So you can win Super Bowls that way?

Seems that teams that win SBs need a balanced roster.

Having top heavy rosters with high priced players AND no first round picks, is not a great method to win.

The Pats have not drafted well, but they also didn't overpay players. They spread their costs out throughout the roster and not on 4 guys.

Now I think you can have a top heavy roster...if you draft eventual replacements. Tough to do that with no high picks to do so. They now have to be perfect in rounds 2-4 to keep this going.

It's tougher to do without HIGH 1st round picks. But, not impossible. And even if they had kept their 1st rounders they wouldn't have been HIGH 1st round picks. I've been a draftnik for years and the players selected at the bottom of the 1st round typically have similar grades to players selected in the high to mid 2nd round. In some drafts even the lower portion of round two.

And they don't have to be perfect. Just good at talent acquisition in rounds 2-7, undrafted free agency, free agency, and trades. Besides, this team already has one of the youngest rosters in the NFL.

BTW, the Pats also obtained vet players willing to come in on cheaper than market deals in an efforts to get a ring, too.

On some drafts in the past I’ve read GMs say they only had 15 players with first round grades. iirc One year Snead said he only had 10 players with first round grades.

Ok, it seems there is a growing consensus for this trade to be a home run hinges on us upgrading the C position. What do you believe is the best way to do it? What FA do you have your eye on? Anybody on the roster capable of stepping up? Who is the guy in the draft that may be able to do it?

The Rams' "window" has been open since the start of 2017 with no signs of closing even before this trade was made. Check the calendar. It's 2021.

Media heads and armchair fans around the league are having a really hard time wrapping their heads around this. The Rams have a system in place where there once was none for so long. Finally. Owner, front office, GM, scouting dept, HC, asst coaches. This team is loaded with young talent despite no 1st rd picks since 2016.

The wheels don't fall off when shit goes wrong or bad luck happens or when mistakes are made. Four straight winning seasons and playoff wins. It's glorious.

A stat just saw on Greeny this morning.

in the 3 Detroit playoff losses in the past 12 years... Detroit defense gave up 31.7ppg.

that's crazy
Detroit’s defense is why they have been so bad during Stafford’s career. One team had a top 5 D next closest 15.

Wow, I can say I'm surprised.

I remember him going to QB camp in 2017 and 2018. Did he quit going?

Some signs were there this year, the mobility, the football IQ, the not taking chances.

We thought it valiant that he promised he'd be better at the end of 2016 and kept that one for 2+ years.
But some of his "I have to be better" stuff this year became empty. Though he did finish it up with a decent effort vs GB. There's more to this story that we'll hear down the road. Rams could be looking even smarter dealing for Stafford.

Hmm idk not sure I buy all of that. I mean the guy who just traded for him would obviously be aware of this. I doubt he would tie his fate as a gm to someone like that as his first move. But who knows...
Just playing devils advocate his career is not tied to the guy he got 2 firsts and a third with. They’re rebuilding it matters much more what they do with those picks

I guess but I just don’t buy all of that personally. If it’s true I would wonder to myself how they didn’t see any of this coming before signing him to that massive extension. Just seems like an unnecessary shot at the guy but maybe things really did get that bad between the two sides.

Damn! Big time if true.. and it's what some of us have been suspicious of.
Count me in as one of the suspicious. I have been suspicious of the
work ethic for a while now. It's the only thing I could think would cause
him to go from a pro bowl player to playing as poorly as he has the last
couple of years. It started with a Mcvay comment after the miami game
about a lack of preparation.

Unless you believe that draft picks are crapshoots. ;)
