I wouldn't be surprised to see the Ram's sign a new contract with Stafford giving them cap space otherwise I don't see how this will work. When you look at Goff and Stafford, production-wise they really aren't that different. What is the difference is Stafford will do his own reads and not have Sean in his ear constantly yapping at him. That is what retarded Goff's development IMO.

The offense will run more smoothly and on the flip side, I think Goff will be better off without Sean's micromanaging him.

In the long run I really don't see this one change putting them over the top. It wasn't Goff who lost that 2019 season and it wasn't Goff who allowed GB to run all over the defense. That's a whole lot of misplaced blame. Put me in the camp that says, this is a huge gamble by Snead to win now and if they don't they will be starting all over again in a few years.

This is not what you do if you want to build a so called dynasty. This is basically a 3 year roll of the dice by Snead.

To which part of my post are you referring? The Brad Holmes part of the part about McSnead's job security should this trade end up as a failure?

And instead of the fucking snide remarks you keep dropping in response to my posts lately, why don't you try debating on the merits for a change?
I don't think a debate is what you're looking for. What you're looking for is someone to blame.

Yeah I was reading a different post and saw your sarcastic post about stafford right after. That's my bad.
Its all good. I am not a fan I was not a fan of Stafford, but he's our QB now, so he's my guy. I dont like this trade because it doesnt solve any of the immediate issues we have and now have to depend on a contract extension to give us some relief. Extensions are why we are in such terrible cap space. Rams are my team, I'll never root for them to fail

I will admit to probably overreacting at first. I still don’t love what we gave up but getting out of the contract is a huge plus. I’ve always been a Stafford fan. Although he does throw a lot of picks. That said, always team first. I sure hope this works out. I hope we can figure out how to rework some things and address the line and improve overall. Time to rally around Matty. Wish Goff all the luck and success in the world. He’s a good dude.

I hear ya man. I'm with you. It's not my fave but admittedly I haven't been a Goff fan in a while. And then the one dude talking about "cursing" the Rams for eternity or whatever got under my skin. Glad we worked that out.

This just gets worse the more I think about it.

Reality check: Stafford will be THIRTY FIVE by the time we're done paying for this trade. There are like, 4 QB's in the entire league that are good at that age.

It would be one thing if the Rams said they were getting rid of Goff and 2 1sts for Ryan Ramczyk or Terron Armstead, even Tunsil, and they felt they had faith in John Wolford, I'd say the team overpaid and is taking a risk, but OK.

But Matthew F'ing Stafford?!

Snead built up a lot of leeway and credibility for how shrewd he was assembling a one-year wonder team with all those short term deals (Suh, Fowler, etc. etc. etc.), but this makes it official: He's not only blown every shred of that leeway he had, it's time to recognize him for the bad GM that he is.

Is stafford playing for free? Doesn't his salary count?

.

His salary counts, but ZERO of Goff's salary counts.

The Lions took our Dead Cap hit.

That's gonna take time for folks to absorb...

Edit: Appears I am wrong, the relief doesn't come until next year, so we have some cap work to do...

If anyone wants to feel better about the trade, here's the most upvoted comment on a new post on the 49ers reddit page:

"Honestly this is unbelievable. To let him go to a division rival. We can’t even throw the entirety of the fucking field with Jimmy. We have the worst quarterback in the division. Playing scared and being prudent cost us the SB and when he’s hurt again next year it’s going to be the same shit. I love Kyle and John, but we arent getting better at the most important position while other teams are and it’s honestly disheartening a bit."

It's a great situation for us honestly. Look I wanted Watson too, but we cant be mad at upgrading with Stafford.

I dont think people understand how bad Detroit would've been recently if they didnt have Stafford. They would be looked at like the Jets and the Jaguars. Stafford has a ton of respect around the league because of his talent. And ultimately that's what McVay wanted. A talent upgrade at QB.

Just imagine pairing a top 3 arm talent with McVay, in our scheme, with way more weapons than he had in Det. It's only going to result is a positive result :fistbump:.

Dan Orlovsky loves it for those reasons. For whatever that's worth...

It's about the reaction I would've had if they got him, haha.

Next?
Blythe and Notebloom bashing? Well I mean Blythe is already gone, but Notebloom? Or was he the better one and Bobby Evans was the lesser?

Giving up a first and a third to get rid of a QB who is winning is an unspeakably dumb decision, unless you replace him with a QB who wins a Super Bowl. They went all in on Stafford to win a Super Bowl. If he doesn't do that in the next two or three years, this deal was a failure of epic proportions. And god help this franchise if Goff actually plays well in Detroit (which doesn't look likely with all their WRs being free agents, but you never know).
What if Goff doesn't shit the bed against Miami, the Jets, San Francisco at least once? 13-3 and 1st round bye? AD ans Kupp doesn't get hurt in a wild card game? The team isn't beat up from that game...all of a sudden no team looms large on the horizon...

Inconsistent play is the mark of someone who doesn't prepare correctly.

Does Goff have talent? Undoubtedly.

Does Goff put in what it takes to see that talent truly realized?

No.

Stafford is everything Goff is not.
