Blake Corum 'really stood out' to Sean McVay during OTAs​

Sean McVay’s offense is not an easy one to learn, given all of the pre-snap motion, audibles and route combinations the Rams use. It’s a bit easier for a running back compared to a receiver or quarterback, but it’s still difficult.

Blake Corum is doing everything he can to get up to speed as quickly as possible, hoping to carve out a role for himself as a rookie behind Kyren Williams. He’s only a month and a half into his Rams tenure but he’s picking things up like a pro.

McVay said in an OTA recap video this week that he’s been particularly impressed with Corum.

“On the offensive side, I’ve been pleased with a lot of guys but Blake Corum has really stood out,” McVay said. “Mature beyond his years. I love the way that he handles himself. I love even more how when there’s been a couple of things that didn’t go the way we wanted, how he responded the next play. The mental toughness that you see from him. Ron Gould is excellent with that room. Even Kyren in his own way has done such a great job of imparting a certain amount of wisdom with him.”

Williams is still expected to be the starter in the backfield but Corum is going to get his opportunities, too. He said himself that he’ll “definitely” be catching the ball out of the backfield, indicating he could be in for a third-down role as a blocker and receiver in obvious passing situations.

Corum will have an even better chance to prove himself in training camp when the pads come on and the physicality ramps up, but it’s good to hear he’s already making a positive impression on his new team.

When The Rams moved up to draft Brandon Fiske.It’s AMAZING how quickly Mcvay & Snead focused on drafting BC22 Black Corum.

Mcvay was STOKED!! Boston Scott is & has been good to have in that RB room.The GREAT thing about BK22 is that at Michigan he was in a STABLE RB group were he shared carries.

Don’t expect to many carries in the preseason if any after the first game.

This is really good to hear. Rams could have a real two head monster in the backfield especially with what I expect to be an improved inter of the OL.

Yes. The reports beforehand were wrong. After watching Behind the Grind I believe they probably called about Bowers and Murphy. I trust the reporting from Jourdan about them trying to trade up into round one. She’s been consistent with that, and reported it after the draft

For sure, it was 100% obvious they were open to trading up and it seemed they were interested in the idea within the top 4-9 picks which tells me it probably wasn't for Brock Bowers like many here had speculated.

Last year the apparently wanted to trade up for Gibbs but we couldn't get any takers.

All in all I'm happy how the draft fell and who we took.

My only one gripe is giving up our one 5th round pick this year, that would have been prime territory to take a legitimate LB prospect right there to pair with Jones.

The Rams offense is going to be a fire-breathing dragon this year, as long as it stays fairly healthy.. just like any other team.
Adding Corum was great.. just great. Getting even bigger and nastier on the interior OL is a great move. Keeping Demarcus Robinson is a great move.. bringing in Parkinson is a great move.

I really do think a lot of people are sleeping on this team.

Heck.. if you get marginal improvement on special teams and the kicking game.. there's a big factor.

Losing Raheem is going to hurt.. but one of the biggest roles he had was in supporting McVay. I think McVay's personal growth the last two seasons will carry him through that part of losing Morris.. and I trust Shula is ready for the job.

Can't wait.

Guy like him really needs a pairing, so good on the Rams for seeing that and making it a priority.

Corum is similar in style in some ways, in that clearly McVay has a type with backs and he also fits that. But he's much more of a bell cow I think, so at the very least he will end up taking the tougher early-down carries vs the hard fronts on the sched. Split on carries should be relatively even, ideally speaking. So I don't think the question of who is the starter is the key here, rather who is prioritized in what role.

Come week one if Corum gets the nod to "start" there will be a lot of nonsense around it but it will be overplayed. We should be in for a great season with a two headed monster in 2024 in that backfield.

Don’t count Boston Scott out of the mix as well.Then pick between Rivers & Z. Evan’s.

As bad as it sounds, I think Corum will probably be the starter by the end of the year. Nothing against Kyren, he's awesome but injury prone so Corum will have an opportunity to get some run and if he does, I can see him taking on more of the load. With that said, I still think he'll share the load with Kyren as the 1A.

Kyren was second only to McCaffrey as a RB last year; if Corum supersedes him, that can only be a good thing.

Well I'll clarify, I'm saying as bad as it sounds because Kyren just established himself as a stud and it sounds bad (not that it is if that makes sense) to be replaced as the starter one year later by a rookie. It's a good thing for the team overall though.
