This will be a great test to see if McVay is the offensive genius that many (including himself) think he is. He identified Goff as the weak link of this offense and made an aggressive move to get Stafford.

It's not the exact same, but it does remind me of when they traded Peters, and then traded for Ramsey while giving up 2 1sts. That's worked out well so far. They went from a good cb who made his share of mental mistakes, to an elite cb.

This one was harder to understand at first because many of us have grown attached to Goff. I know I had him and Stafford as similar-level QBs. Hopefully McVay is correct here. I understand his frustrations with Goff; we all watched the struggles against SF and Miami this year for example. And maybe getting out a Detroit will lead to Stafford putting up career best numbers.
Maybe but I just don't see it. Stafford is getting older and I think his stats are just going to go down each year.

I don't believe he has the talent of a Brees Brady and even Rivers to age well.

And with a broken back to boot - just NO

Well it does matter. Bringing back a 40 year old left tackle because we don't have his successor in place. Once again, the Rams have no long term answer at the QB position. Now, though, they have no first round picks the next three drafts. That compromises their ability to add depth and talent to their roster, one that might hold up if the injury bug bites us.
Jason Smith comes to mind. He coulda been the guy, right?

My guess is that the thinking was that Goff would continue to improve. He didn't.

What I mean is, what did they think they had with Goff that they were comfortable giving him that contract? It must've been attributes that he already possessed.

Maybe, that they went as far as they could with him...It's tough especially when you have to pay a Quarterback, I guess they felt Goff would improve and the last two years, it just has not happened.
Yeah but I am on Jrrys team when I think Goff still was on a learning curve and next year was when he would break out as a very good QB.

I have settled down. I am more upset that another Rams fan bet me a meal that Stafford would be the Rams QB. I called total BS, now I an anger hangover and a meal to buy.

Not me, with Holmes & Agnew now in the Motor City, the starts seemed aligned. I don't go to the office as much anymore, one or two days a week at best, but a collogue of mine is a Lion fan and when we ran into each other, I told him don't be shocked if Stafford is a Ram....His text last night was epic.

Giving up a first and a third to get rid of a QB who is winning is an unspeakably dumb decision, unless you replace him with a QB who wins a Super Bowl. They went all in on Stafford to win a Super Bowl. If he doesn't do that in the next two or three years, this deal was a failure of epic proportions. And god help this franchise if Goff actually plays well in Detroit (which doesn't look likely with all their WRs being free agents, but you never know).

I think the issue is that we have a window in which to win another SB given the potency of our Defense (on account of AD and JR being in their prime years). And Stafford gives us a better chance to do that than Goff does. Plain and simple.

We still need a Center tho!!! ;)

Stafford adjusts to pressure better, has a stronger and more accurate arm, makes more off schedule plays, does not lock onto his primary target, and sees the entire field. Goff was only looking for close, shorter throws. McVay even said in one post game press conference that our QB needs to see the field better. If you watched much of the All22 you can see receivers coming open for the Rams and never getting a look from Goff all season.

I also know that many of us considered rollouts as a way to mask the offensive line woes. They are also used to give QBs less field to have to scan. They were about McVay trying to simplify things for Goff.

What happened to McVay's much vaunted offense over the last two years? Did McVay get figured out? Was it not putting enough capital into the offensive line? Was it Goff's failure to execute adjustments?

We are going to get an answer.

Perhaps, maybe the Rams should have waited another year and worked on improving the Offensive Line, but now we have to hope for the best.

And gets sacked much more often with an as good as or even better OL than the Rams had.

I just don't see it.

What's funny is you defending an infantile and just plain dumb moniker.

There's an infinite number of ways to display displeasure with this trade.

Calling him Stat Padford?

yeah, that may be one of the dumbest...

But if the mods are okay with it...feel free.

some folks are content to remain silent...and others...

Actually I've gotten plenty of laughts from that play on words when I've talked to people - not saying its the funniest thing in history, but hey it's decent.

This is what i mean by fake outrage. I think Stafford is better than Goff - you are reading waaay too much into a joke.

People calling goff names out of frustration is different - they were actually angry. It was a different context.

buts its fine - never really had any intention of calling him that all the time , or poking at people.

Otherwise id have been donig it it every post.

so really a non-issue.

I will agree with that - I just hope I can get over this

I can see myself taking shots at Stafford every time he gets sacked. I don't see the better mobility part.

It had nothing to do with replacing Saffold and Sully with two rookies and a castaway at RG, right? Not to mention Gurley and Cooks being shadows of themselves?

I hope I'm wrong. But I don't think this move will do much, other than get Goff off our books for 2022. Stafford will be a FA, too. And we won't have a first until 2024. Good lord.
HOLY SHIT!!!! LOL

GOODBYE GOFF YOU OVERRATED SELF ENTITLED OVERPAID JACK ASS!!

Good, maybe we can do something in the playoffs now. I honestly thought we’d target Deshaun and didn’t expect Stafford with his age but hey I’ll take it!

GOFF HAD 38, thats 38 TURNOVERS THE LAST 2 SEASONS!! Absolute trash!

Guy didn’t even look past 15 yards down the field in the Pack game... smfh

Maybe you can learn which direction the sun rises in Detroit and how good you had it here!

On to a real QB named Matthew Stafford! Hell of a pick up, it’s time to win this division and pick up some Lombardis!

oh and Snead, a little heavy on the picks but I’m sure the dumb ass skins raised the price on us...

For those of you picking the corn out of Goff’s shit and eating it like it’s Cornnuts

Thankfully I quit Twitter over a month ago. Over social media.
I tell you all this because I would likely have been banned from Twitter after the news broke about the trade.

I have settled down. I am more upset that another Rams fan bet me a meal that Stafford would be the Rams QB. I called total BS, now I an anger hangover and a meal to buy.
I got banned by twitter about a year ago and banned on several Reddit forums as well.
You’re not missing anything.
