Goff talk starts around 5 min in. Robinson, FWIW is a really good NFL reporter and has broken a lot of stories. Interesting reporting on McVay/Goff and interesting take on what this means for McVay.

The whole thing is a great listen, goes into Shannahan and Jimmy G too.

That’s the best take I’ve seen yet and I have the same thoughts re; his potential concerns re; McVay. I have faith in McVay, but now my radar is up to see if his behavior continues down the “the QB is the problem, not my system” mentality.

The Raiders gave the Bengals two 1st rounders for Palmer.

.

Okay... I remember a player doing this... I was sure it was Carson Palmer, but I guess I'm wrong.

Now I gotta figure out which player it was...

Ultimately, GM and HC moves are made by the FO. Not a player. If you take a step back, a FO looks through the candidates and hires who they see fit. That's exactly how they did with Nick Caserio, and he was the one to identify a HC, which he did. It's exactly how a team should operate. But no, because people are hellbent on Deshauns feelers getting hurt he wasn't included and didn't hire Eric B., it's suddenly a circus. Not saying it isn't one, but I don't believe it's that much of a cluster. I'm just a casual fan of that team, so it's easier to see it from a different perspective.
If your boss committed to you that your input would be appreciated in the next hire, and not only are you not included, they hire someone you are opposed to, and refuse to interview another person your suggested? You had better look for a new job yourself.
This isn’t a player asking for something that is out of line. There was a commitment made and they broke it.

Well Palmer told the Bengals he wasn't playing for them anymore so he stayed at home.

They wouldn't trade him. So he was sitting at home for half the season then the Raiders, or Hue Jackson, decided they had to have him. Made the offer and the Bengals said goodbye Carson.

He doesn’t become a FA.
Even if you retire the team holds your rights, like Andrew Luck

I could be wrong, but I was pretty sure there's a mechanism.

Either way, word is that Watson's willing to sit.

I just really dislike that Houston FO.

They just that kind of pseudo-religious shitbags, they see players agency as "inmates running the asylum", have a history of racist statements, apparently and are just overall gross and cringey.

I hope he goes to Miami and Lights it up... or the Jets... Rich Eisen deserves some good days...

ANYTHING, but the 9ers!!!

I believe that if a player gets drafted by a team, they only keep his rights for a year, and if he doesn’t sign he’s eligible to be drafted again the next year. So many you’re thinking of Bo Jackson? Drafted #1 by Tampa and refused to play for them. Ended up getting drafted against by the Raiders

Just heard on Foxsports Andrew Luck is considering coming out of retirement to play for the Colts.
His body probably just needed a whole year off. He's been through the gauntlet of injuries it seems.

So in 108 pages according to some of you the front office and McVay should have provided the following additional support for Goff to succeed.

A LT who plays like Whitworth in his prime, a new center, a RT that can run AND pass block, TEs who can block AND be offensive weapons, in addition to Woods and Kupp a speed burner to take the top off the defense and lastly a RB who produces like Gurley.

So if I’m hearing correctly in order for Goff to have the proper supporting cast it sounds like the NFL needs to allow the Rams to have a salary cap of about $300 million dollars-and that’s just on the offensive side of the ball.
I won’t even guess at the number if you want to maintain the defense we have.

This is a GREAT listen, thanks so much for posting. Sounds to me like Robinson has some legit sources that are telling him inside info... has the "ring of truth" to me, anyway.

Interesting how even-handed his take is. Robinson says some incredibly critical things of Goff, yet some incredibly critical things of McVay, as well!

Fast forward to the 5:00 mark for the Rams stuff.

My quick and dirty summary of Robinson's reporting:

Criticism of Goff: He heard sources complaining that as McVay's offense was forced to evolve and Goff had huge trouble adjusting. Goff was making egregious errors that even first-year QB's shouldn't make, and this drove MCVay nuts and convinced McVay that he could not win a SB with Goff.

Criticism of McVay: Robinson wonders if he has seen this pattern before. Robinson describes that McVay was a Gruden disciple, and back in TB the mantra was ALWAYS to trust the "System", and anytime things went wrong, the instinct was to blame the QB. Could this be happening again, where McVay's instinct is that it's "always the QB's fault"?

My take: what can I say, I'm inclined to side with McVay, since with my own eyes I so often saw Goff make horrible basic mistakes. I remember thinking the same damn thing: "what the hell is he thinking with that awful decision making, he's making mistakes a rookie shouldn't even make, let alone a fifth year player."

I'm a big fan of Goff as a person and am thankful for the success the Rams have had with him. But I'm really looking forward to seeing how Stafford and McVay work together. I think Stafford is significantly more talented than any QB that MCVay has worked with before (Cousins and Goff, for example).

The pressure is squarely on McVay's shoulders now. He'll get the bulk of the credit for success, and the bulk of the blame for failure. As it should be.

EDIT: whoops, I thought Bearrisater posted this, but it was actually WestCoastRam. Here's the link again, in case anyone wants to check it out.

I don't know who that kid was, but nice job.
Blimey! Nice analysis by the Brit kid.

HOWEVER....

Just to give props to the Goff defenders...

I gotta admit that on some of Stafford's best throws... the long developing plays... Stafford had a nice clean pocket. I thought to myself, "Goff could've made some nice throws too if he had THAT long in the pocket!" Gotta admit that Goff was running for his life far too often this year.

IMHO McVay is stubborn and will do whatever it takes to give Stafford a chance to succeed. Rams will re-invest $ on the offensive side of the ball. I predict upgrades at TWO starters on the OL. Damn the cost... just put it on the "cap credit card" if necessary.... :ROFLMAO:

EDIT: Cripes, I screwed up the link again! Here's the link to the analysis from the Brit kid

Well ain’t that the biggest load of bs NO ONE has said that .. at most people have said a new centre and a deep threat don’t be so disingenuous

In fairness we got those ideas from a couple years back. And our O was averaging like 36 points a game for 2/3 of the season.

All things being equal, now that Stafford is our QB, if we think he needs another weapon in the passing game, or more protection up front, why shouldn't we say so?
