Even if that player takes up a significant percentage of the cap and forces you to cut or let other significant contributers leave via FA... Then have limited resources to fill those gaping holes?
I think they will keep Whitworth and Havenstein is an excellent run blocker.Whitworth, Havenstein and Brockers being released or traded would clear almost half of their CAP deficit. Noteboom proved he can play LT at this level. Edwards is out of position as a OG his build and feet are OT not OG. Edwards would be an upgrade to swinging door Havenstein.

I'm sorry but Whitworth's age is showing. He can play but he's no longer the elite LT he used to be. Rob's play always has been spotty but when he's targeted he's dead meat. Blythe simply lacks mobility and sand to pass block. Shelton plays with a mean aggression and is far better blocking on the second level than Blythe. Evans has the prototypical build and feet of an OG. He lacks the feet and length to play OT in the NFL.
IMO that is the o-line they projected when they drafted Noteboom and Edwards and Evans. Time to play them and see if Snead was right. I feel that if played in those positions this could be a very good power gap blocking o-line making McVay's play-action passes even more effective.
Aikman repeatedly claimed that because of Goff McVay was always trying to be too perfect.
Here is a possibility of fans reading less into things than what is really happening. Many of us made the deduction that McVay began using roll outs to get Goff away from the interior pass rush. If you recall the Niners did the same thing with Kaepernick. But the reason. Was to simplify the offense by giving him only half the field to read. What is that was part of the reason McVay did it with Goff. I recall after ne loss McVay saying to the press that our quarterback has to see the field better, or he’s not seeing the field well.Goff did have open receivers that were not thrown to often this season.
Then we here that McVay is excited to get Stafford and it means he can really open the playbook. So Goff apparently was limiting the playbook, not just the Oline play like many thought. So if McVay adds plays will he really be adding them or will he just be using more of what he wished he could have with Goff?
Then there is the other issue of Goff not being able to adjust well when defenses would change to a different look before the snap, which is another thing Goff struggled with and Stafford is supposedly good at....improvising.

The Rams beat writer Jourdan Rodrigue pointed out that very thing in her podcast.

Thanks. Is that an Athletic podcast or the other one she does?
So you can win Super Bowls that way?Yes. If the player obtained is a quality QB, CB, Pass rusher, or LT. Or maybe even an All-Pro at another position.
Most others can be replaced and/or the salary cap can be massaged to keep who they really need.
But we're just conspiracy theorist.Sounds like what a lot of forum members were speculating in recent months
So I bit the bullet and purchased a pff subscription bc why the fuck not...and according to them the lions had a stud at LT and a stud at C. Which kinda makes sense with film I watch on Stafford where he steps up in the pocket well. Point being...we need to upgrade the C position
