I know but it irks me that people were so against Goff that they couldn't see the majority of his problems was due to a crappy center position.

It doesn't matter what people around here think about Goff. What matters is what McVay thought about Goff. And he obviously didn't think Goff was the answer. It's that simple. You dont know what's going on behind the scenes. You dont know what McVay and Goff were talking about. If Goff was putting in the time to study and prepare well enough. Maybe he couldn't retain the information McVay was teaching him. We just dont know.

But if McVay thought the problem was the center position as you say, Goff would still be on the roster. But he's not. We got an upgrade at QB, you should be happy about that. Who cares about 1st round picks, we've missed on so many in recent years and drafted great in the mid rounds. Give me proven pro bowlers like Ramsey and Stafford all day every day.

And...I've been waiting to put this thought out there...

But what if we had to keep Sullivan and Blythe to help make the line calls? Maybe with Stafford we will get a more talented center with a lesser football IQ

Ask Kurt Warner on the 2008 cardinals.

.
I don't remember...Did Kurt's defense that year do anything well? How's that defense in Detroit doing, getting the QB extra chances at the ball?

I am just giving my opinion on the trade is all. I don't like it and I am unsure that Stafford is a true upgrade on Goff

But I have stated I will watch his games and even if I don't see an upgrade, I will still support Stafford since he is now a Ram.

It's possible. Not entirely sure about that but it is a logical supposition to make (sorry I went all Spock here)

Goff was 18 of 20 on his first 20 passes against GB and the only reason that we didn't score more points was that

1) The defense couldn't get GB off the field and they had long ass drives
2) When Goff had 3rd and long - Blythe would get blown up and Goff would be sacked.

If Goff couldn't adjust to a defense's plays then why in some games Goff played well and others he didn't.

And he did play well against Chicago Tampa Bay and even NE for some parts of the game.

I just don't agree with the he couldn't read the field statements.

He couldn't read the field well when he was being pressured up the middle by Blythe's OLE movements.

But I think we will have to agree to disagree on this and that's fine.

We have Stafford now and I guess I need to move on.

I covered that before but it might have been in another thread or with another person.

Not all defenses use disguises a lot. It adds to the complexity of the defense and creates more opportunity for blown coverages and restricts the talent pool of guys who can do that versus simpler defenses.

I was impressed by Goff's toughness.

I don't think this was about one game. This has been building for two years.

Don't take this as me pressuring you to get on the Stafford train. Relax and take all the time you need.

We'll be here.

I would think Belicheat Tampa Bay and Chicago use disguises because they are very good defenses.

But I don't know for sure.

I am getting there on Stafford - will just take awhile

If you have a line and great receivers, your offense can be damn successful. And Stafford had those things plenty often in Detroit. He wasn't doing it by himself.

I've watched the guy since he was at Georgia. He always struck me as a rich man's Cutler. All the arm talent in the world combined with too much streaky play. He's a gunslinger. He's fun to watch. But I don't trust him in the biggest moments. Regardless, none of this is relevant as to whether Stafford was doing it himself in Detroit. He wasn't. I'm still trying to convince myself on this deal. I don't know if I'll get there.
That's fine. Similarly, even the best QB in the NFL needs help since this is a team sport. I don't have to say that I hate Goff to believe Stafford can do great things here. I think Goff is physically capable of much more that he showed last year, but he doen't process information fast enough in McVay's system. Maybe Stafford can and maybe he can't, but I know Detroit is a shyte show and has been one my entire life except for a year or two (maybe). The same could be said for the Rams before McVay arrived to resurrect the franchise.

I think STafford is a better QB and you don't have to agree with that.

Belichick certainly does and did in the Super Bowl which is when this started.

There was a write up, I think it was the article I linked earlier that did verify that the issue started with Matt Patricia and Detroit... it really flummoxed Goff and the next game was when Chicago combined that strategy with the 6-1 front.

And even with all that, we still got to the Super Bowl.

With a better defense, arguably better QB and a solid run game again, I think winning the Super Bowl is within reach now.

And YES, we need to make big investments in the OL.

Personally, I would truly go all in, restructure everyone we could if it meant potentially getting both Linsley and Scherff.

Then we could focus the draft on OT, ILB and EDGE...

I got ya man. Not everyone is going to love the trade and that's understandable. Everyone had their own opinion on Goff and our offense struggles, but McVay made it clear something was wrong there. On GMFB this morning Ian Rappaort said there was a disconnect between Goff and McVay when it came to work ethic. Maybe thats what it was, or maybe they got into a bad argument about starting in the Seattle game and that caused friction. Who knows.

But dont stress over the picks, if you look at the NFL trade value chart and what we offered vs Carolina and their 8th pick...We came out ahead. Especially given Detroit took Goff's entire contract off our hands.

I have no problems going all in this year if we have to restructure everyone but we better be huge contenders for a Super Bowl during the year or it will be a bust because we will probably have some down years due to the restructuring.

I am lowering myself to Contender - I will be satisfied with that

We were contenders this year if not for a drop pass from Reynolds we could have been playing Tampa Bay

Yea I had some reservations about a rookie center, and what it could look like putting all the protection duties on Goff's shoulders.

But there are like 4 solid FA centers available, so if we want to upgrade there we should be able to with a vet.

Redzone Passer Rating (Career)
Goff - 102.7
Stafford - 90.5

Redzone TD:Int Ratio (Career)
Goff - 20.75:1
Stafford - 9.65:1

Actual question, not a statement.......How do you factor in the difference in years played for the above? Curious to see

Its also hard to look at numbers when the QB isn't solo on the field. Different teams, coaches etc etc.
