff run. The LAST thing any team needs right now is distraction. Save that shit for the offseason.

Start Goff. Use Wolford.

I could live with that, it does seem that perhaps Coach AH Face Payton might actually be an innovator here?

Look, as a fan, I just want our guys to win...period

I liked what I saw, too.

The offense this year seems to have a lot of simple reads and easy targets best I can tell. And even with what some might consider a lesser OLine, I believe that teams have caught up to McVay and his schemes far better than what we witnessed in prior seasons.

This kid looks like he gives this offense a boost by being able to extend and/or make off script plays in case the called play is well defensed. This helps extend drives which helps keep the defense more rested. Robert Woods pointed some of this out and even added how he created opportunities for guys to go up and make plays down the field and how he was confident and staying poised under pressure.

Even on those bootlegs plays, I loved how much faster Wolford gets turned back towards the line of scrimmage which gave him more time to see the field.

Goff is the more experienced QB. But, Wolford seemed like the better fit, IMO.

I would be giving Wolford the starter snaps and let the team know he's going to be the starter.

He actually looks like a more modern run-pass type of quarterback where Goff is pretty much strictly a pocket passer and a guy with a lot of guts that can take a hit.

I just don't see how Goff gives us the best option considering he just came off a broken thumb.

And you seem to make every post of yours about Goff. What do we call that?

That is a total of four of my posts, I've had probably over a thousand posts on here so that is actually a very few of my posts. Is this board now trying to sensor members posts to be in line with their own views.

I think jareds surgery on his fumbling hand will give mcvay the reason/excuse to start wolford. And we will win.
