None of us will ever know the true why, so I'm going to believe that Goff just wasn't putting in the work and when the turnovers started, McVay got on him and he didn't respond well.

Has to be something more than just his play.

Look at the arm strength, look at the pocket movement, look at the accuracy. Look at him extending plays and making big time throws off schedule. Look at how he's able to change his arm angle and throw from different platforms. This game he had no Golladay, no Swift, and an injured throwing hand. He's a fucking stud.

Look at the vision.

Goff was not a guy to throw unless they were open then.

Not about to become open.

This may be the fastest I have gone through the five stages of grief.

Everyone can speculate until the end of time and cool - if that’s how they want to spend their time. Fact of the matter is the dude is gone, wish him the best but he isn’t a Ram anymore and I won’t dwell on him anymore. McVay and Snead said “thanks for your service, your future paychecks will be coming from the lions. You’re welcome for that contract one way or another.”

Why would he be pissed?
Because he had to pay very large up front bonus's to all these guys that aren't here any more. Goff's contract could have just expired this year and he would be walking with no big cash and no dead cap money.

Matthew Stafford is a massive upgrade over Goff. One of the dumbest things I’ve seen last week was Ram fans actually thinking Goff and Stafford were the same. No they are not. Stafford is accurate with a cannon. Goff is lanky and awkward and actually not very accurate.

Stafford also has played on a comically abysmal organization for years. Now he gets a shot on a real team with a real coach.

you can cry about draft picks. But stafford was always going to fetch a first and another pick. Goff deal prob cost us another first.

So be it. We finally have a QB.

Get over it @jrry32

It was more than I expected but it was what was needed to be done. Jared Goff is gone and so are 3 big draft capitol picks.

2021 1st and 3rd rounders and our 2022 1st round pick. It was more than I expected for Stafford's value but I can deal with it and you need to deal with it as well.

McVay and Snead believe they can win the SB next year with Stafford and I'm on board with them.

I wish you luck, my friend. I won't be rooting against this franchise, but I am just not sure I can get on board with this. It's entertainment. And I've suffered through a lot of bad football with this team. Watching them do the exact thing (well, an even worse version of that thing, actually) that I wanted them not to do has me reconsidering whether it's worth continuing.

If the rams dont get to the championship game at least in 2021. This trade is a failure.
If Stafford misses more than 1 game in 4 years. This trade is a failure.
If we dont finish above 500 in each of the next 4 seasons. This trade is a failure.
If we lose to the fucking cardinals even once. This trade is a failure.
If the offense isnt back to 2017/2018 form this trade is a failure.
If the rams for the 3rd season in a row neglect the oline. This trade is a failure.
If goff somehow someway leads the lions to the playoffs and we miss it. This trade is a failure.
Obviously I think the trade was a failure of epic proportions but we'll see. But I lost all faith in mcsnead.

I keep seeing this mentioned - but there is no 2021 cap relief. We pay less to Goff in 2021, but now add in Stafford and we’re actually paying more in 2021 to our starting QB combined. 2022 starts the net relief.

I dunno that.

As more details come out, there may be cap relief this year.

That seems to be part of the deal. I'll wait until we see the deets because the allusions are that we are getting cap relief.

What bums me out is that they gave up six picks, including an extra first to move up and draft Goff and then five years later have to trade away more picks, including another first, just to get someone to take him.

I wish Les thought ahead a little bit more. He's just too myopic for my taste.

Yea I agree 3 first rounders in the trade for Goff + the contract is painful. Just horrible in hindsight. But if Goff is no longer what you want at QB you have two options:

1) you sit in limbo with a QB you no longer want just because you gave him a bad contract. Waste the primes of AD, Ramsey, etc...
2) you rip off the band-aid, be aggressive and go get someone you want

We have an aggressive coach and GM so not surprised we took the second route.

Ask him how he feels about his franchise being valued as the fourth most valuable in the league and having a consistent winner under McVay and Snead. He’s a business man and in business you don’t hit on 100% of your investments. Shit happens, you reassess your position and you move on. Stafford, Snead and McVay are going to make Kroenke a ton of money.

Imagine the realization for Goff of having to move from his great California home/life, to Detroit. I wonder what his girlfriend will think of it. Plus Goff’s never been the best cold weather QB and now he finds himself in the NFC North playing in Chicago and Green Bay.

Maybe they Lions will try to flip Goff to the Niners or someone else.

I doubt it. I think the scouting coach the Lions picked up from us probably has a good idea about how Goff slots into that offense. I'm actually not worried about Goff. I think he'll elevate the receivers there and Anthony Lynns much less technical offense will probably be good for him.

I'm worried about us. I'm worried about interior pressure disrupting our play calls. I'm a little worried about installing McVay's somewhat complicated scheme on a QB who is used to playing a certain way. I'm worried about all our coaching departures. It's a lot of turnover to handle.
