Stafford adjusts to pressure better, has a stronger and more accurate arm, makes more off schedule plays, does not lock onto his primary target, and sees the entire field. Goff was only looking for close, shorter throws. McVay even said in one post game press conference that our QB needs to see the field better. If you watched much of the All22 you can see receivers coming open for the Rams and never getting a look from Goff all season.

I also know that many of us considered rollouts as a way to mask the offensive line woes. They are also used to give QBs less field to have to scan. They were about McVay trying to simplify things for Goff.

I think what you're saying here is what McVay believes as well. I've trusted McVay from the start, he knows a whole lot more than I do, so I'm hopeful that this works out.

It's just tough when you've spent the last 5 years cheering for Goff. Defending him from the naysayers. Seeing some of his great throws and great games and pointing to them as reasons that he's the franchise QB we all hoped he'd be. Watching that 2018 team where he helped that offense to such a high level of play. Even with his lesser play these last two years, there were good moments here and there. And I sometimes found myself blaming the lesser o-line, or lack of a deep threat for some of his struggles.

It's the attachment to these players that makes it tough. Now I also defended Tavon Austin for years and years, so I'm aware that my judgement can get clouded by my biases...

Tom Brady is 43. It's a passing league now so the QB's (and WR's) are taking less damage. Stafford could play another decade.
Possible.
Pointing to one or two guys that have been able to do that confirms it is not likely.
But, 5-6 years is certainly very possible.

Maybe the whole thing is payback for the Rams not holding up to their end of the bargain and winning the SB.
The Dodgers said if you don't do your part like the Lakers and us, bring Stafford here so his lifelong buddy Kershaw can watch him play without entering the covid seespool we call the airport

What I mean is, what did they think they had with Goff that they were comfortable giving him that contract? It must've been attributes that he already possessed.

Don't know what they saw regarding the player. But, my guess is they saw where QB contracts were going and didn't like it. Goff's contract is cheap now in comparison what guys are asking for today on their 2nd contracts.

What happened to McVay's much vaunted offense over the last two years? Did McVay get figured out? Was it not putting enough capital into the offensive line? Was it Goff's failure to execute adjustments?

We are going to get an answer.

D. All of the above.

Stafford will make McVay look smarter and our OL better.

That doesn't take away from those being issues tho.

Dude I been all over this for the last two months and as far back as last year when mentioned a hypothetical "would you guys do a Watson for Goff + trade" but this is a lot. Even if they hated Goff he is a throw in? 2 firsts? And a 3rd? That's a lot. I'm ok with Stafford but not at that price. Even if Detroit flipped Goff now for 2 seconds they stacked. His contract is decent for the acquiring team.

As a human being the kid won't deal with this to well he a Cali kid luckily he will be in a dome but it's a business and he still has not voiced an opinion good or bad.

We gave up a lot if Stafford 3 years younger I'd be very ok with it but he ain't.

Yeah I too called this trade before the final seattle game of the regular season. Writing was on the wall, now you say we gave up a lot aquire an aging qb. Well we had no choice. No one was going to take on that stupid contract, plus goff's regression and now his hand injury. So the Rams really had no choice. Plus stafford is only 32 years old. QBs are playing into their late 30s to early 40s.
I'm not saying this is the best trade in the world but if we find ourselves in the playoffs again and stafford having a good to great year next year, you'll see how fast this turns from a terrible trade to a good one. Just saying giving up a couple first round picks for a good qb isn't that much. Time will tell tho

I think the issue is that we have a window in which to win another SB given the potency of our Defense (on account of AD and JR being in their prime years). And Stafford gives us a better chance to do that than Goff does. Plain and simple.

We still need a Center tho!!! ;)
I gave you a cheers because without a center, Stafford will be even crappier than Goff with all the sacks he is going to take

I'm telling you guys Goff wasn't putting in the work. You can see it in his game. I'm not saying he's distracted but he's clearly not the same guy he was in mcvays first and second year.
Right when teams figured out mcvay was telling Goff what defense he was looking at before the 15 second mark. Teams changed and made Goff make that call. Obviously he wasn't cutting his play showed me all I needed to see the last two years. You guys might hate the trade but the Rams obviously felt that goff wasn't gonna cut it. And for once I agree w them

I"ve been a supporter of McSnead, but wasn't this happening BEFORE they signed him to an extension? If so, it makes the decision to extend him unexcusable.

Oh I have never said Goff would be a Brady Manning or Brees but I have stated that he could be in the tier just under them

I agree, he's a tier under. And with a Gurley in his prime that's enough. But without a Girley in his prime, gotta go ELITE tier to win a SB.

Stafford has had a history of fumbles throughout his career. He also has thrown his share of INTs as well with 10 last year (averages 12/yr). So if people think that part of the equation has improved I would say probably not. What has improved is the Rams now have a QB that can make his own reads and who won't tolerate Sean in his ear constantly between plays.

What I'm hoping for is more consistency in the flow of the offense. Stafford will have the best offensive personnel in his career. Just like McVay, he also will have no excuses.

It's also just the reality of the QB position. The Eagles had to extend their guy too before the jury was out. It is what it is. We got lucky that the timing of our bad contract worked out with Detroit's good contract.
