I wish you luck, my friend. I won't be rooting against this franchise, but I am just not sure I can get on board with this. It's entertainment. And I've suffered through a lot of bad football with this team. Watching them do the exact thing (well, an even worse version of that thing, actually) that I wanted them not to do has me reconsidering whether it's worth continuing.

I feel you, brother, I do.

At the very least, let's find out the details of this contract.

If we end up being able to get that OL upgrade and deep threat while not losing our entire defense... this may be a net gain.

NO ONE was more in the Watson corner than me, so you know where I'm at.

That said, if the Texans were serious about going nuclear and we really do get serious cap relief, then this may work out (and some of the picks are about taking guarantees... sort of an Osweiler deal)

So for the record on this I didn't think it was worth doing because Stafford and Goff are pretty close. Felt like it was trading for the same guy almost in terms of production/upside. But what this demonstrates is that the Rams think Goff is not going to get back to the "Good Goff" we all love.

It also insinuates he had very little value on the market. Which means his struggles and McVay giving up on him are in combo enough for teams to be leery. Yeah I think that is accurate.

Want to wish Jared Goff well here too. You're a young guy with your career ahead of you go prove everyone wrong.

Ask him how he feels about his franchise being valued as the fourth most valuable in the league and having a consistent winner under McVay and Snead. He’s a business man and in business you don’t hit on 100% of your investments. Shit happens, you reassess your position and you move on. Stafford, Snead and McVay are going to make Kroenke a ton of money.
They never had to give Goff that contract, he could have just walked this year, no draft picks, no huge signing bonus and no dead cap.

The Rams MUST win the NFC West and play in the NFCCG next year, or I think McVay will be in serious trouble (and of course Snead)

.

The worst news is possibly still coming for Jared. There's no way his girlfriend is moving to Detroit. He could be going there all alone. Talk about a shit sandwich.

Detroit is paying the entire contract that's huge in essence with the cap savings the trade would become what we gave up for Stafford and a free agent we are now able to sign. So say we sign shreff or a center so that makes the trade look a lot better. The taking of the entire contract is huge for the present and the future.

Matthew Stafford is a massive upgrade over Goff. One of the dumbest things I’ve seen last week was Ram fans actually thinking Goff and Stafford were the same. No they are not. Stafford is accurate with a cannon. Goff is lanky and awkward and actually not very accurate.

Stafford also has played on a comically abysmal organization for years. Now he gets a shot on a real team with a real coach.

you can cry about draft picks. But stafford was always going to fetch a first and another pick. Goff deal prob cost us another first.

So be it. We finally have a QB.
I wouldn’t say Goff is awkward he just has a long “wind up” sort of delivery.
Stafford, in my humble opinion, is a better QB at this point.
Not by a large margin and it is mostly finding open guys and he has a faster release.

Oh just one more thing. May the Rams never win another division or championship or Super Bowl for the rest of their days. May McVay get a beer belly and a bald spot, and may Goff and the Lions win the Super Bowl in Sofi while McVay and Snead have to watch

I’m not going to applaud our FO for being able to trade a bad contract (using future picks) when it was the same exact FO who is responsible for give said bad contract to said player. Am I crazy or what?!?
You’re not crazy. In hindsight the contract was bad and unnecessary but they felt Goff was the future based on his body of work up until that point. It was a bad investment and the same front office did what they felt was best to move on from that mistake. I can appreciate them recognizing that a mistake was made, deciding that it was best to take the hit now and move on. You don’t need to applaud the move but you have to respect it.

I am on page 12 of this thread, and, admittedly, this is not what I was expecting. However, I thought I might interject some hope here. I haven't really been following Stafford much over the years. My brother, three years my junior and as big a Horns fan as I am, has. He is adamant that Stafford is superior to Jared. Says he is more decisive when deciding to run and has 38 comeback wins over his career. Stafford will be coming to the best team he ever had when joining the U.S.S. Horns. I will have to do some online digging, but perhaps McSnead aren't as dumb as posters are feeling right now.

Dear Matt,
Eat your Wheaties, get as healthy as you can and sign that extension ASAP.
Oh and make sure you dont miss a game due to injury because if you do, and your back up gives Coach Mc a woody, you'll be in the dog house and sent packing shortly thereafter!
Cheers

Sincerely,
Todd and Jared

I think it depends what the over all plan is.
Is it a year of taking FA losses and waiting for cap relief?

Idk I felt like I wanted Watson more than anyone. I'm legitimately crushed we're not getting him, Ramsey had me believing it was going down, sigh...

Stafford is a better QB than Goff, more than enough stats to back that up...They obviously think Stafford is THE GUY and if he can give us a SB and atleast 5 solid years...i couldnt give less of a shit about about what we gave up as long as we win...

In McVay I trust...

The fact that McVay and Shanahan Jr were tripping over each other to go get this guy should tell you something...

You’re absolutely right, they didn’t need to give him that contract. I commented on another poster about the decision and how it didn’t make sense in hindsight. But it is what it is now and they’re moving on. This deal wouldn’t happen without Kroenke signing off on it so I’m sure he isn’t too upset about it.
