They let the refs have too much leeway in calling games. Call the obvious blatant penalties (e.g. offensive holding) when it's there. When you don't do that, then it becomes completely arbitrary, and potentially game outcome altering, when you do call holding on only 20-30% of the plays where it blatantly occurs (see scumbag Carrol's complaint).

We need to create an Officiating school, then an Officiating draft - let the fans and teams have a vote in selecting who is gets the FULLTIME job of being a ref and that’ll solve it once and for all - cause it’ll give us a stake in the game, as oppose to Goodhell or some imaginary mafia syndicate, missed calls won’t seem like a conspiracy but simply what they are - human error
But really - i think to solve this you gotta make them ALL Full Time employees with big salaries - not just refs but sideline judges etc.

I was flabbergasted that wasn't called. Who ISN'T looking at the kicker during the kickoff???
The offsides was almost as bad.........but missing that call on the kicker was as bad as I have ever seen.

Also you do realize that every singe one of the refs and many others would have to be complicit. Literally hundreds of people would have to be involved. It would leak.

The instance of a ref cheating in the NBA has been used ever since as "evidence" that every ref in every sport is "dirty". In that one instance, and there is no other evidence anywhere else ever, he was betting on the games himself.
One final thought to everyone who thinks the games are rigged..........why watch then?
The public pressure when the replacement refs were on the field prevented that for the time being.
It'll end up happening in the future though. If Goodell hadn't caved to all the media generated bullshit about how bad the replacements were we may have seen full time refs come from the negotiations with the union. It was on the table if I recall correctly but a deal got rushed through because of the publicity.

Man I love me a good conspiracy post! Bravo! And yes, I think the league at large is geared towards competitive balance, in order to keep fans hopeful and squeeze every dime they can from fans. No doubt about it IMO, just look at the Patriots' first championship season post-9/11. Oh sure Patriots, go ahead and mug the GSoT receivers. Why not.

The only people that would have to know were owners and refs. Owners keep it quiet because the system is making money. The refs could sign a confidentiality agreement before being hired. Plus it wouldn’t have to be every crew. Just a few crews assigned to certain games.

Someone should start a pro football referee focus site where they rate the referees. Fans and the NFL would truly know who the best and worst referee groups are.
My stance isn't necessarily that the league is fixing games in terms of wins and losses, but as i posted earlier....it's quite obvious to me that the league has an agenda via the referees to influence momentum in games to make these games more competitive, interesting to watch and dramatic when, for example, a team with a two score lead has all of the momentum and the ball with 7 min left in the game....at which point the parity police will suddenly bring out the holding calls, or most definitely throw that flag on a call that COULD GO EITHER WAY or be a NON-CALL...will certainly go to the team that needs help getting back into the game.
You can't tell me if you've watched any football at all that this practice isn't apparent to you. Forget being a Rams fan for a minute. It's not about that. I watch alot of 60 minute football games from start to finish. Now maybe if you're the casual fan watching just red zone and highlights around the league then you don't see this happening.

So far in 2018, at least one game has gone to overtime in each of the first six weeks, which is the first time that's happened in NFL history. All told there have been nine games that have gone to overtime through six weeks of the season.

But that would take the same scope of cover-up that fixing wins and losses would, and something THAT huge couldn't be hidden.
The lone ref in the NBA got outed and certainly 200 plus people being involved in what you suggest would be as well.
All it would take is ONE unhappy ref, that got demoted or fired, which DOES happen and has on a regular basis for years now, to blow the top off of this whole thing. Or just ONE honest man in the entire union.
I'm ALL for discussing how poorly the refs perform, we cold fill a message board with just that topic, but I can't find a single shred of even circumstantial anything that there is this type of conspiracy. It would have been uncovered.
