I don't agree with you, and I don't think Matt Stafford is going to win a Super Bowl. That's why I have ardently opposed this deal since people started floating it.

The key word is you don't' THINK...

Like myself you and I thought Jared Goff was going to be a star QB in this league.

We were both wrong.

You could be way wrong on your opinion of the 33 year old Stafford manning the ship for the Rams next season.

Be open minded. We haven't even seen him take one snap in McVay's 2021 offense yet..

Sosa K is ignoring the huge o-line issues they had in 2019 where Jared was sacked or hit before his receivers got 10 yds. Frankly it's a dumb comparison. This year, McVay went to a dink and dunk offense and didn't take as many shots downfield. When you compare Stafford and Goff in 2020 there isn't a huge difference.

IMO the clear difference is simply in Stafford's experience and because of it his ability to make his own reads and audibles. Why wasn't Goff better at it? Sorry guys but that's on McVay and his so called QB coach.

This didnt give the Rams cap relief this year. And I dont understand why there is such a big deal about Detroit picking up the guarantees, that's what happens when you trade for a player. You inherit the contract, just not the signing bonus/restructure money.
On a side note, who is paying Stafford's 10 mill roster bonus this year?

Yes it did. The Lions took ALL of Goff's contract including the guarantees.

The Rams have ZERO dead cap money due to Goff now.

Normally, teams don't do this. The Texans did this with Osweiler and the Rams did this with Goff...

Do you think maybe the low attendance at home games drove the team to find a new face for the franchise?

Sorry... too soon?

I don't see that happening, my friend. I was in the middle of drafting one up when this trade happened, and I deleted it. Don't know if I'm going to get past this decision. Guess we'll see.

Only way it happens is if the Rams restructure Stafford's deal. And the only way that happens is if the Rams give Stafford guaranteed money to restructure his deal.

Goff cap hit is ZERO.

Lions took his guarantees. That's what that means.

Already shows updated on spotrac.com...

I'm sorry but color me unimpressed
Statistics without context are meaningless.

Since winning in the NFL is a TEAM venture, name 1 great team that Stafford was on.

You can't.

Are his stats even better if he was on a McVay/Shannahan/Bellichek/Gruden/Sean Peyton/Andy Reed led team?

You bet your beautiful ass they are.

If anyone wants to feel better about the trade, here's the most upvoted comment on a new post on the 49ers reddit page:

"Honestly this is unbelievable. To let him go to a division rival. We can’t even throw the entirety of the fucking field with Jimmy. We have the worst quarterback in the division. Playing scared and being prudent cost us the SB and when he’s hurt again next year it’s going to be the same shit. I love Kyle and John, but we arent getting better at the most important position while other teams are and it’s honestly disheartening a bit."

LOL. Well then, maybe it's not all bad.

I just don't understand how this got to this point. So were 2017 and '18 all about Gurley? Was Goff's success in this offense a mirage?

He's won the second-most games in the last 4 seasons of any quarterback who isn't the GOAT and is just two seasons removed from a Conference title and SB appearance.

W...T...F happened?

Once you cool off, you should be fine.
I don't like the trade at all either, but it doesn't mean we are doomed for the next ten years.
Stafford is a solid QB, that still has some tread left.
Its not out of the realm of possibility, that he plays for another 5 years or more.
Hell. We've seen QBs actually improve after 30.

We still have a solid D.
We still have a capable QB, with a few decent peices around him.
..and if you are right about Corbett, we should have an improved oline.

Sure hope they dont end up with Watson

Think what it will take for that too happen. If the Niners land Watson it will cost more than what Stafford just did. Plus they have no viable QB to trade, for Houston to fall back on. The Niners will have to bid against teams with better future draft picks, consider it was more so the injuries that did the Niners in and its not likely they miss the playoffs otherwise.

Everything I've read was that Shanahan wanted Stafford. Shefty just said on ESPN that McVay has been studying Stafford for a few weeks and he is the QB that he really wanted and feels that Stafford will allow them to do more to open up the offense than Goff did.

So, if true then McVay felt that Stafford was the best fit, which likely means that Shanahan did too since they run the same offense.

No they didnt. They are picking up the future guarantees

Yes they did. Spotrac is updated (they getting hammered right now, for obvious reasons). Includes the Goff trade and Stafford's salary.
